What are some Toku shows and movies made this decade that people from 10-15 years ago wouldn’t believe you about if you traveled back in time and put everything in context? Like if you went back to the year 2003 or 2008 to tell them about the future of Toku in the 2010s?

You remember Garo, that cool show that aired late at night for a few months in 2005 and then had a finale TV special? It’s a yearly franchise now.

Did you think it was cool when Ultraman Mebius brought back the actors from older shows? Get used to that, especially if you’re a Sentai fan.

Toei remembered Metal Heroes.

By 2018, you will be able to buy official translations of Super Sentai and Garo and legally stream Ultraman.

The Tokusatsu GaGaGa by Tanba Niwa is getting a live-action adaptation, which I guess will make it a "legitimate" Tokusatsu entry!

Didn't know about this franchise prior to hearing about the live-action news.

I've heard of a rumor in which Toho produced a version of King Kong, possibly in '37. This might make it the first REAL tokusatsu production EVER, but given the timing and world events, it was supposedly lost with a few people from the era claiming that it did exist and they did work on it.

Is this true or just rumor?

I think you mean King Kong Appears in Edo and yes, it was a real movie. It was done by Zensho Cinema, not Toho. Fuminori Ohashi even considers it to be the first Toku ever. Godzilla 1954 was not the first Toku, but it was the first major one that helps create Toku that we know today.

It's TRUE. The very 1st Tokusatsu movies was NOT Godzilla 54,but a King Kong REMAKE for Japanese audiences. There are NO images that I know of,unless Ed Godzewski or Sean Linkenback (both Godzilla authors and historians) know of it,all prints were destroyed in WW2,but I believe the release date WAS 1937,early 1938...lemme see if I can ask Sean ,since he is also a Poster guy as well. But it DID happen!!
