Hello everyone! Recently something that's crossed my mind was how the reception for some toku shows has changed a lot over the years, some shows have gotten a lot of praise or a lot flack upon initial airing but in recent years have seen a swing in opposite direction from fans upon revisits. My question to everyone one is what show did you have strong opinions about initially only for them to change some time later?

For me I have to say it was Kamen rider blade. At first I really loved the show the first time I viewed it but, after some revisits I find it kinda mediocre now.

Oh, god, loads. I suppose most relevant for me right now is that the past year I've been giving Ghost another chance after not being into it a few years ago; and I also gave both seasons of Amazons a go a few months ago after the first few episodes heavily turning me off also a few years ago. They've gone from like near the bottom of my rankings to both being shows I've ended up adoring a lot (for very different reasons!) and ones I can just appreciate all the more. In particular Ghost is now one of my favourite Rider shows and Amazons Season 2 came right out of nowhere to be an instant love.
In the opposite direction, Gaim and Drive were my favourite shows very early on; but the more distance I have from them the less good things I have to say about them. Chaser's still the best, though! And know what? I don't wanna end it on something negative, so something more middle of the road: 555 and Ryuki were both shows that I didn't enjoy watching, and still aren't things that work for me personally; but the more I think about them and talk to other people about them way after watching them, the more respect I have for them? Like, I come to understand what both of them are going for and having a respect and praise for in ways that I almost come right back around to liking them! It's nice when your opinion on something can improve the more you understand them

The only thing that springs to my mind is Zyuranger. At first, I thought it is a very good season but upon watching it years later, the show is still pretty decent but a good part of its writing didn't hold up as well. I still maintain something of a soft spot towards it though due to being the very first Sentai series I've watched.

555 is the big one for me. For years I swore it was down there at the bottom of the Rider tier list just above Kiva and Ghost. Then I rewatched it last year and really rediscovered all of the elements that I'd liked the first time while also realizing that its flaws are nowhere near as bad as I remembered. It's not my favorite show ever, but I really do appreciate it now and I can definitely see myself watching it again.

Ultraman Orb.
Watched the first episode for free on YT, wasn't impressed and thought it was the worst of the three I watched. This was furthered by their appearance in the Geed movie, where Juggler just kinda creeper me out. Caved, bought the physical release and just fell in love with it.

Dunno if I said this personal story before, but it's Blade. I went from being mad about the ending, to being sad about the ending. I used to watch Blade on local TV, so I may miss on some episodes and what not. Quality of the TV screen was dodgy too.
Around the point when Kenzaki becomes Joker, I couldn't make out what was happening. And my 5-year old self thought that Kenzaki became the Joker, ran away from Hajime, and committed suicide. Because the last vivid memory I recall was supposedly Hajime trying to look for Kenzaki to no luck. Got so mad that the show 'ended' like that. Then I rewatched it years later and I got Bench'd lol. |

As Gaim's something that leans heavy on dark and edgy stuff, I'd want to know what's the reasoning for Drive?

Lightspeed Rescue. I used to be of the opinion that it was just okay. Then rewatched it a few years back with a friend of mine who put it as his favorite season of Power Rangers. His passion absolutely rubbed off on me, as I now have it as one of my top seasons.

Decade. It was a season of hype, a chance to see these suits in action for shows I haven't yet watched. It was great. I had a sour taste in my mouth after the shit ending, as well as learning that the film that would resolve it wouldn't actually resolve it.
However, over time, I really came to dislike the series. It was a weak anniversary with a poor set of characters, all rounded out by an amnesia story that asks 10 questions and answers 2. Upon my first rewatch, after having seen a good chunk of series now, I really just came to dislike, well, even more. Tsukasa was a Tendou level dick but without the charm, which also didn't help in the slightest. Yusuke was a lot better than I remembered, though, so I'll give it that. Going the opposite direction, Megaranger. On my viewing, it was just average, with few standout characters or moments, but as I let it simmer, I came to realize that I did enjoy more than I realized. I just needed to give it a little time.
