The articulation is pretty good, and better in each subsequent line. Ex-Aid figures are a little lacking, but the Zero-One line has just about everything you could ask for on a figure of this size and cost. They're smaller than figuarts, around the 3 3/4 inch size. Here's Zero-One and OOO next to Gold Drive. (Sorry for the horrible phone pic)

Yeah, the figures are extremely good for the asking price; but unless you're super liberal about scale then they're not quite gonna work in a figuarts display, lol.

So, I'm looking around at stuff on HLJ, and they've got a listing for SHODO figures. Not being familiar with the term, I looked it up on the Wiki, and it says SHODO is a Showa-focused SO-DO subline. Now, I don't truck with Showa, but there're a few cool Heisei figs in that line, and some of them are still available online.
The thing is, though, what is the difference between SHODO and SO-DO figs, manufacturing-wise? They look to be the same scale, they're not too much more expensive, but I don't think they use stickers. Do they use stickers? The pictures I'm seeing online look fully painted. Is the articulation and scale the same? I don't want to get a SHODO Hibiki fig and then find out it doesn't mesh with my (theoretical) SO-DO figs. Anyone here pick up those SHODO figures? Thoughts on them? |

Left: SO-DO Right: SHODO SO-DOs mostly requires you to buy the base body and armor parts individually, some DIY required with the stickers and assembling the figure. SHODO is all-in-one, has some painting applied although not super detailed, minimal assembly required.

I have several SHODO (as well as Motion Revive) figures and I like them quite a bit. There are no stickers to deal with, plus there's Kaijin.

Okay, cool, thanks! To be clear, are the SHODO figs different molds than the SO-DO figs? Or are they the same mold with paint applied? Those two Kuugas look minorly different, so I'm a little curious.

Yep, they are different molds. The most significant difference being proportion, pelvis part, joints, and detail applications cause if you look closely the SO-DO Kuuga's Arcle as well as the lower part of the chest armor is straight-up a sticker. I will say though that this upcoming SO-DO Kuuga seems to have revised the joints and have made some upgrades here and there compared to previous SO-DOs. Now this is just personal opinion, but if you like to just play with the figures SO-DO probably is a good bet, if you wanna play but also have some appeal when displaying and not worry about stickers like BagJo said, SHODO probably is a better choice. SO-DOs have display appeal too but only if the stickers are applied neatly or else they look messy.

This... this is getting complicated. And potentially expensive. I really like the idea of a box of cheap figs, deep cuts from a show I like, and I'm okay putting them together and decorating them. But, like, I don't know that I'll be playing with them. It'll probably just be something I put on a shelf. So the SHODO stuff, higher-end versions of main suits and secondary Riders... I don't know, they look real good. Maybe I'll (and I can't believe I'm saying this, I have a sickness) do both? Not everything, but, like, getting the SHODO CycloneJoker and the SO-DO other forms for W, for example? If they're the same scale, I don't care that much if the articulation's different or some have different decos. I guess I'm going to have to try out the SHODO line, too? I don't know. I don't know! You guys are being too helpful! It's making it too easy to spend money! |
