I know that. Never said that they were. Only that watching one on top of the other might be repetitive since they have the same costumes, meka, monsters, etc.

FWIW, I am watching Gokaiger already. I have a while to go to get caught up on that as well as finish Boukenger so I have time to decide. By that time it might have been long enough of a break to watch Gekiranger.

Having finished up Metalder and catching up on Transformers Prime, I've decided to start trying out some of the older Sentai shows next. I watched a video review of the MMPR season 2 Zords a couple weeks back and that inspired me to start with DaiRanger. I've had a spotty record of trying to watch Sentai (prior to Gokaiger), but I've heard a lot of good things about this one and am determined to give it a good, concerted effort. I'm hoping to pull it off, but we'll have to see if I can stick with it (TVN's subs aren't helping, as they're hands down the kisama-tachiest subs I've ever seen from them). Only two episodes in so far, but I'm kinda digging it so far, although I do find the characters pretty flat so far.

You have started at the right time, as after 8 years, Nihon finally only has 3 episodes to go. Okay, that isn't totally fair, because they did decide to wait for the actual DVDs to come out before they did more, so it has only taken them 2 years to get to this point.

As for their translation, it is because Nihon wants to make it as accurate as possible. Yeah, it is distracting at times, but that is just how DaiRanger is. I watched the show raw probably about 17 times in the last 9 years, so it is nice getting to finally see it subbed, as it is nice to know everything that is happening (although, after the fourth or fifth viewing, I really do not need subs to tell me what is going on, but it is nice. Although, I will go back to the raws after this).

We agree with you that we do need to keep the bashing down. But I don't see what Dr. Kain said as that in this case. He's simply stating a preference and rather briefly so. As a matter of fact I believe he's saying that he enjoys Nihon's subs. He even attests to their accurate subs. And stating that a group took several years to finish a sub isn't bashing, it's just being factual. We do our best to keep people from starting up a fansub war and this is not the start of one.

Okay, yeah, good point. I found the sub more accessible after the first couple episodes anyway.

I'm up to episode four now and really starting to get into the show. Daigo is already shaping up to be my favorite character. Also, puppets with guns, you guys. Puppets with guns.

I wasn't bashing them, at least, that was not my intention.

Switchblade, Daigo is an awesome character who will get a great subplot storyline going for him in episode 9.

I think he was talking to me. "Kisama-tachi" is a pejorative hurled at TVN by its more vocal haters. I used it mostly to vent some frustration with the first two episodes and their wall of Japenese terms and translator notes.

Just finished Ep. 46 of Shinkenger, man, this series is awesome, I love all the character developments and their inner struggle.

Just finished Liveman. One of the best character-building Sentai series I've seen, but falls short because the latter two Livemen (Black Bison and Green Sai) seem rather superfluous to the plot when the other three are developled so nicely. The same goes for Guildos and Butchy of Volt, although I can let this slide since it makes more sense toward the end of the series. Bias is a great villain, shrouded in mystery even until the very end.

The mecha fights were another aspect that I felt let the show down a bit, as they felt even more bland than usual (this could just be because I'm not used to pre-2000 Sentai though). I really liked LiveRobo, but LiveBoxer was just a walking box SuperLiveRobo was pretty cool though.

All in all an almost perfect series, but for the first time I found myself watching it more for the civilian sequences rather than the action.
