I know we're talking about Heisei riders, but I think a noteworthy mention is Showa's Electronic Wave Humanoid Tackle. She died halfway through the series which prompted Stronger to undergo surgery for his Charge Up form, which is pretty insulting. To add salt to the wound, there were plans to revive her and make her an actual Kamen Rider, but those plans were scrapped because of Stronger's shorter episode count.
I really REALLY would've liked to see Kamen Rider Tackle.

I believe we'll get her when it's time for Stronger's adult remake. Also, given that I also believe Reiwa will give us the first female main rider (maybe in 10 or 20 years, but it will definitely happen) it would be great if her costume was based on a ladybug as a sign of respect.

Perhaps this explains Revice's overexposure of Sakura, but allegedly, Kinoshita did propose a female main Rider, but Toei laughed it off and said no.

A Woman Rider CAN sell, you just have to make her appeal to your majority audience. This is just an advertising problem(the sales$)and a male dominance Japanese thing(cultural idiocy). |

Speaking on that front, I still find it hilarious that Sakura's Driver was relegated to P-Bandai given how... basic it is.
It reeks of them not wanting to sell her toy normally because she's a girl. It would've given some balance to the absurd amount of P-Bandai Toys that dominates Revices toyline. Like every other P-Bandai release? I can get to some extent, the Libera Driver being P-Bandai no matter the reasoning is an absolute cowards move. |

Since we are talking about sales, the main thing here is to find the right audience. For example, Saber didn't catch on in Japan and the US, but was a big hit in China. And, if we recall its zero episode, the conclusion suggests itself that it was created for the Chinese market. Even the knights of Sword of Logos are much more like Armor Heroes than sentai.
Returning to female riders, it is clear that there are three ways to increase sales: 1) An androgynous suit is no different from a man's; 2) Something very girly, like a princess, that can attract fans of magical girls (Sailor Moon and Pretty Cure seem to have no sales problems); 3) Well, a very, very cool belt to make. Just the kind that everyone wants to buy. |

I think you guys are being too hard on Toei. The Japanese popularity poll showed that people generally don't care about Jeanne, so why would Bandai market her more when nobody's giving them any incentive? They're not cowards, they simply did what they thought was the most profitable.

Also I find that popularity thing a bit funny purely because like, she has her own TTFC Special alongside Hana. And like, to push further into that, it's not a prequel like Vail's nor is it a prologue to a movie like Birth of Chimera.
If that doesn't say that Jeanne and Aguilera have popularity as Riders, then I'm not sure what does. But anyway, I'll always go up to bat for Toei doing female Riders because like, it's clear that in recent years they've been getting better. However... if I see something off then I'm going to call them out on it. |
