Dominion Tank Police - I rewatch this anime for the first time in the last 19 something years. I first remember seeing Dominion Tank Police a very long time ago when I was at least 6 years old on TV late night at my Grandma's house. I remember seeing the first act on TV and the action really blew me away. Dominion Tank Police is based on a manga from Masamune Shirow, who also created Ghost in The Shell and Appleseed. Ghost in the Shell and Appleseed are still very relevant today while Dominion Tank Police has fade away into obscurity over the years. So how well does it hold up? Dominion Tank Police holds very well and is a great anime to watch.
The action is very over the top and enjoyable. Not a single boring moment in this anime and this anime has four acts (each episode around 35 minutes). The humor is one of the best parts of Dominion Tank Police because the show is very cheesy and over the top. The first two acts of full of slapstick, great jokes and funny characters moments. All of the humor made me laugh from start to finish. None of it felt force and dry. The last two acts of the anime go for a more serious tone in the story, but there is a lot of comedy too. The last two acts really did a great job on mixing drama and comedy into one. The last two acts really give us great character development on Leona and our main villain "Buaku". Leona Ozaki is a great female character with a great personality and her character keeps on getting better as time goes on. Leona Ozaki was able to show that she is more than just a girl working with the police force and she is just as smart and tough as the men working at Tank Police. She also has a mother-like affection for her tank and other people who live in New Port City. All of the other characters in Dominion Tank Police are great and very memorable. Jim E. Lovelock is the scientific expert and tank commander is a pretty likeable character. My favorite character in the anime is Charles Brenten, the Tank Police squad leader. Charles Brenten has the awesome macho type of personally to his character. He is like Sleepy from Mad Bull 34 if Sleepy was way less violent and not as popular with the ladies. The most famous characters in Dominion Tank Police are AnnaPuma and UniPuma aka the Cat Girls. While they are not my favorite characters in the anime, they are pretty fun characters to watch. I will admit that I didn't care for Al Cu Ad Solte because his character felt rather flat. His character felt he could have been written much better. Everyone else in the anime is awesome. What also makes Dominion Tank Police so great is that the themes in the story are very relevant today. Dominion Tank Police deals with the issues of police militarization and brutality which is currently a big issue going on in the world today in this decade. Just listen to the opening during the debate between the chief of police and the mayor of the city about the role of police during the start of the first act. You also have people wearing oxygen masks in New Port City due to high levels of pollution which is a similar issue going on in China. This anime was really ahead of its time for being made in 1988. The anime also has great music and solid animation. The character designs are very colorful and nicely detail. They really do fit well with the gray-blue, smog-covered tone of the city in my opinion. All of the tank designs in the anime look really awesome and are totally watch to see on-screen. The English dub is from Manga UK, who is famous for really bad English dubs like for Angel Cop and the first two Devilman OVA's. However I feel like this is Manga UK's best dub because the voices fit well with the characters and the overall goofy tone of the anime. However there are a few things I dislike about Dominion Tank Police. I felt like the ending was not that great and it felt underwhelming. The whole ending didn't feel like it clear up the central plotline really well. Also I feel like that the second and third arc went on for a bit too long. I forgot to mention that this anime has fan service, but there is very little of it and it's done right. It does not over shadow the plot and character unlike most anime now like High School of the Dead and Bikini Warriors. Overall Dominion Tank Police is an excellent anime with funny humor, great characters, awesome action and a great social commentary on both police militarization and unethical scientific experiments. I highly recommend to watch this anime if you like comedy anime, old school anime or an action anime that doesn't take itself too seriously. If you watch this anime and hope to be dark, gritty and serious like Mamoru Oshii's anime adaptation of Ghost in the Shell, you will likely be disappointed. Dominion Tank Police is still awesome even nearly 30 years. Grade: B+

