Another fine episode of Donbrothers this week, we're still in the summer break period where there isn't much plot happening, but at least the episodes are pretty good, including this one. In this episode, Kijino gets fired, and the others misunderstand (something Inoue is very familiar with in his shows) and think that Kiji's mother is going to die if she doesn't get some sort of serious surgery, and end up overworking themselves, and it all culminates in them working together (even including Tsubasa) to save the restaurant that's bad sales caused Kijino to get fired in the first place. They, of course, get the restaurant's sales back up and everything's good, though it's a real shame that the show is ending next week, I've really enjoyed it so far, though I guess it's so we can have a double finale with R*vice. But a good episode all things considered and next week's episode also looks fun, though I do hope after that, we start getting back into the plot, not that I don't enjoy these episodes, just that Donbrothers has so many mysteries that I hope we'll get back to those. |

This show rules! I'd say the wacky shenanigans born from the characters just being their stupid selves would be enough to carry a whole episode even without any toku action, but I've come to find that the extra touch of them transforming into colourful superheroes on the side is actually a pretty perfect combination for the feel of this show.
It took me this long to realise that Tsukasa being such an outlier among the group is just as much a running gag as Shinichi's haikus, so I think at this point it should just be held off until as late as possible and kept up through increasingly absurd and implausible circumstances. After all, this episode (and the previous one with the 'hostage situation') proved that there's nothing stopping all five of them from being together and making a fun time regardless. |

This might be one of the most stereotypically Inoue-y episodes of Donbrothers yet, and at the same time, another perfect example of why I think Donbrothers seems to be massively clicking even with people who aren't always so hot on the way this guy is known to write. I've beat this drum plenty of times already over the past half year, but like -- the Donbrothers are exceptionally kind people, when all is said and done, you know? And that generosity shines throughout this episode, which does something different with the usual Inoue ~misunderstanding~ routine. It's not about an escalation of dramatic tension and antagonism this time. The plot here is a chain of people inspiring one another to give everything they've got for the sake of someone else, and the pointlessness of most of those efforts is funny, of course, but it just makes the selflessness of it all that much sweeter at the end of the day. It's just totally un-cynical, with the lone voice arguing in favor of looking out for number one going completely ignored, as Jirou ends up helping out the group even after being tempted by his own dark side not to join in on the fun. And that's the right move! Do you see that picture up there? Who wouldn't want to get in on that party? These guys spent half an episode working themselves to the bone with little to show for it, but instead of a one-note joke about the plight of the working class or whatever, fate basically rewards their persistence in the end, because everyone ends up exactly where they need to be, and gets the chance to do exactly what they need to do to make things better for everyone. And Tsubasa even does it without knowing what's going on at all! ...As always. (That cut to him alone in the kitchen managed to dethrone Saru Brother's awkward "yeeaaaaah...!" as my favorite gag in the episode, which is really saying something.) So yeah, I don't know, I thought this one was utterly delightful, although I lack the necessary vocabulary to properly elucidate what makes that different from all the other weeks I say that about Donbrothers. There's just something about the particular narrative flow of this one I especially enjoyed. The plot keeps winding in on itself in this fun way, where every new element is introduced smoothly by putting it in context of an existing element (i.e. Tsuyoshi tells Tarou who tells Haruka who tells Shinichi), and things that are introduced offhandedly end up playing a major role by the end (everybody winds up at the restaurant that started the whole plot!). The structure is impeccable. Everything builds up perfectly to the climax, and the climax is basically just the Donbrothers working together to support local business. The story itself is charmingly uplifting, and the way that story plays out makes it that much more enjoyable to experience. I don't have some gut feeling that this is my new favorite episode of Donbrothers or anything, but sitting down to write about it, I genuinely can't think of even a single thing more I would ask of it. Make of that what you will, I guess.

- The other Donbrothers still didn't meet Kenji Sayama aka Cat Juuto. And I feel this situation is dragged quite long. Currently, only Inu Brother who always meets Kenji Sayama. The other weird thing is no response from police department about Kenji Sayama's violence actions in the ramen shop. Even Jin Momoi still didn't give warning about Juuto to Donbrothers. - Currently, Jin Momoi as mentor didn't have an interesting role. His last interesting role is when he meet Noto to explain about some of Juuto types. - Tsubasa Inuzuka are really easily to get some of jobs despite his status as fugitive. He even can go to salon without any problems. - The five Robotaro Gears are didn't have interesting background and origin. I personally think the story become more interesting if Donbrothers are trying to get Robotaro Gears by completing some missions. If we compare Don Onitaijin's debut episode with Go-Buster Oh's debut episode, I think Go-Buster Oh's debut episode is more interesting because the Go-Busters need some of the efforts to obtain Go-Buster Oh formation. On today's episode of Dilbert... Just kidding.
DonBrothers just knows how to take a funny idea and turn it into something beyond that. It's similar to Zenkaiger, but in that season's case, it was more in line with a parody (this doesn't change the fact that I absolutely adore Zenkaiger), it's just really interesting how DonBrothers manages to pull this off. Sure, I can concur with the complaints pointed out with the show so far, but again, like Zenkaiger, I'm not too hung up over it? It's just fun to watch and not have to think too much, since it doesn't bother me too much (which is funny given my relationship with Revice). But the DonBrothers fixing the restaurant that Kijino gets blamed for failing at the start of the episode and fix it up and just work in suit at the place, even Don Momotarou bringing in his Festival Helpers which absolutely made my day. I enjoyed this a little too much. Not much to say, other than me just loving how everyone got involved in a misunderstanding in the funniest way possible and ultimately leading to fixing the issue, just absolutely kills me. Next Episode: This might be the greatest episode to air alongside a Kamen Rider Finale.
