Well look at some of the more popular Sentai shows over the last few years.

GaoRanger - Red, Black, Blue, Yellow, Pink, Silver
AbaRanger - Red, Blue, Yellow, Black, White
DekaRanger - Red, Blue, Green, Yellow, Pink, Black, White, Silver, Orange
MagiRanger - Red, Green, Yellow, Blue, Pink, White, Gold, Red
Shinkenger - Red, Blue, Green, Yellow, Pink, Gold

Now look at some of the lackluster showings.

Goseiger - Red, Black, Blue, Yellow, Pink, White
Gokaiger - Red, Blue, Green, Yellow, Pink, Silver
Go-Buster - Red, Blue, Yellow, Gold, Silver

My assumption would end up being this:

Red - always
Blue - always
Black - Green was in Gokaiger, which while fun, wasn't a super huge hit
Yellow - always
Pink - just seems to work better

Have a core of 5 and then add 2 to 3 extras.

Green (Zyuranger homage), White (AbaRanger homage), and then probably some armored "Extra Hero" like Ninjaman or Signalman.

Just my thoughts.

Well the Gokaigers certainly thought he was silver when they did the all silver Gokai Change and ive always thought of him as silver as well.
