I saw The Girl Who Leapt Through Time for the first time yesterday and I thought it was great. I would love to see it again for the second time, but this time dubbed.

Wicked City - With Halloween close by, I decided to re-watch Wicked City seeing that I haven't seen it in years since I was in High School. Wicked City is one of my favorite anime films and I still think it's a fantastic movie from start to finish. While the movie does have flaws, I think the movie really has great action, suspense, characters and awesome world building.
I thought the main characters are well done and I really love the duo between Makie and Taki. Renzaburo Taki is also a really cool character and Gregory Snegoff did a great job on voicing him in the Streamline dub of the film. I like the anime better in sub, but the Streamline dub for Wicked City is pretty good. Giuseppi Mayart is also very funny and is one of my favorite characters in the film. I admit that the villains could have been better, but I still enjoy them. The story of a hidden demon world from the human world and having a organization designed to protect the relations of both worlds in secret is very well done in my opinion. Yoshiaki Kawajiri is one of my favorite anime directors of all time next to Satoshi Kon. What I love about Wicked City is the world in the movie and how interesting the story is. Nothing in this anime feels boring at all and the anime does a great job on mixing suspense, atmosphere and action into one. The anime has gore, but there is not much gore compare to Ninja Scroll, Berserk, Urotsukidoji: Legend of the Overfiend or Higurashi When They Cry. Yoshiaki Kawajiri knew how to not over shadow the plot and characters without adding too much blood and gore. The graphic horror and pulse-pounding action really makes Wicked City feel like no other film of its time. The animation in this movie is fantastic and holds up pretty well after nearly 30 years later. The animation really captures the dark mood and spooky atmosphere. The anime also has great monster designs and the other characters also look great too. Also the movie can have humor as well and the humor is pretty funny. Yeah this movie has sex and nudity, but I didn't care. Having sex and nudity does not make something bad if it does not over shadow the plot. The movie still had a lot of great action and suspense to make up the sex scenes. Wicked City is like a mixture between Blade Runner, Evil Dead and John Carpenter's The Thing which is why this movie is so awesome. Overall, Wicked City is just an awesome movie. It has a great blend of action, horror, and drama. If you like horror anime or demonic anime like Devilman, I suggest to check out Wicked City. This anime is NSFW, so view it at your own risk. Grade: A

Yeah, I liked Wicked City a lot. The live action was pretty batty, too. I don't know if I'd say it was good but, you should see it if you haven't.
I'm watching Blassreiter, Yuki Yuna is a Hero (with my girl - a few scenes have made me "parent cringe" but, it's okay depending on the kid!) and just about to start Tentai Senshi Sunred.

I remember hearing about the live action film of Wicked City. Probably check it out one day. I did catch up with Tiger Mask W and this show is a lot of fun. I highly suggest for people that like over the top and fun anime to watch Tiger Mask W. It may come off stupid and silly at times, but I think that's the point of the anime so far.

Well I'm finally back to Haruhi, just a bit further than a third into the second season.
I always knew people were just exaggerating, but damn, Endless Eight is so good. Who knew four episodes of literally the same thing could manage to not bore me as much as this has. I expect that to continue for the remaining four episodes. I've fallen pretty behind on my seasonal shows. Haven't even started WIXOSS or Applimonsters. And a good chunk of the shows I'm watching are no good. Which is unfortunate. I can only hope that they pick up eventually. Especially ClassicaLoid cause that shit is gonna run two cours. But as far as the actually good goes, Watashi Motete Dousunda is just fantastic. Like, I'd heard of the manga before, and I thought it was gonna be a really trashy show, based on premise. But honestly, it's really good, for what I was expecting, and like, overall. It's still kinda trashy, but it's also about 100 times funner than it has any right to be. It's great. I have way too much fun while watching it, which is a good thing. The only other show I'm watching that is actually good is 3-gatsu no Lion, though I'm still not super on-board with the artstyle. I've only seen one episode of Occultic;Nine, but it seemed interesting, tatas aside. Other that those I'm watching Nanbaka and Nobunaga no Shinobi, which are both pretty boring. The latter less so than the former since at least that's only like 4 minutes. I want to like Nanbaka but it's just not entertaining. There are some parts of it I like (mostly the Warden) but I'm just not feeling it. But at least these are only one cour, unlike ClassicaLoids. Which honestly. Snore. So much snore. |