Here is the anime that I watch in the last two weeks I competed:
My Hero Academia - I have read the first three volumes of the manga and this anime was one of the most hype up anime of the Spring season. So I finish watching the anime last night. I enjoy it, but I feel like it could have been better. Izuku Midoriya is a pretty enjoyable main character and I like All Might a lot. All Might is my favorite character in the show. However I feel like the other character felt lacking and they could have better character development. Izuku's classmates could have written much better in my opinion. Some of them are cool (like Asui Tsui, Tenya Iida and Eraser Head) while I didn't care for the others that much (Ochako Uraraka is the typical nice girl and most likely has a crush on the main character) There are superheroes that show up and barely again (Like Mount Lady). Katasuki is my least favorite character in the show. He is just another rival character that is an unlikable asshole that wants to be better than everyone else and does not want Izuku to surpass him. The Animation was pretty good and the score was great. I do feel like there was too many flashbacks and felt like that they were added there to fill up the run time of the episode. Overall, My Hero Academia is a fun show with an interesting premise. The show does suffer from typical Shonen clichés, but I still had a great time watching it. I do plan on buying it on Blu-Ray and I will watch season two. I also plan on continuing reading the manga as well. Grade: B This is how I would rank the recent superhero anime TV shows: Tiger & Bunny>One Punch Man>My Hero Academia. Hyper Doll: I remember in the late 90's, Sam Goody had this anime on display when it was coming out on VHS. As a kid, it always look rather cool and I always wanted to check it out. Took me 17 years later to watch it by watching both episodes on Youtube. Not bad for a two episode OVA series, I had fun watching it. The anime felt a Dirty Pair parody and the anime had some very funny moments in it. I admit that the writing could have been better because the first episode didn't do a good job on introducing the main characters to us. I still find the main characters enjoyable and I wish this anime had more episodes. The animation was pretty good and I like the music in the anime. Overall, I enjoy it and it is not as bad as Bennett the Sage said it is. Not great or terrible, but an enjoyable short series. Grade: C Campus Special Investigator Hikaruon: I always wanted to check out this anime because it's a tribute to the Space Sheriffs Metal Hero series. This anime was alright and I feel like it could have been better. I didn't like any of the characters and our main character was pretty dull. Not much happens until the last 10 or 15 episodes of the anime. The final battle was pretty cool and that's about it. The animation and music are pretty good too. I give it credit for being the closet thing to being a Metal Heroes anime. Fans of Space Sheriffs or VR Troopers may enjoy it. Overall, I felt rather let down by this anime (I was not expecting high art, but at least something more fun and less boring to watch). Grade: C- Judge: This anime was promotes fairly often on The Sci Fi Channel's Saturday Anime block late at night in the late 90's. I always wanted to check out for years and I finally got my chance too. This anime was awful and I would put it on my Top 10 worst anime list (If I have one. I have a Top 5 worst list though). This anime sucked away 50 minutes of my life that I will never get back. The story was so confusing and I had no idea what was going on. I could not tell who was the good guys or the bad guys? Everything was incredibly boring to watch. None of the characters are interesting and you won't remember them when this anime is over. The Judge of Darkness was cool, but his character felt like he was hardly there. The animation is pretty bad and looked bad even in 1991. The color choices are ugly are look to at and I felt like some animation frames where missing in several scenes of the anime. The dub is pretty bad, but you can easily laugh at it for being so terrible. Overall, Judge is an awful anime. I can only recommended this anime if you want to watch for a bad anime night with friends for laughs. Otherwise skip it! Grade: E-

Watched the first 7 episodes of Parasyte so far today. Definitely an enjoyable series so far, I just was expecting something a bit more...horror-esque. It seems more like a drama with lots of gore and some shonen-esque fights. I also can't help but feel like Tokyo Ghoul was heavily inspired by Parasyte, since they have SUCH similar premises.

Parasyte came out in 1988 in Japan, so it's possible. Parasyte seems like it could be inspire by John Carpenter's The Thing seeing that both deal with aliens that can morph and change with a host that they take over.

