Since this is spreading like a wildfire online, and since I can’t find a similar thread within 10 pages of the forum, I thought I’d start spreading this here. I’ll start by sharing both my opinions and some I agree with (which will be marked with speech marks).
Tokusatsu Unpopular opinions. Kamen Rider: They reuse modern monsters too much. Wizard: ''Why y’all mad about this show it’s great and Haruto was the last protagonist that didn’t start out as a Generic Good Boy before Sento'' Gekiranger: This show tries to escalate things way too soon and the episodes after the true poison arc devolve into a formula that grows old really quickly. Den-O: This show’s character development and power balance are nowhere near as good as people claim it is. Ninninger: ''Can be a fun series and thought it had some interesting messages and interesting things to say.'' Gokaiger: Most of the anniversary elements are really poorly handled, especially in episodes by Junko Komura (which is sadly, most of them). Fiveman: ''Over exaggerated hatedom'' Ryuki: 'Every arc ends with things resetting back to where they were at the start, which really hurts the rider battle concept.' OOO: ‘’It’s very largely an average series with a pedestrian cast. Also Enji and Ankh’s relationship wasn’t touching or healthy. LupinPat: The cast is not imbalanced. In fact, it’s the most balanced cast in the last seven years. W: This show established a lot of the WORST conventions of modern rider. Operation Overdrive: ''If other previously panned or mixed bag seasons can be re-evaluated or have folks admitting they’re better than originally given credit for, I don’t see why Overdrive has to be treated like an open and shut case.'' |

My unpopular opinion is that...
... Eh, nah. I could go on about Power Rangers stuff and maybe Kiva but my experience is that these types of threads are never the best place for discussion and tend to get really unhealthy and argumentative and vent-y really quickly. So I guess that's my unpopular opinion? That an 'unpopular opinion' discussion topic is never enjoyable and almost always really dour and edgy?

Fiveman doesn't have a hatedom. It's just acknowledged as close to being the death knell for Sentai.
And I need a citation for the LuPat reasoning, because the Patrangers sitting on their asses only appearing for fight scenes while the Lupinrangers going through a solo story arc doesn't resonate 'balance' to me.

Unpopular opinions? Well, I mean, if you want, I could just quote like at least 50% of everything I've ever posted on this forum...

But, you know, on the other hand, I seem to recall this guy with a cool sword and frequent trouble enunciating words who liked to say that we should fight fate, so everyone feel free to prove me wrong! I'd love it if we could all have a nice healthy, respectful discussion where we all learn to mutually understand differing and uncommon perspectives. I also don't feel like I can really contribute that much, though. Most thoughts I could put out there, I have a million times already.

Kenzaki is probably going "It was just that one time..." while he puts on his 6th spade themed accessory

I'd actually lay the blame on Den-O. Aside from the collectible gimmick, Den-O established most of the elements that became the template for the Neo Heisei era. W was just the first show to implement a lot of those ideas because Kiva was likely already in development before Den-O became as big as it did and because Decade was the anniversary show (although if you want to blame someone for the collectible belt gimmick, look no further than Decade/Ganbaride cards).

My only real gripe with Kamen Rider is the treatment or lack of women in a lot of the series.

Most of the Power Rangers shows that I've seen are pretty bad. I think there are only two or maybe three that I consider being pretty good or watchable. I always prefer Sentai over Power Rangers similar to how I do with Macross over Robotech.

Akira Date is a horrible character and the worst part of OOO.
The Neo-Saban Era has its merits and its issues are blown way out of proportion by the PR fanbase. Netflix Ultraman was boring. That's about all I got. |

Too much generic cgi, too much sentai members,, less Gundam/Transformers-style mechas and anime-looking actors.
