Where S.P.D. stands is still up in the air!
When S.P.D. was originally released in 2005, the idea behind them is that they have been in existence for years, but apparently not everyone knows about them during their heyday! Eventually, by the 2020s, Earth is open to Extraterrestrials and everyone knows about S.P.D.! Even in Tokusatsu, Dekaranger and Gavan and Patranger do NOT serve the same police agencies! |

I guess PR is moving to the company that owns the name Skyfire.

Even if it's bad, doesn't mean it can't be repaired later. And what it does mean is that now there is toy access to the material in the franchise. That should be celebrated. Forget the show, think of the toy access now. Like even if they did Drive at some point, that'd literally mean now there is access to Drive toys for Hasbro under Power Rangers. Same is true for Jiraiya. Now there is access to do figures from there. Whether you look at the figures as Power Rangers or finally having a figure of other Toku heroes is up to the consumer. Though to be fair, I'm more enjoying the "Brax" name nod than anything else. We now officially have a space ghost character name in the franchise. That's rather kind of funny. I was agitated over how weirdly adapted Bouken was during Disney era, still had some good material, but the villains were completely messed up from what they should have done. Still made some great toys though. So sometimes you do have to ignore the show, and enjoy the material that comes from it being added to the franchise under a new moniker. It can always have more material added later to course correct or append, or otherwise make it better. It's a suit. Which means the person under it can change too. Like Jiraiya being used now, doesn't mean we won't see a better use later down the line now that the suit access is there. Same as if they used Drive, doesn't mean better enhancements of it later couldn't be done. Though I do gotta admit now I kind of do want a Drive adaptation tied into Ninja Steel as some kind of apprentice lower officer under Phantom Ranger. And always remember, this is a kid's show. The best we can hope for sometimes is a good toy line which we the consumer can decide if it represents the original or the PR remake. Sometimes the show you have to ignore. It happens. But now that it's in the lore, it can always be used in the comics to expand it too. Now we have excuses for all kinds of material from the comics using this character as a cameo or appearance and more too. We really should celebrate the additions and use. not bemoan it. Sheriff Sky likely isn't S.P.D. tied. That's effectively an alternate universe now since the future SPD showed isn't canon to any show except for original through lost galaxy, dino thunder, and maybe operation overdrive. (Like Tokuknight pointed out, even over in Toku the agencies/worlds are different because of the continuity issues.) They really goofed by not making SPD far enough in the future. So it's a continuity mess causer as the franchise reaches shows that take place in 2020. It's what effectively caused a need for a multiverse. Because it depicting an earth that has been mixed populace with other alien species, while neat, has effectively made it harder for any shows after Overdrive to tie into that timeline except for maybe whatever the Kyu Footage one does. Sounds like this is a mix of the Jiraiya episode and Shurikenger episode. Could be a good place to expand on Aquitar too and what became of them or what other forces Ninjor set in motion before Super Megaforce. But the main take away from this? Hasbro can do Jiraiya in Lightning collection figure style. How is that not exciting? Hasbro can now do Jiraiya in Lightning collection, or any other scale figure line they make. We actively have the potential for not only a Legends compatible Jiraiya, but also a modern era style GI Joe one. Seriously, how is that not something worth celebrating and getting excited over? That's huge. Last edited by Librarian; 09-04-2018 at 06:32 PM.. |

I get the vibe that they are gonna tie this in to the Gobuster/Gavan team up and have the metal heroes just be a part of Power ranger canon.
