I finished watching Hurricaneger earlier today. I don't think it was particularly good, but there was something about it I couldn't dislike. The cast is shallow, yet rather charming. The plot is a mess, yet not offensive. Shurikenger was... a choice. I think the parts of the show that was most interesting to me were how a lot of episodes deviated from typical Sentai formula and also the sheer weirdness of the Goraigers feeling like the got lost on the way to the Rider show they were supposed to be in. I give it a C.

I just finished the Hurri version of Return Of Thunder Parts 1 - 4.

I was a bit surprised by how the Thunder Rangers' dad was using the
Rangers to fight each other for an ultimate power.

I'm curious for Hurri's version of The Samurai's Journey Parts 1- 3.

In Hurri did Samurai Green Ranger travel back to the past to obtain
his powers?

I'm getting to that point. The Wind and Thunder Rangers had just
fused their mega zords together last I saw Hurri. (Episode 19)

Here I am, back to restore some quality to this thread with the last (for now) instalment of?

Androzani?s Tsukai Detour

And today, we?re concluding the Sempaiger Saga with?

Avataro Sentai Donbrothers meets Sempaiger.



?Once upon this year, in a land somewhere out there? lived 4 companions and one Avataro.?

Don Momotaro: A mysterious hero who appears whenever a Hitotsuki is born, so he can defeat it. He believes in strong bonds and in celebrating every moment of life.
Haruka Kito/OniSister: A high school girl who had a promising career as a mangaka, until she received the position of one of Don Momotaro?s companions, which was soon followed with her receiving accusations of plagiarism, forcing her to get a job as a waitress. She has been told that if she finds Momoi Taro and pledges her loyalty to him, then she can get her life back. So far, she has no leads.

Noto Layer: Another dimension that exists overlaid onto the Human World, being host to the Noto and Anoni, while also being linked to and affected by Hitotsuki.

Hitotsuki: A creature born from a human giving into their base desires and transforming accordingly through corrupted Avatar Data, the process of which disrupts the Noto Layer. If beaten by a Noto?s weapon, then they disappear, whereas Don Momotaro?s Zanglass Sword returns them to human. In either case, the corrupted Avatar Data becomes an Avataro Gear.
Anoni: Creatures that exist on the Noto Layer, that appear as humans to those who can?t see it. They appear to aid a Hitotsuki in battle.

Now it?s way too early for me to give a full opinion of the series, and I have NO idea who actually wrote or directed this, so let?s just get on with this thing.

We open with Haruka, having been captured by a group of Anoni and a Hitotsuki.



As she calls out for ?my hero? to appear and save her, enter Don Momotaro, carried by a group of servants (don?t ask where they come from, they just appear when he transforms).



Haruka asks if he is ?my hero?, a notion which the Don refutes.





He then bids Haruka stand back while he takes out his Donblaster and inserts an Avataro Gear.



Don Momotaro: Avatar Change!

And then Haruka says what you?re all thinking, complete with your (probable) reactions.



Don Momo then says the line (?Let?s make this intense?, for those not in the savvy) and proceeds to beat up the Anoni, while Haruka explains the Gokaigers for those who don?t know.



Don Momo then takes out another Gear, changing into Red Buster.

Once more, Haruka is your guide to the history of Super Sentai.



But then problems arise when Momotaro sights a weather vane shaped like a cockerel and freezes up.



But he quickly solves that problem by turning into KyoryuRed.

This time, Haruka has a question tacked onto her exposition.





But Don Momotaro doesn?t answer, instead transforming into ToQIchigou.





And because there?s a limit to how interesting I can make these fights sound, let?s just say it?s wash, rinse, repeat for AkaNinger through Zenkaizer.

At the end of this, the only opponent left standing is the Hitotsuki, who quickly makes his getaway.



Then Haruka asks who all of those guys were, which Momotaro answers with a clip from the Zenkaiger vs movie.



As the Hitotsuki is cornered, Don Momotaro explains the lesson of this short to Haruka.







Taking this to heart, Haruka takes her Donblaster and Avataro Gear out, transforming.

She then joins Don Momotaro in defeating the Hitotsuki, ending this short.





We then get a trailer for the main show, which I?ll translate (do not use the English subtitles on the video. They are terrible).

Don Momotaro: It?s a festival! A festival! A chance meeting may be due to a link from a past life. Come, my four companions! Dancing together links us together. This world is a paradise! I?ll blow all your worries away!

Haruka: Who is this guy?

Don Momotaro: Avataro Sentai Donbrothers!

Haruka: Don 1: Avataro. That?s the story.

Don Momotaro: Starting Sunday 6th March at 9:30. Let?s have fun! Fight! Fight!

Final thoughts: Not too much to it. This is a harmless fanservice short that doesn?t take itself too seriously. I?d totally recommend it.

I have watched Fiveman, which has filled me with deep, thought provoking questions such as "Am I allowed to give this show an A without people wanting to burn me at the stake?" and "How can anyone come up with an idea as terrible as the Five-kun dolls?"


Being a bit more serious though, this has stolen Ohranger's so-bad-its-good crown for me. It's so stupid! The writing is terrible! The acting is hamfisted enough to give bad 70s toku a run for its money! Truly it was the best kind of bad though, the kind where I usually was watching it with a grin. I'm not quiiiite crazy enough to give it an A on my tier list, but it gets a B+ from me for being very "entertaining".
