It was fun to see the more serious version. Like!

parts of me thought it was pretty good. parts of me thought James Van Deer Beek really needed to get attention and thought this would be a fun vehicle. I applaud them for referencing stuff that happened after mighty morphin. parts of me also think they watched Mortal Kombat Rebirth and took that concept and ran.
on the flipside...if they were going for a serious tone for a PR film we want good acting and RPM, and Timeforce run circles around this. Dino Charge and Jungle Fury actually may even comparably run circles around the acting here. At least in terms of stuff that isn't ADR in those series. But oh well. For a free youtube short it wasn't terrible. I also don't feel it was super offensive. If anything something like this just promotes the brand and explores what all they could do in a movieuniverse with all of the giant mythos they have.

It was well made and acted. I thought the twist int he end was fun. The "Zack" fight with the Korean General was extremely well done. I enjoyed it but I would not want this as a Power Rangers film or as a direction the franchise should ever go.
The drug stuff was the only thing I took real umbrage with (even in the confines of this one short) because that's a line that should never be crossed in Power Rangers. The ultra violence was fun to see (but again not something I want in an actual Power Rangers film). BUt I did like the storyline. The Rangers in a world where they had failed and what becomes of them. THe Trini funeral thing was touching for two reasons 1) all the Rangers died so having issue with Trini's death is a bit odd considering the in universe death of everybody else and 2) it was ( I think) a nod to the original actor who left us way too soon. RIP Thuy Trang. All in all, it was what it was. ANd I believe this to be a parody of Hollywood more than one of Power Rangers. And now I'll never look at Goldar the same again. Thank you Goldar; for teaching us about love... again. |

Watching the film again, I feel like I get more disgusted each time. Sure it had incredible effects and some nice directing but it's just, to spend so much time and money to create a hyper violent version of power rangers feels like such wasted potential.
I do like some of the ideas of focusing on child soldiers but what annoys me is that it only stuck as an idea for a brief moment. People have been toting this as what PR should be if it was made for mature audiences but what is mature about it? It's just guns, hyper violence and sex and a weak ass story that has a twist worthy of recent M.Night, this reeks of a sad teenager's efforts to make something cool and edgy. Even if it was intended as a parody, it has done a shit job of it because apparently for a lot of people unless they've read the interview they could hardly tell it was one.

“Saban is trying to shut ‘Power/Rangers’ down,” “Detention” director Joseph Kahn tweeted on Tuesday. “If you’d like to keep watching, tell them to stop harassing me.”

"It is just as if I drew a pic of Power Rangers on a napkin and I gave it to my friend.” That's absolutely hilarious
![]() Taking a known property for children and making a hyper violent, raunchy, supposed parody of it is not the same as drawing like fanart or something. There are plenty of people who'll watch this video casually, assume it actually is a new take on power rangers, and then take a blanket response against the franchise because of it's content. I think Saban has every right to request it's removal, it's harming their brand.

Saban taking this down is a good idea. It does not matter if it's MMPR, it's still Power Rangers. Power Rangers is still popular with kids these days and they know about MMPR thanks to Netflix, Super Megaforce and the MMPR toys that are seen at Toys R Us, and Target. |
