I remember watching Ultraman: Towards the Future on TV as well. One thing I will never forget about that show is that Ultraman's time limit was due to the "polluted atmosphere of Earth." Always thought that was a neat touch. Also, there was a 3 issue Ultraman comic right around then which was based on Towards the Future. Although, in the comic, they refer to Great as the same Ultraman who came to Earth in 1965, which is nonsensical now, but at the time I thought was very cool!

Speaking of Ultraman comics, the series done to coincide with Tiga was pretty damn cool. It remained mostly faithful to the series with its own bit of humor (Melba, you're toast!). Some monsters from the series only ultimately appeared as cameos, while others like the invading Regulan aliens were altered to look like the classic Baltans instead of the swirly starfish-cone look the originals had going for them. Needless to say, that was a change that received no complaints from me.

I have never seen the Tiga comics; I will have to track them down. I am going to HeroesCon in a few weeks in Charlotte so I will see what I can see there.
Melba always was a cool looking monster, even if his name always elicited snickers from me. The Fox Tiga was hard for me to watch. I mean that literally; I didn't have cable when it was airing so I had to go by over the air. In the apartment I was in when it first started airing, this was not a problem. But I moved midway through the show and I never seemed to catch it in the new apartment. Part of it also was that I was always out of town on the weekends, as well. I'd like to grab those DVDs but man, some of them are really pricey. The jokiness of the show was grating but you got used to it; it reminded me of watching Superhuman Samurai Syber Squad back in the day, where I would either mute or tune out the dialogue and just watch the effects. In fact Tiga was better in that respect because it had the GUTS crew and not American inserts.

At the time it was airing, I never really watched Tiga despite my love for Godzilla and later Power Rangers, a decision I only slightly regret. It was made worse by the dub but the real killer was that on the few occasions I did see it, it was always the Halloween episode. I ultimately hated that episode for some reason I now forget but it tarnished my interest in the show for years. Don't recall what aired on its timeslot on the WB, but that was what regularly kept me from seeing any better episodes.

Put in an order for the reissue of Ultra-Act Ultraman yesterday. Have to wait until mid-to-late July for him to come in, but I am very excited to have ordered my first Ultra-Act figure!
When I get some more money I am going to pick up a Bandai Ultra Monsters Bemular for him to fight, hehehe! Also, Baltan, mycomicshop.com has 9 of the 10 issues of the Dark Horse Tiga comic... I think I am going to order them next time I put together an order from them. Some 4 color Ultra goodness, baby! http://www.mycomicshop.com/search?TID=475511

Got to play some Taiketsu! Ultra Hero yesterday for my GBA.
OH MY GOD. This game is an Ultra Fan's dream come true. A straight up one on one fighting game, it stars a whole band of Ultras and some monsters, and is clean, fast, and has the best controls of any Ultraman game I have ever played. It's got Ultraman, Ultraseven, Jack, Taro, Tiga, Gaia, and Agul, then for the monsters it has Baltan, Zetton (Z-Ton), Dinotanker, Tyrant, Gatanozoa, and Reicubas. You can read more about it here: http://ultra.wikia.com/wiki/Taiketsu!_Ultra_Hero And here's a video: And you can find it on any good romsite. Any Ultra fan should check this awesome game out, you will not be disappointed.

I'm going to make this an emoticon in my messaging program here at work:
I like this one too but I don't think it's going to come up much!

Watched the first two episodes of Ultraseven X. Very cool. Very dark and moody show. The second episode, which deals with alien abduction, really gave me a strong Ultra Q/X-Files vibe moreso than an Ultraman one.
Definitely a real change of pace from more typical Ultra shows and light years away from the modern Super Sentai and Kamen Rider stuff for sure.

I have it on DVD but have never watched it. It is on my "to watch" pile, though. I have next Friday off, so I am penciling it in for then...
