I actually hated Thor when I saw it in cinemas, I found it underwhelming but then by being underwhelmed it really opened my eyes to the wonders of Thor as a film.
It just has a huge heart and an even bigger imagination and although it may not be as huge or as explosive than Avengers, the general insanity of Thor, in my mind, makes it the most fun. I watch it pretty regularly now and have fun every time. With Thor: The Dark World expanding on the Asgardian mythology, I can hardly wait!

I too found Thor not as impressive in the beginning. In fact, back then I preferred Captain America. It was only after a few rewatches of the Marvel movies that I realized how awesome and rewatchable Thor was. The worlds were charming and immensely imaginative and the characters were all very likable. The New Mexico backdrop, which I wasn't a fan of at first, I now consider one of the best decisions made. It definitely remains the most entertaining movie (aside from Avengers) in Phase 1 for me.

Thor was an excellent adaptation, but it's not a particularly straight one. Thor's coming to Earth is pretty different in the comics.

Considering the ARE Marvel Studios they took quite a few liberties with the stories and characters.

Eh, I'd still say Captain America is a straighter adaptation than Thor.

Straightest to which story and version of the character? The whole thing played out like someone read the first issue of the Ultimates and a back issue of Captain America from the 40s and kinda mashed it together. I enjoyed the film but from an adaptation stand point I found it a mess.

Yes the film combined elements or the original and Ultimate origins, but both of those are still pretty similar and combined still tell the same story.
Thor on the other hand dropped the origin of either version of the character apart from having to go to Earth. He didn't have to live life as a crippled doctor or a psychiatric nurse, or even have to attempt living a double life. Like I said I'm not denying it worked for the film, but I wouldn't call it straight.

I honestly liked Thor. It wasn't the best out of the Avenger movies, but it wasn't horrible.

Which is the point I'm disagreeing with. I think Cap is the straightest out of them all.
