A series needs something to keep viewers coming back. And things like interesting suits and mecha wear thin after so many episodes.

I'll say though, I actually don't think Go-busters has enough flash and flare. It does well in the design department, but the (in-suit, not mecha) fights were very boring, at least in the beginning. They were so practical with no outrageous finishers, impossible choreographed moves and fancy wire fu. I never felt a drive to watch their in-suit fights, which wasn't a good thing for Super Sentai.

I have to wonder how Go-Busters insistence to not advertise the latest toy is affecting things merchandise-wise.

While Gokaiger's power spam got old as far as watching the show went, it was obvious they did it because it was the latest toy and it needed selling. With Go-Busters, the combinations are barely used (Go-Buster King has been used twice since LiOh showed up and the first time it was for about 30 seconds) and the focus is squarely on the mecha that have been around the longest. It works better from a story POV I guess, but its the extreme opposite to what Gokaiger was doing rather than trying to strike a balance.

From what I've heard, part of that is due to Go-Buster Ace being a really, really popular toy. It was a surprise success so the show keeps using it.
