Ultraman Tiga didn't have toys in the US... you sure you're not thinking of Great? That aired on US television and had a toyline by Dreamworks (not the studio, naturally).
I think Gaia would be my favorite if I could watch it fully subbed, but of the series I have watched? Probably Max... but Nexus also has a close place in my heart too.

For me it was probably the American (or was it Australian?) only Ultraman Great. It had a surprisingly dark storyline throughout the series revolving around the "Ghutus" virus. THe lead character, Jack Shindo was pretty cool too.

My favorite is the first Ultra Man series. I was a kid when this aired in the seventies on my local UHF station (I'm sounding old now). I made sure that I didn't miss an episode after I got home from school.
I still remember the finale being such a heart breaker when Zetton defeated Ultraman. I have the entire DVD set of that series, and whenever I feel nostalgic, I'll throw an episode on. I've had a chance to sample the more recent versions like Mebius and got a chance to see one of the more recent movies with Belial and Zero. I may attempt to grab the DVD sets for Tiga as I heard that's a pretty decent series, plus the original makes a cameo in it!

Original Ultraman, but I'm biased- not only was it the first, but it's the only one I own a hard copy of (DVD set).

I've only seen two Ultraman show coincidentally one American and one Japanese; Ultraman Powered and the first Ultraman respectively. I thought they were both pretty decent except I wish the white pilot guy in Ultraman Powered would have shut up more.

I somehow forgot Powered and Great exist. I really enjoyed Great too. Unfortunately I've only completed the original, Tiga, and Nexus aside from Powered and Great. Hard to pick a favorite really for me. I think Tiga and Nexus rank highest on my list so far.

I'm old enough to have watched the first Ultraman series back when I was 5, and I never grew out of it (or just about anything else, actually). So the original is a sentimental favorite. As is Ultra Seven. And because I love the Showa series, I really loved Mebius as well. And I liked 'Towards the Future' back in the day because it was the first Ultra series aired in the US in many years...
From the Heisei series, my favorites are Nexus and Dyna. |
