I feel ya, I love the negotiation in the main SMT games, but it just doesn't work in Persona with me.

So as a guy who's never played a Persona game in hi's life would you guys recommend Persona Q?
That game catches my interest.

Persona Q is it's own thing while still canon in the Persona Universe. So in terms of story you'll be experiencing whats going in Q only, the down side is that since you haven't played 3 or 4 you might not get all the reference/jokes/or even the conversations that is going on between the two different casts. Persona Q was made for all the hardcore P3 and P4 fans too. But they do set up where you kinda know the background of each character... but that's very, very, very little and barely a pinch of who the characters are if you haven't play P3 or P4.

In terms of Gameplay Persona Q is also unique in this area, it's different from P4 and P3, aside from that it's a dungeon/puzzle 1st persion crawler game where as P4 and P3 had you in third person and always let you see your party when roaming around or in battle.

They set up the the basics of Persona/Fusing Persona for you so that's barely changed.

Social links are gone which was a big thing in Persona games it's basically how you level up your Persona to get stronger, but that's not in Q at all.

So in terms of Story yea I think you can jump into it, but I don't think you would be fully experiencing/enjoying everything if you don't at least play to the point where P3 and P4 starts Q.

Persona Q is canon where that some where in the middle of both P3 and P4 stories both cast of their games meet up in Q.

In terms of gameplay you can dive right in with out having to play P3 and P4 since Q dungeon system and battle system is different from P3 and P4.
