OO 3 - It really does feel like they've mixed up the Power Rangers formula a lot, and in a good way. Having the Rangers travelling to different places looking for artefacts/jewels is a really cool theme for the show, and I love how one artefact lead to another in a unified quest. It's just a shame that in these three episodes, we've yet to truly see a mad scramble, despite everyone aiming for the same thing.
Seeing the heroes save as well as fight is welcome, I love how they are like superhero versions of Indiana Jones. And that isn't to say the fighting is bad, the Boukenger people really outdid themselves with those fight scenes, so epic and stylish and everyone comes across like a total badarse. Perhaps most impressive though is the zords which are used in really great ways, that really makes them feel more than just toys and a dude in a cardboard box. Sadly though, a lot of this weeks episode felt forced and unnecessary, why would Hartford go to lengths to pick the perfect candidates, but then not also pick the ultimate team as well? It seems like a bizarre oversight to not even think to or test their compatibility or teamwork and to just send them out on a field mission and hope for the best. I think we were supposed to be annoyed at Will this episode, but I was more annoyed that Ronny would NEVER SHUT UP, she shouted inane pieces of dialogue that means nothing, barely taking a breath through her entire morphed appearance. Also what the fuck are they scanning? 86 is a high reading? A high reading of what? 86? It says Precious, the fuck is that? Is no one gonna bring this up? Or explain this? And I mean, what was it? Exploding mirage egg with a scroll inside? Why does that get a high reading? GAAAAAAAH.

Ah okay. I wonder how that fits here, since they are on a quest for the crown jewels (arf) but I guess only so much can be helped, if the Sentai they are adapting is bad in the first place.

OO 4. I was just happy Mira was evil, because for a second there I thought they were serious about that romance, and I guess that says everything. I did like that the villains were independent, rather than it just being one villain sending one monster at a time, it makes everything feel bigger and more epic, as does the serialised storytelling and quest based nature of the show. And Spencer more than makes up for the weak links in the core Rangers (aka Dax).

OO 5. Spencer is one of my new favourite characters, his impression may have been vaguely racist but Goddamn was it hilarious. I'm still not really seeing the problem with this show, though? So far it has been a great blend of superheroics, toku violence and adventure. I think it's a really refreshing take on Power Rangers while still sticking to basics.
Plus Mack's showdowns with Moltor are damn satisfying. I love how he and Flurious can be an active part of the series, and yet also bring the 'oh shit' factor. You don't find many toku villains who can do both. The only real issue is I can never quite gauge the scale of their battle, whole fight scenes will depict at length the Rangers saving a single person, while only a scene later the scale is blown up to the point that the national guard have to be called in to regulate the chaos. I mean I love the bigger sense of scale, but everything on screen feels like only a piece of a much larger picture we don't get to see. Plus, the sentai integration this episode was really, really bad. Noticeable disconnect between the Rangers and their morphed personalities, mirroring shots so it looks like something it clearly isn't, awkward storytelling to try and bend the footage to their story and failing and some of the most broken dialogue I've heard. But none of this is anything new for Power Rangers, and it's done no worse here than anywhere else.

I finally got around to watching the Clash of the Red Rangers episode and it was kind of meh. It started out strong, but not having the RPM red demorph, not showing the other rangers in the other world, or even having the rest of the RPM rangers really ruined it. Oh yeah, and the fact that they left two Nightlochs alive that are never destroyed in the series itself was pretty lame.

Episode 6 of OO - to give credit, where credit is due, Rose is probably one of the best pinks ever. Pink is normally the most tacked on member of the team, 'the girl', so it's nice that Rose is intelligent and actually provides something for the team, other than a skirt. Also, as far as things go, the Zord stuff in this show is GREAT.
Everything else though...was abysmal. The acting was atrocious, the special effects were atrocious, all the humour fell flat, Power Rangers shouldn't sympathise with pirates or try and save a ghost from...being crushed? Why does a pirate ghost even have one of the jewels anyway? They shaved a ghosts beard? They just left him rather than laying him to rest? Dax only makes an off hand joke about his former relationship with Miratrix, despite that arc only happening a few episodes ago and completely undermines a FANTASTIC character moment between him and Spencer which angers me to no end and most importantly, it's funny just how tacked on all the Power Rangers stuff in this Power Rangers show feels.

OO 7 stumbled pretty epically at times, with stupid logic leaps and turning Ronnie into an absolute bitch for the sake of a character arc but overall, it was a really good episode.
The action scenes are great, the Defender Vest is like a cool combo between Andros, Swat Mode and the Green Ranger, I love how OO puts an emphasis on the suits, treating them more like Iron Man's mech armour, than just a costume like other series have. I loved the reference to Mystic Force. The mech stuff continues to be in a class of its own, even if the individual zords themselves are kinda craptastic. And hell yeah, calling out the bullshit of the Red getting every power up and new Zord ever. Plus the chemistry between the team remains fantastic, and Spencer should be a requirement in all Power Rangers seasons.
