Oh yeah, I think Episode 10-18 is an awesome stretch of the show that escalates the plot and gives focus to both the heroes and villains. A lot to look forward to here.

Mele is #1 on my Heisei Green Ranger Ranking and that scene where she rejects Naga's offer and severs his Madoku Ringi is one of her memorable bad*ss moments!

I finished rewatching Abaranger. Aba was actually my first Sentai show back a buncha years ago, but unfortunately I think it was a bad choice for a first Sentai for me. I actually feel a lore more generous towards it now that I've seen more Sentai and can appreciate what it did that was unique.


Laying down the basics, I was pretty "meh" towards Aba the first time I saw it. As a tokusatsu fan I really only knew Kamen Rider at that point and I didn't even know anything about Power Rangers, so I kept wanting to compare it to Rider and it was usually losing that fight.


Now I can appreciate a lot of the unique stuff it does, Ryoga being a father is something that almost no tokusatsu does with its protagonist, Abarekiller as a villainous ranger that doesn't reallt get fully redeemed is very novel for Sentai (even if, again, coming from Rider it didn't strike me as special the first time watching). It's also something of a return to form, since its two predecessor shows Gao and Hurricane were... pretty frickin' bad.


That being said, it still has plenty of issues. To this day I cannot grasp why Abarekiller is so popular. I kinda like the general concept and I like where his character arc ultimately ends, but in general I often found myself wishing he was... more hateable? He stops shy of being truly entertaining as a villain for me because he never goes quite far enough! I wanna be shouting at the screen when he shows up as opposed to feeling apathetic! I also think in general the cast can feel a bit flat. I'd have liked more episodes devoted to the inter-character dynamics a bit more (and in Ranru's case I kind of just wish they did more with her at all). Asuka's probably the most consistent character for me. He's always got a nice stake in the plot and goes through some of the most interesting moments in the show. Good stuff.


I dunno, it's definitely a mixed bag, but overall I feel like its definitely more of a B tier than a C tier show at this point. I always like it when I like something more the second time!

I'm on 25 myself so starting the 2nd half of Aba to take
it up to Deka in February. Nearly mid on Hurri so will watch
both in January.

Five Man

I saw the first one on You Tube and will se the series this week
on Shout Factory DVD. I did spot one curve ball. For me this will
be the 2nd time to see teachers as Rangers. The first for me
was Power Rangers Dino Thunder. Tommy became Black Brachio
Ranger.

Did the 5 Man Rangers stay on as teachers after the school was
attacked?

I am up to episode 41 of my Boukenger re-watch. Hopefully, I should be able to finish my revisiting of the series very soon and perhaps either start my re-watch of Magiranger or finally continue right where I left off on Maskman.

It's been a long time coming but I am now finally halfway through Maskman. I am also down to the final five episodes of my Boukenger rewatch. Might even start my Magiranger rewatch very soon.

I'm up to episode 46 of my Boukenger re-watch and, well, I really don't want to sound like I'm nitpicking but am I the only one that feels like this episode, especially considering the whole thing with Yaiba and Masumi including the final battle with the former, should've been a two-parter? Hell, the writers barely did jack shit with this subplot up to this point outside of the earlier episodes. It just seems they inexplicably forgot all about it before they suddenly remembered it during the show's endgame arc. Not to mention that before this point, the would-be darkness inside of Masumi's heart pretty much across as nothing more than a Informed Attribute.

As of yesterday, I have finished my Boukenger re-watch and I am also 13 episodes away from finishing up on Maskman. I also finally just started my Magiranger re-watch and it does feel good watching this particular series again especially under much better English subtitles. I am also considering watching Bioman next after I am finished with Maskman.
