FRS Kuuga got a new coat of paint this morning.
Might be a little hard to tell from the photos, but the difference is amazing in person! Or should I say mighty! Metallic red paint job on the left, straight out of box on the right.

I might not be able to appreciate the full extent of it, but I can definitely see it's picking out details like the Linto markings a lot more!

Companies have been doing some impressive things with paint lately. Games Workshop's "Contrast Paint" line is based entirely on this type of capillary effect. Also metallic paints are better than ever. This picture of Den-O's rear shows the color matching between Gundam Maker silver and the silver runner.

So what you're telling us is that Den-O has a Premium(Bandai) quality behind. Right?
Jokes aside, I really do need to pick up a pack of metallic markers at some point.

Perhaps I've just built too many Gunpla and the kits are feeling too same-y for me, but Minipla continue to impress.
Today we have Mashin Gattai Kiramaizin from the currently airing Mashin Sentai Kiramager! As we entered the final arc of Kamen Rider Zero One, I found myself getting the most enjoyment from Kiramager when it came to toku shows. At first, I thought the design of the mecha was too simplistic in the way in transformed, especially with Blue Jetter just being a straight up sword; but thinking off how each mech is a triple change and how Kiramaizin is also a combination of Land Mage and Sky Mage, I came to love the design and the many ways it was used in the show. For paint: Mashin Fire - Molotow chrome marker on the "headlights". Gundam Marker Shine Silver beneath the red gem stones on the chest, front and back thigh stones, and beneath the side window gems. All stickers used. Mashin Shovellow - Gundam marker gold on the headlights, shine silver beneath the upper wheel. All stickers used. Mashin Mach - Shine silver under the hood and on back of the head that can be seen from the top. Metallic green on the headlights. I cut the headlight stickers to use the flame part in conjunction with paint. All black stickers used. Mashin Jetter - Molotow chrome paint on the windows, metallic blue on the kneecaps/underside gems. Slight modification to the flame stickers to get rid of the white part. Whats with all the flame styling? Mashin Helico - Metallic pink on the front windows. Shine silver underneath the helicopter blades. Metallic black on the landing gear and Sky Mage hands. Headlight stickers were used. Metallic blue paint for the top Sky Mage's head. The overall build was quite good and the end result is another winner for minipla. The articulation is impressive with optional joints for the waist skirt and ankles. It's a bit of a bummer that the actual head doesn't fit into Mashin Mach, but I'm glad they included a larger head option instead of leaving us with the squished one inside Mach. I'm want to pick up King Express Zabyun next but I hope he comes in his own set and I don't have to buy the Smog Jouki set. That guy looks rad.

Hello,
tried to do some painting with the gundam markers I bought recently. Here is the result : Gold, silver and were easy to put, red was more difficult to put on the blue plastic. Tried silver and black elsewhere. One of the black is really black and cover eveything (it is hard to control where you stop). Another one is light (code GM20, it is light it hardly cover anything. I don't understand how it should be used (panel line ? I tried but it doesn't seems good to me) I have a difficulty to not go to far. Is there another method than putting masking tape to be sure to do things right ? (I hope it doesn't bother you if I put my test to seek your advice, tell me if it is the case) If I put a sticker over a part how should I remove it ? hot water ? Thanks for your advice ! Neoxul |

GM20 marker is not really good for anything. Maybe it is okay to panel white parts. Most of the time, the pen is dried up for me.
It might help you to apply the paint with a small paintbrush. This will help you control the paint better. I use a tiny paintbrush and work in layers to make sure the paint doesn't spread to places I don't want it. Masking doesn't really work with paintbrush and markers (it is mostly for airbrush). To remove sticker, use rubbing alcohol or dedicated sticker removal like Goo Gone.

I read something about using it for paneling using a cotton swab to delete the ink. Quote:
Is it a special paintbrush ? I suppose you have to "wash" it after use, what should I use to do that ? Alcohol ? Water ? Quote:

I thought I was gonna do a guide for these but they turned out to be really simple.
First up is the SO-DO Rise Hopper. For this one I used Gundam Marker EX Silver for the wheel spokes, the kickstand, and a couple of details around the engine. I used Molotow Chrome in the one spot there was a silver sticker. The SO-DO Rise Hopper is a nice little kit but feels on the big side. It's certainly wider than it should be, making it difficult to put a figure on properly. Well, it looks good and its the best rendition of the bike unless the Figuarts actually happens. Next up are the auxiliary robots from Kiramager. This was a full set of 5 minipla. Here is the sticker sheet for all of them after I was done. Again, I used Molotow Chrome for all the shiny silver headlights. I used Gundam Marker Metallic Black for all the black stickers. For Mashin Carry, I don't know why his non-jeweled parts are supposed to be white while everyone else is black. They come on a black runner with white stickers. I tried painting them white, but white is already a hard color to paint such a broad area, much less over black parts! I ended up using the stickers, but I wish I just kept them black. Anyway, I also messed up on the Molotow Chrome paint apps. The silly marker requires days to set and I kept accidently touching the chrome painted areas just trying to move around and pose the robots. I still think Minipla are great and these are an fun addition to the Kiramaizin. I mostly wanted it for the gun, but also there's a vacuum! How cool is that? The next upcoming kits that will be arriving this month are Figure-rise Standard Hibiki and Mashin Zabyu-N Minipla. I'm really excited for Hibiki and I've already outlined a plan based on the preview images and early build videos online.
