lol I can't believe they're not known to be real in some places! I Pay Pass EVERYTHING!
They're just as secure as a PIN or signature really, you should cancel a card if its stolen/lost no matter what, so I don't really see any reason for concern. At Supermarkets and stuff, at least in Australia, a PIN or signature is still required for payments over $100 for double security. That said, I work part time at a Supermarket while studying and if I had a dollar for every customer to freak out about how unsafe they were and blah blah, I'd be the richest man in the galaxy. Still, its not like Swiping and Inserting aren't still options. Last edited by Starscream Gaga; 03-14-2014 at 10:34 AM.. |

I don't think we have those in the UK.

Its very slowly being implemented here. A couple of places take it, and debit card chips have started being produced that are compatible. It's still a long way off being commonplace though.

As secure as RFID? Whenever I stop in Wawa in the mornings I always tap to pay. Many credit cards have it built in now.

Pay Pass is pretty common here, and it's the standard way to pay using a card. Just tap it and it automatically goes through, no PIN number, no signature. Of course, that brings up a security issue, and I think for more expensive purchases you need a signature.
I prefer being traditional with PINs and signatures, but working at a cashier I can see most people prefer to Pay Pass everything since it saves a lot of time.

I live in a subarb and the local transit system does it a bit different. You load money onto a card like a re-loadable visa and the amount is deducted from whatever amount you have on the card.
A subway stations downtown uses the system too but not all of them has it yet. The transit system also issues out monthly passes you can buy that gives unlimited rides so long as you have the pass handy. |
