Just saw this, and I have to call it for what it is: Decade Meets Zyuranger!
- Protagonist wakes up from a work counter after having a significant dream which will likely play into the series story later, just like Natsumi in Decade. - Protagonist has a friend and editor named "Mei", which reminded me of Pteraranger Mei from Zyuranger. - Recurring villain told first episode kaijin to "connect the worlds" or to the effect, which again echoes Decade. - First episode kaijin is a Golem, which again echoes Zyuranger. Kamen Sentai Go-Rider is now officially dethroned in the category of "More Sentai Than Rider Spin-Off"! As with most of the preceding comments, I too believe that this might have been missing scenes and hope a slightly longer Director's Cut exists. I've never been one for collecting Rider Belts (too expensive for one), and this design isn't the greatest, but something about the Seiken Swordriver (hope I got the name right) speaks to me for reasons even I can't fathom! First battle wasn't all that interesting even though we had a Rider Kaijin go all Sentai on us. Even the growth angle was a bonafide Sentai camera shot! Admittedly, it's not the first giant monster in a Rider and it was nice to see Saber defeat it without a giant vehicle or creature as some Riders use when and if they face a giant adversary. I don't fully understand the villain motivation here. Trapping people and a good chunk of a city in a magical book world causes a mini-book to gain power and dangling hand props to write on blank pages. Yeah...not following the logic here! Is someone trying to save Sentai by incorporating its elements into Rider? That's kinda the feel you get here among others. Also wondering if someone is trying to forcibly revive the Taisen Movies! Waiting for the next entry in "Rider Sentai Go-Saber"! Sorry, I couldn't resist ![]() |

Honestly, that first episode felt a bit too much Sentai to my taste...

I gotta say, I'm really not seeing all these Sentai comparisons. The only thing it's pulling from there that Kamen Rider hasn't used already is the dancing ending theme. Beyond that? We've had Rider shows with this lighthearted tone before (arguably most of them for the past decade). We've had them with a ton of colorful Riders out of the gate before (Gaim, Ex-Aid). We've had them with stock footage transformations before (pretty much the entire Showa era, Kiva, Ex-Aid, Ghost especially). Heck, we've even had Rider shows with special nomenclature for the episode titles (Hibiki called 'em volumes and wrote the numbers out in kanji, Kuuga consistently stylized them as "EPISODE" in English, ditto Zi-O with "EP" to emulate a digital watch display). Is it really just the bigger than usual monster? That gets fought on foot by a still normal-sized Saber and not an equally big robot? Or is a stock footage finishing move just a step too far?
I mean, it's definitely more of those elements at once than usual, I guess, but nothing here felt all that out there for Kamen Rider to me.

Just because the Golem grew doesn't mean Saber is taking cues from Sentai. In Build, there was the Square Smash who got enlarged and that was a Rider series to it's core.

Also I'm going to bet that it's Golem, and only Golem at the moment who is going to grow giant because well... he's based on a Golem. All the rubble and trash just coming together to make him bigger like... makes sense.
Given toy listings I feel like we may have a bigger monster in the future, but I think Golem's going to be one of the few Megiddo to actually just grow slightly bigger. |

Huh. I'm not immediately sure what exactly they would mean by that, but it'd certainly explain why Saber is resonating with me so much right away.

Only question I have is when will we start seeing Rintarou beg for mercy for sweets. It is gonna be Fuwa trying to hold back his laughter when Aruto did his jokes all over again.

Last Heisei season as in... before Reiwa? Or were they gonna end Rider for some arbitrary reason?

From what I know, and I can't cite any of this properly so it could be wrong, there was a lot of speculation in Japan that the Heisei era wold end a few months before when it actually did, more along the lines of mid-2018 than the early-2019 it ended up being. Hence, the Movie Wars for Build being named Heisei Generations Final, as it was intended to be the last Heisei Rider movie. Then that didn't happen and they made Heisei Generations Forever, which is a decent title to go with.
But as for Build getting a higher budget because of this, and supposedly having more 'finality'? I'm doubtful of point A - if they thought the money would get them a decent return, they'd be spending it on every season - and point B just seems wrong? If it means the Heisei Gen Forever movie, then maybe, but that's not even that final for anyone, and Build as a whole doesn't put a bow on the whole era in anywhere near the way Zi-O does. And, of course, you have to consider where Zi-O comes into all this, how early he was planned, especially with the rumours above. That's all for someone who actually knows what they're talking about. |