I watched 13 episodes of Soul Eater last night. Yep, it's a lot to take in. Since it's going off Netflix in a few weeks, I might as well watch the show now lol.
There's a lot of things I like about this show. For one, I like the squash and stretch nature of the artstyle. Lord Death to me is a perfect example of this. I also like how the show can easily transition from comedy to action without necessarily messing up the flow of a scene. I've never seen a show that can do something like that before. Maybe it's because I watch serious shows, but I've never seen any physical comedy in a show with serious plot and characters work out this well. Rider hasn't done it and anything else I've seen that I can remember does it. I also love how each pairing of a weapon and meister has it be male and female. I like this idea a lot, it promotes platonic relationships that aren't "lame" or "uncool" as seen by some parts of society (at least western ones). It also, to me, makes the soul resonance move even more cool, as characters have to get past being different genders in order to resonante. I was worried at first after the introduction episodes that some of the characters were going to not really change all that much throughout the series (mainly Blackstar and Death the Kid). Blackstar had a great episode of development with Tsubaki, and had some great moments in the Excalibur episode too. Blackstar's voice is annoying, but he's 13 and I think he's a straight up parody of Naruto so of course he's going to be over the top. Also, Tsubaki is best girl. She's compromising, elegant and seems like an older figure to Blackstar. Death the kid's gimmick of breaking down when things aren't symmetrical is annoying, and hopefully he becomes more of an actual character in later episodes. He's the most powerful of the weapon and Meister groups, as stated by the show, but I guess they had to give him this annoying gimmick to make sure he doesn't just come in and destroy literally every villain. Maka to me is probably the most interesting character to me at the moment after finishing episode 13. She's very strong willed, and I like that, but she's got her own issues too. In episode 1, she has issues form her dad cheating all the time. That episode was the only time it really caused any sort of relationship strain on anyone else besides her father, but I'd love to learn more about it. That kind of shit is really demoralizing for young women and it sucks, but she doesn't completely hate men entirely. Just when it's a very deep betrayal to her trust. Some nitpicks I have about the show are minor, but I feel like are important. Mainly it has to do with how characters of certain genders are treated exclusively. What do I mean by that? Something I observed is that only the male characters of the weapon/meister groups are not able to compose themselves to fight effectively. Blackstar and Soul being idiots in that episode when they're fighting Death the Kid, Death the kid's symmetry problem, Blackstar not being focused and yelling shit all the time. All of the characters have some flaws ( except Liz and Patty as far as I'm aware ath the moment), but the women (mainly Maka and Tsubaki) all have emotional/physcological ones that hold them back in some way. I just find it weird how in a show that has platonic relationships as one of it's main concepts with the way battles work and that the men and women are put into more stereotypical boxes. Something else was that when the characters are in their weapon forms and show their faces, like the Oprhenochs in Faiz, only the women are naked. The men (Soul and Deathsycthe) are shown wearing clothes. Weird dichotomy there. |

What I finish watching this week.
Demon Prince Enma - I just finish watching this anime just in time for Halloween. While I never read the Dororon Enma-kun manga or seen the other Enma-Kun anime (There was the newer anime from a few years ago), I do love stuff from Go Nagai. I thought this anime was great from start to finish. I love the characters and the writing. Every episode had me on the edge on my seat and not a single episode was boring. I love all the personalities that the characters have. The Kapa was probably my favorite character in the show for being so funny. The supporting cast may be weak, but they all handle the parts well. The plot may seem simple with the idea of group of people exterminating demons to keep the town at peace, but there is way more to the anime when you really watch it without spoiling much. The animation was great expect for the CG. The CG looks like it was made in 1997 and this anime came out in 2006. I also hate how this anime is only four episodes when I feel like that this anime should be a 26 TV episode series. I also admit that episode 3 could have been better since it did felt a bit rush. Overall, I highly recommended this anime for Horror anime fans, Go Nagai fans or anyone that likes stuff with people exterminating monsters. Grade: B+ Appleseed (2004) - I haven't seen this anime since I was in High School like 10 years ago. I had to watch it for a homework project for my 3D Modeling & Animation class. The 2004 Appleseed movie is pretty good, but I felt like it could have been better. The 3D animation is solid for a movie from 12 years ago and I remember how this movie was a pretty big deal back then. I like Deunan Knute and she is a great main character, but I felt like her development with Braireos was pretty weak. We could have been given more details about their lives and backgrounds. I also feel like the supporting cast was pretty weak too and I didn't think the villains are that great. The plot twist was poorly done and the ending was pretty much sucked. However the fight sequences are great and the soundtrack kicks ass. Overall, Appleseed 2004 is a pretty good movie but could have been so much better. I hope the other two movies are better and I will probably re-watch the 1988 OVA film to compare the two later. Grade: B- Since it's Halloween, here are 13 horror anime for people to watch Halloween if they want any suggestions. The list is in no particular order (I'm going with the ones that I've seen): - Hellsing Ultimate - Boogiepop Phantom - Parasyte - Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust (80's film is good but I think the second movie is better in my opinion) - Perfect Blue - Devilman OVA's (Devilman: The Birth and Devilman: The Demon Bird) - Ghost Stories (It may not be scary but the dub is great to watch) - Demon Prince Enma - Mononoke (I remember this anime features some really good Yokai stories) - Pet Shop of Horrors - Ajin: Demi-Human - Blood: The Last Vampire (It may not be a great anime but it gets bonus points for taking place on Halloween) - Higurashi: When They Cry - Bio Hunter (Every Halloween party needs a fun trashy movie ![]()

Yeah, Hellsing is one of those anime series that I like to watch better in English because of the setting and voices. The Japanese voices are great too, but I feel like Hellsing is one of those series that works better in English in my opinion. Same goes with Afro Samurai, Cowboy Bebop, Black Lagoon, Gunsmith Cats, Trigun and Baccano seeing that they all have a Western theme setting.
