The fact of the matter is, Power Rangers is wildly successful right now, as it is. No one's going to mess with that status quo until it becomes unmarketable.
And when it comes to a massive demographic shift...if you're going to insist on looking at the slim chance of it happens, then you also need to analyse why. Why anyone who would want to buy the licence from Saban would want to go with that huge risk. And it is a huge risk. The 'adult demographic' you're talking about doesn't exist as a comprehensive whole. You have those who like things as they are, those who simply want series like RPM, or Lost Galaxy, and then there are those who want things like...that bootleg. But even ignoring that, there is a much larger reason that anything massively different than what we have now is next-to-impossible. And that is, that Power Rangers relies on toy sales to function, and adult fans buy far less toys then kids do, because everything has to be perfect if it will live on a shelf, whereas a kid is just happy to have their favorite character to play with. Less toys bought, and those toys needing to be a higher quality means a far narrower profit margin, if any at all. Which makes continued production of an 'adult' Power Rangers series impossible to sustain. Which is why that second idea is impossible. Producing two series simultaneously would be a massive drain - even if, as you say, the second were to be much smaller. Why bother with that drain if only one series would be a profit anyway? |

I'm with Chaos on this. I think you have a much better chance of another Sentai inspired show apart from Power Rangers aimed at an older demographic than an official PR show. Like the demographic difference between Sentai and Kamen Rider. Who knows - if the Ranger movie does major $$$ you might just get your wish - in the same way that there's a plethora of superhero shows now, you might get a more dramatic, American, Sentai inspired show because there's clearly an audience for it.

Who knows, Saban might actually try to make another Rider adaptation.
...What? It seems like the simplest/cheapest way to do pretty much exactly what you guys have said. They've got a working relationship with Toei and Bandai, so maybe they could finagle the rights for say... Wizard seems like a reasonable choice. Depends on whether that rumor I heard about the Ishinomori estate basically putting a kibosh on Saban ever getting their hands on Rider ever again have any substance. Note, it's not necessarily my wish, I'm just a gadfly/devil's advocate. Mostly when people start talking about the future in absolutes. |

Hell, they could even use one of those team-ups as a springboard, get the new series up and running by coasting on the already running decently.
Admittedly, they did something similar with Masked Rider debuting in Rangers originally and just searching YouTube should reveal how that ended up working. Dragon Knight is pretty decent, acting's awful but the plot's decent. It's basically like Guyver: Dark Hero in quality, which makes sense considering the crew involved. |