3x3 Eyes - I watch all four episodes last week and never seen the show expect for the first two episodes a while back. I thought it was a well done show with some flaws. I wish the supporting cast would have been better seeing that Yakumo's friends feel like that they are hardly there. I did love the character bond with Yakumo and Pai because I felt like they did a great job with those two. I love the journey that the characters go through the story and I really cared what happen between them. The villains are cool and the action scenes are awesome. I love the dark and gritty feel that the anime is going for. Funny how this anime is from Toei, who normally makes anime for kids. Since the anime is is from Toei, there are some bad animation errors here and there. Overall, 3x3 Eyes is a cool anime to watch. I also feel like Ajin: Demi-Human was heavily inspired by 3x3 Eyes because I notice several similarities between the two. While the anime is not perfect, I really enjoy it. Grade: B
I will be watching 3x3 Eyes: Legend of the Divine Demon soon. Meanwhile I try to watch Pupa and give up after 5 episodes. It started off so bad it's good then it got pretty boring. Also the incest stuff was kinda gross even for someone like me (Who sit through all three uncut episodes of Violence Jack and the Urotsukidouji series). Incest is not my cup of tea and I was like "I think I know where this series is going. I'm done!". Pupa is like if Genocyber and Tokyo Ghoul had a very ugly baby. Not the worst anime that I've seen, but still pretty bad. I would give Puppa like a E (Which is a 4/10 for me).

Anime I finish this week:
3x3 Eyes: Seima Densetsu (3×3 Eyes: Legend of the Divine Demon) - It was good to see what happen after episode 4 of the last OVA series. While the animation was good, I really wish they didn't make each episode be 45 minutes long. The pacing felt rather slow at times and the ending did suck. The anime leaves yet another cliffhanger seeing that the manga was still being published during the 1990's. I feel like that they should have created their own ending for the anime instead creating another cliffhanger. The character relationship between Yakumo and Pai is great always. I love these two character and seeing them together is always great in my opinion. Seeing that the anime ended 14 years ago in 2002, they can easily make a new 3x3 Eyes anime now that covers the compete story. Overall, I like the first four episodes of 3x3 Eyes better but it was still decent. Grade: B- Space Patrol Luluco - I only seen Inferno Cop and Kill la Kill from Trigger, so I didn't know much about the show going in. The anime is very funny with a good cast of characters. I feel like I would like the show more if each episode was 20-30 minutes each. I didn't like the 6 minute run time that the show had. The short run time that both Inferno Cop and Luluco had reminds me of the short run time that Adult Swim shows have. Besides the short run time, I did had a lot of fun watching the show. The animation is great with a great use of colors and the humor is pretty solid. I also like the crossover episodes from Trigger's other anime series. I didn't love it as most people did, but I still enjoy it. Grade: B Psycho Diver: Soul Siren - I always wanted to check out this anime for a long time seeing that it was only released on VHS and never on DVD. This anime is enjoyable to watch but could have been better. The anime is from Mad House and old school Mad House always made my favorite type of animation. Animation that is very dark and gritty looking. The animation style in this anime reminds me a lot of Wicked City and Ninja Scroll which is awesome in my opinion. The animation is great and really capture the mood that this anime was going for. Dark, violent and gritty. The story is pretty interesting with the idea of a person that can enter the mind of other people. This anime came out before The Cell, Paprika and Inception. However Psycho Diver does suffer from having weak character development and there are things in the story that didn't much sense. However the action was pretty good and all the action scenes are well animated. The ending did left things open and suffers from what most old OVA's had by trying to kick off a series (See Black Lion, Cybernetic Guardian, Kimera and Ayane's High Kick). Overall Psycho Diver is a fun anime to watch. Not great or terrible, just an enjoyable anime with a cool premise and good action scenes. If you want to watch a fun anime to pass off time, give it a watch. Grade: B-
