While I still don't like that Aruto is back in his seat in HIDEN Intelligence, nor do I like that the direction with the Ark becoming this all-encompassing evil instead of just representing Metsubojinrai... I do like Horobi a lot! Maybe more than he deserves!
He's honestly mostly been static for the last 40 episodes, but I've never really needed a lot from him. I always figured and hoped from the beginning that they would firmly establish that his own genuine will is for humagears to completely replace humans, thus driving in his conflict with Aruto and AIMs, and then coming to blows to Jin over it. It happened a lot later than I would have expected, but I'm glad it happened at all. Speaking of Jin, wow, did he get clobbered left and right all day. I'm not surprised he lost to Horobi but I didn't think it'd be that one-sided! Assuming they don't somehow still change Horobi's heart, I'm speculating that he will meet his end at the hands of Vulcan, who's kinda been desperate for something to do during this final stretch (I mean so is Valkyrie but that's nothing new...). I would say that would even be a perfect showdown with history and conflicting ideologies behind it if the show hadn't went and said Fuwa's backstory was made up (hey i'm still not over that). Anyhow, even if Horobi does still somehow turn good before the end of the show, I wouldn't even be upset because at least they established that all his actions up until this point are his own. I always had a worry at the back of my head that they would just say 'the ark is the only reason he is like this' which would have been a lot less compelling. I was so happy when they got rid of the Ark because Horobi is a much more interesting final boss but - nope, it'll be back.
Great... |

One downside of this scenario to me of course, is that it would break Horobi's streak of kicking butt without needing a new form. Still fun to picture though. |

I mean, Ark is quite literally the personification of evil. That’s literally what it was created for. It may be a boring villain personality-wise, but it represents the very essence of what Aruto has been fighting against.
Much like Gai not being automatically forgiven, I like that Horobi didn’t just suddenly turn good because he betrayed Ark. Freedom to decide does mean not every humagear will Just happen to decide what’s right. I also like that he’s still rocking the Forceriser this late into the game and keeping up with everyone else. Even Ikazuchi got a cool moment by betraying Ark in his own way. Naki is still a waste of space, though, and I don’t understand her inclusion. (And why Fuwa had a humagear AI in his head but Yaiba didn’t?) Also I wish Fuwa and Yaiba would fucking do something again. Rampage Vulcan is still super powerful and useful, and I don’t understand why Yaiba hasn’t gotten an upgrade. Do what every fan artist has done and have her use Fighting Jackal in her shotriser for a final form. I mean the show is still good but there’s little... rough edges that I feel could be ironed out. |

Honestly, I haven't really been able to come around to the Ark even from a thematic standpoint. Aruto's two big ideologies in the show has been believing that humans and humagears can coexist, and believing in the good of technology. With the former, the Ark doesn't really have an opinion of any sort. With the latter? Well, Aruto believes technology can be good, and Ark is technology that is, uh, not good. I can see it but it hardly makes for an epic clash, compared to the likes of Horobi or even Thouser who held completely opposing views from Aruto.

I do like how they handled Horobi in this episode, in that his working with Aruto wasn't really a redemption but a rebelling against Ark so he could pursue his own dream.
I suppose his father-like instincts have just decided that Humans should all be killed to save all of his "children", the children being the Humagears. Cause, he makes a valid point that it's because of humanities evil's that the Ark was born, so if they continue to exist then Ark will come back in some shape or form. And because Ark things Humagears are unnecessary, well, yeah of course he wants to make sure things for his kind are well. Even if that means genocide. Also can I just say, like everyone's calling Ark just a boring malicious monster of al levil but this episode honestly did something great for me. It may be my interpretation but... this episode established the Ark as this petty piece of machinery that will throw away everything and throw a temper tantrum when it gets one-upped. "Oh Zero-Two beat me? I might as well just blow up shit to show he didn't win, and while I'm at it, screw the Humagears. They're also the reason he won so clearly I need to genocide the kind that have been helping me since the start. I'm not owned, I'm not owned!" It's honestly real great and I'm kind of hoping we get this eventually breakdown for Ark where it just goes full insane and angry at it's plans being ruined. |
