Oh man, Sento. You have no idea how true that is... This episode was excellent. I haven't been this drawn in to a Rider show this fast in years. One of the strongest premieres we've gotten since... Wizard, maybe? Anyway this basically had everything, including but not limited to: - Pacing that felt just the tiniest bit less "cramped" than the past couple shows. I have a hard time explaining it if you don't know what I mean but, while it certainly wasn't as slow as something like Agito, it didn't move a mile a minute the way Drive, Ghost, and Ex-Aid did. A sort of "Best Match" of styles, if you'll forgive the obvious wordplay. - Solid exposition on the unique bits of the setting without feeling too bogged down by said exposition. - Seeds for all sorts of mysteries to be solved, again without throwing too much at the viewer all at once. - Some really great action. Major props for an extended sequence of bike action at the end. I'm still prepared for the poor thing to stop existing by halfway through, but for now, I'm very happy. - A pretty likable main character. I was expecting Sento to be obnoxious but he's mostly just enthusiastic, and having a bit of an attitude is a nice change of pace for the lead this year. The whole scientist shtick adds justification to the piles upon piles of possible Forms Build has too. Of course he'd want to try mixing and matching all his toys constantly, how else is going to find what works and what doesn't? - Toei living up to that article where they said Build would take all the good bits of every Kamen Rider show. We've finally got a cafe again, for crying out loud! And Build's helmet has the "tears" under his eyes! I didn't even notice that until now! Also Build is actually a vigilante who has beef with the authorities. I like stuff like that. Hopefully it makes for some drama down the line. - Consistent continuity! Ryuuga totally did have his pants unzipped the whole time. Which felt like kind of a weird thing to go back and check for, but hey. - Sento's f***ing watch: That's either so genius it's stupid or so stupid it's genius. Possibly both. So in a single half hour of television, I've been made super hyped for what's to come. All this considering I wasn't even that excited for the show when all the announcements were being made. You did good, episode 1. You did good.

Ditto to everything Fish Sandwich just said!
I've only watched the raw (I'm a TVN guy, sue me), but I'm lovin' it so far! I was on a Rider hiatus since Gaim, it was just too good, that Drive left me feeling flat and then I never even bothered with Ghost/E-A. I always take toku breaks, I'll catch up on a few years worth while watching the current show, spend a few grand on toys I don't need, get burned out, then abandon ship for a while. I've never once jumped into a series on day one, but yesterday, by a series of random events I found about Build, then realized shortly after ep1 was airing within hours. Fate...? Anyway, at least I'll be able to get in on the toys without having to track them all down after the fact. The lockseed hunt was grueling! Last edited by KSC; 09-03-2017 at 10:43 AM.. |

Particularly, the protagonist has elements of Shouichi-kun while the world itself reminds me a bit of Kabuto.

I love it. I was a bit scared that the first episode wouldn't really live up to the hype but it actually did. And I love Sento, especially his dynamic with Ryuuga at the end. Also thank God the bike is going to be featured a lot.

despite my bad first impression about build(because to many form), this is quite solid first episode, i just hope this rider don't spam form at first early episode and forget about it later, but yeah that's about it later also what is it about that floating formula when he about to henshin?, i get the rider kick formula but when about to henshin? thats kinda weird also i licked KR claw character already

Gotta say, I'm liking this show. Though I did feel that a dew bits, like some of the exposition and the initial transformation, were a bit awkward. Then again, it's the first episode. That's kind of to be expected. Sento was pretty cool, with plenty of humor to along with him. Instead of Emu's physical gags, it's him telling jokes and intentionally being funny. Can't wait to see how the other characters fit into their roles as the show goes on too.
Also: My dad actually has a wall clock of that watch. Almost the same formulas and everything. I laughed so hard when that showed up.

If you google "equation watch" a whole bunch show up. Different makers change up the formulas, too.

Really wasn't sure what to think going into this one. I hadn't really kept up with any of the pre-release information about the premise or the characters, so I was more or less going in blind. Have to say that I'm quite pleased with what I just watched.
The tone definitely feels very early-Heisei to me; like something around the Ryuki/Faiz era. I love most of the pre-Den-O era, so this works a lot for me. We've got a good start with the core cast and the setting, but both will obviously be developed more as we go along. I'm really looking forward to seeing where this goes. I'm also enjoying the action scenes. Build's weapons still look hella fake and plastic-y, but we got an actual motorcycle action scene. Yes, half of it was just CGI, but I can't remember the last time we got a bike scene that wasn't just racing or part of some elaborate CGI finisher. I really hope this stays as part of the show. The suit and its abilities look really promising, too. So yeah, all in all I enjoyed this a lot and look forward to seeing where it goes. |

I just KNEW that my irrational hype about this show wasn't for nothing! This show is totally my style! I love that Sento and Ryuga's backstories have an intensely Showa vibe to them, and the various early Heisei stylings to everything. The humor was also on-point for me, and I loved the random MATH for Build's finisher. Within one episode the world is already intensely intriguing and the characters are a lot of fun. I absolutely can't wait for more! Gosh I love Kamen Rider.

I liked what I got. An interesting world building, mysteries and questions that needs answers, a vigilante Rider, an awesome suit, and it wasn't childish like Ex-Aid's first outing.
