Gender Swapped rangers. I'd like them to explore it further. Right now the body really suffer from tolerance issues where joints are loose, especially the hips. Also the helmets clearly mean for other figures stick out like a sore thumb.
Lady MMPR Red Sir MMPR Yellow Honestly the helmet redesign for yellow is the one I notice the least. Metallic yellow has a better helmet not because of the redesign but due to being able to remove the head safely on that body. Dragonzord in Battle Mode |

I know it was not intended by Hasbro, but someone did research about this and helmets on women always appear disproportionate and larger than normal because womens heads are very near the same size and shape as mens but their torsos are smaller and shoulders are less prominent.

Thing is in the sentai footage at least, most of the female rangers are male stunt men. Tack on that many yellow rangers are male characters in the sentai.
Yeah there conundrum of what's realistic vs what you aesthetically expect to see. Though Hasbro's female bodies tend to make them seem really petite. Characters who do hit the gym and have muscle. Their torsos should be a bit more developed. The very last thing though. MMPR Red's helmet is just gigantic even for a guy. It's a giant motorcycle helmet. Jason Yellow, I think the helmet isn't as small as it seems. I'm just used to thinking about Yellow's on a female body buck. But this just come back to design. A designer would compensate for reality by just adjusting the sizes even if that would make the human head very small(or large). Like how Iron Man's legs in the MCU physically couldn't accommodate human anatomy. |

I think the rest of your point still stands, though. The designers do make choices that help balance the proportions. Helmets for the ladies tend to have less extreme protrusions and fewer large embellishments than the ones for the men, even if the overall base size of the helmets is the same. I think it also has to be said that the proportions of the male and female bodies in the Lightning Collection are not at all show-accurate. The male base bodies are WAY larger than the male suit actors' real bodies, so as figures, the difference in helmet sizes between the men and women becomes even more exaggerated. In reality, the size difference between a male suit actor and a female suit actor is not nearly as extreme, which definitely minimizes the proportional differences between them. This hasn't been true for quite a while. In Sentai, the primary suit actor for a core female ranger hasn't been male in 10 years. In the last 22 years, it's only happened five times (YellowBuster, GokaiYellow, BoukenYellow, BoukenPink, GaoWhite).
It's true for Zyuranger and quite true for a bulk of Power Rangers given what 10 years actually coverers for the show. Then with Power Rangers, the actors(who tend to be noticeably bigger) in the suits vs the PR Stuntpeople vs the Japanese stunt actors are all different in size. I'd say the LC figures sit between the PR actors sizes and the stuntpeople. Though since it's generally two sizes, not much variation happening. |
