Brave warrior, Shumi Red!
Graceful dancer, Shumi Blue! Sharp-eyed watcher, Shumi Black! Patient gardener, Shumi Green! Caring collector, Shumi Pink! Worldwide traveler, Shumi Gold! Passion is what makes life worth living! Jonetsu Sentai Shumiranger! The name means "Passion Squadron Hobby-ranger," five people whose great enthusiasm for their hobbies (kendo, classical music, birdwatching, gardening, stuffed animals and the Triathlon) gives them the power to stand up to an evil megacorporation that wants to steal peoples' passion and turn them into workaholics, with the ultimate goal of converting them into robots with no free will. That's right, while other sentai use the power of friendship or teamwork or bravery or whatever, the Shumirangers use the power of HOBBIES! It's less silly than it sounds, I swear, this story would emphasize how hobbies are a manifestation of people's passion and will to enjoy life. Red is a swordfighter, obviously, while Blue wields a baton and a dance-like fighting style, Black is a sharpshooter with a binoculars-themed gun, Green uses a sickle to cut down enemies, Pink has boxing gloves and the strength of a charging boar, and Gold fires air blasts from a bike pump and has super speed on land and in water. And much of their arsenal is given to them by other hobbyists they ally with, for example an indie mangaka is the one who first teaches them how to use their powers (which is also why their powers manifest as the usual sentai tropes like transformations and mecha), a model kit fan unlocks their mechas' ability to combine, and later a cosplayer's samurai garb becomes Red's super form. I admit these mismatched motifs were a challenge, but I actually quite like the resulting idea. Totally not a social commentary on Japan's infamous culture of overwork or on corporate greed in general |

I wonder what a Red/Blue/Black/White/Pink lineup would look like.
Maybe have Blue be female and White be male; blue Mermaid, white Pegasus. |

What about a tribe-style team a la Gransazers, 3 per tribe? Red = Flame Tribe. Blue = Aqua Tribe. Green = Storm (mix of wind/air and lightning/thunder) Tribe. Yellow = Earth Tribe. vs Black = Darkness/Poison Tribe + the Monsters of the Week (MotW) and the leader of the villains (true darkness). The 4 main tribes of Flame, Aqua, Storm and Earth can (in the last few episodes maybe) combine all their powers to one guy and turn him into the warrior of Light/Aether.
Their powers are derived from Holy Beasts and the elements they represent (according to their respective tribes) whereas for the villains it is derived from Unholy Beasts and the element they represent. Their powers are weakened in this modern era due to the difference in atmosphere so their mystical powers mixed with modern technology to sustain its abilities. |

Traveling mermaid, Kihei Blue! Laughing vampire, Kihei Black! Soaring pegasus, Kihei White! Piercing unicorn, Kihei Pink! Rider and steed, united for justice! Tokkan Sentai, Kiheiger! The name means "Charge Team Cavalry-ger," and despite the mythical motif this is a scifi series. They're a trio of bikers who race across a post-apocalyptic landscape (which just-so-happens to be mostly Standard Toei Action Locations) helping those in need and standing up to an evil warlord with an army of monsters. Despite the rough setting, the Kiheigers have a strong code of honor, almost like knights, and wear mythical beasts as coats of arms on the backs of their jackets in civilian form and on their helmets in ranger form. "Wait, trio of bikers?" I hear you ask. "But aren't there five rangers?" Well, that's because the bikes are rangers too! Let me explain: Red, Blue and Black used to be just normal bikers until they stood up to the warlord, who retaliated by mortally injuring Red and wrecking all three of their bikes. They were saved by a mad scientist, who rebuilt Red into a cyborg and their bikes into androids, White and Pink. So, the three human members can transform between civilian and ranger forms, but the two androids instead change between humanoid and motorcycle! Blue rides White and Black rides Pink. Red's bike takes a little more explaining: It's normally stored in small form inside his cyborg arm, he can deploy it to dual-wield with the team's standard weapon (think the Zenrin Shooter, Legend Ride Magnum or Vrocan Buggy/Gatling, except I kinda want it to be a sword instead of a gun, just gotta figure out how to make that work), or it can expand to full size for riding. And since that means they have some size-changing tech, let's borrow from Zenkaiger and have their mecha be White, Pink and Red's bike grown to giant size. And their final mecha can be an even giant-er bike for the combined robo to ride! I guess the goal here is to make up for all the bike action that's missing from Kamen Rider XD

I considered an alternate use of these colors and the mermaid and pegasus specifications, for a team focused on magic and "beautiful" mythical creatures (also ones stereotypical popular with girls), but the ideas I was coming up with for that felt like they belonged in Pretty Cure instead of Super Sentai. So instead I considered going for a mythical horse-and-rider theme, but then realized that real horses can't act much, so it would be better if the steeds could be played by suit actors. And from there, transforming bike-robots just seemed easier to make without looking creepy or ridiculous than horse-people. The post-apocalyptic setting was chosen to provide maximum excuses to film in quarries and other places that are good for bike action, and combining motorcycles and post-apocalypse make a biker aesthetic fit perfectly.

The name means "Godbeast Team Legacy-ger," and they're the heirs to five elemental tribes that have protected the world in secret since ancient times, each tribe blessed by the power of a Holy Beast: the Solar Lion, Ocean Turtle, Thunder Eagle, Mountain Ox and Shadow Cobra. For the longest time, the five tribes lived in harmony... until the king of the Darkness Clan decided he'd rather rule the world than protect it. He used manipulation and stealth attacks to turn the other clans against each other, leaving them too consumed with infighting to resist him, before launching open attacks on the populace with his shadow monsters. But two heroes stand against this evil: The princess of the Flame Clan, who received a vision from the Solar Lion imploring her to save the world, and the Darkness King's own son, who broke away from the clan in disgust at what they'd become. Gathering heirs from the other three clans who still believe in peace, and combining ancient magic with advanced technology, they vow to restore the balance and save the world! When the battle gets especially dire, they are joined by a mysterious warrior of light, who traveled back in time from a future where the Darkness Clan rules all and changing the past is the only hope left. He's cryptic and secretive, afraid of causing a paradox if he reveals too much, but sometimes slips up and refers to Red as "mother" or Black as "father"!

You mean Shinjyu? That's for the right slot. The "Sei" part is from Seibutsu, for the middle slot.

Red, Yellow, Green, Blue, Pink, with Orange and Purple also joining later. Special feature: only shoes, belts, gloves and visors have their own custom colors, when most of the suits are gray. And when they get a team power-up, a color reversal happens.
