Another Sentai-esque show I know of is Gotta Be The Twintail. It's a 'so bad it's good' from what I remember

Those are good choices. For Anime for Toku superhero fans to check out there is also Bubblegum Crisis, Detonator Orgun, Tekkaman Blade, Apocalypse Zero (Warning this anime is NSFW. View it at your own risk), Samurai Flamenco, Devilman (The 1972 TV series is more closer to Toku henshin heroes though), Astro Fighter Sunred and 8 Man.

Fuck man, I've been curious about the show. Could you do a quick run down on the show's strengths? I want to know if I'll enjoy it

The characters do grow on you and show maturity over time. The show is 49 episodes, so the show does have a bit of a slow start, but it does get better. The show was dub by Saban back in the mid 1990's, so I recommended to watch it subbed (Saban's dubs on anime are pretty awful expect for a few titles). There is also a OVA sequel known as "Tekkaman Blade II". I recommended to give the show a try.

The show is a great one with some really good animation (not perfect, but good), an interesting story, some kick ass fight scenes, and some things happen in the second half of the show you didn't see coming.

There is also Zetman if you want another Toku henshin type of hero anime. However I do recommended the manga more over the anime since the anime barely cover most of the story with 13 episodes from what I can remember. The anime is still good, but not as great as I wanted it to be.

Tekkaman Blade is a reboot of Tekkaman: The Space Knight from the early 1990's. The anime focuses on a guy named Takaya Aiba and has the power to transform into a Tekkaman, one of the deadliest fighting forces in the universe. The plot is your Hero vs. Alien Invaders plot, but the story is still pretty well done.
