Those which change. Those which never change. And those that don't want to change.
Figure-Rise Standard Shin Kamen Rider I went to my local comic book store in search for FRS Blade and ended up with Shin Kamen Rider. The kit commands a premium price tag but the figure is rather basic. With only a pair of fist hands and a pair of chopping hands, and very limited articulation, you're left with just a handful of poses. The only other accessory is an alternative scarf. I can't deny the end result is a very good looking figure. There are two shades of green, a subtle leather grain texture on the black parts, and it even uses clear parts for the "tears" of the helmet. In terms of stickers, they are mostly for the belt. I painted everything and only used the stickers for the mask sensor and markings on the back of the helmet. A mixture of Gundam EX White and Metallic Pink for paint behind the eyes. Gundam EX Silver on the belt, Metallic red for detail on the belts, and solid black and Gundam panel line marker for various other details. Metallic grey for the chest zipper and tiny bolts on the armor panels. I also used fake eyelashes to replace the hair piece. There are 4 layers of eyelashes glued to a modified hair piece. It's the first time I did anything like this for a model and it was fun, if a bit silly. I also sanded all over the red scarfs to remove some shine then added brown panel liner. I might hit them with some matte spray to give it a further fabric look. After I saw Shin Kamen Rider in the theater, I was inclined to buy the figuart but I'm glad I went with the model kit. It looks a bit more screen accurate and the hair was fun to do. If you are interested in this kit, I hope you can find it on sale in the future because the current price of $52 is too steep for what you get. It's nice but doesn't compare to the other Kamen Riders in the line. Now to find Blade...

Thank you! And no, it premiered at a single showing in New York a week ahead of the general release.

I recently discovered that there was a very short-lived SIC line of figures for Sentai. Known as Ranger Strike Solid and based on artwork from the card game Ranger Strike, 6 small statues were released as blind boxes for a vol 1. There would never be a vol 2.
In addition to these designs, there were metallic variants of each. I took a chance and ordered a blind box from ebay and luckily ended up with the one I actually wanted, Dekaranger Robo! (I also would have really loved Sun Vulcan). Anyway the figure was very sticky having been sealed in its bag since 2004. After a nice soapy scrub and a fresh coat of paint: It's a pretty awesome figure with lots of detail. There was some strange paint choices on the original figure. For example, light pink around the sirens to simulate a glow effect and a very strange choice in green for the Pat Trailer. This is the artwork its based on: The idea of an SIC Sentai line is fascinating and it's too bad we never got more of these figures. Imagine what a Gokaiger or Ryusoulger could look like in SIC form...

Figure-Rise Kamen Rider Blade and Wizard are complete.
Blade is nice and detailed with great parts separation and minimal stickers. This is probably one of the best renditions of the Blade suit as the Figuart is woefully out of date. Most of the paint I did for this figure was smaller details and a grey wash over the silver parts to make them look a little more used. Wizard is a gorgeous looking figure but perhaps the most difficult FRS kit to date. All the gems require foil stickers over faceted parts recessed into cavities. So many stickers that go onto curved surfaces and intricate details on the belt and armor if you choose to paint. The red stickers that go underneath the robe are very interesting as they are made from a type of vinyl which is much stretchier than the typical paper stickers. This stuff is a nightmare to apply and Bandai must have known because large portions of the stickers are meant to layer on top of each other. Luckily, if you wrinkle the stickers or mess up a little, it will be hard to see and honestly looks fine as it's meant to look like cloth. In the end it gets the job done. So there we are. With the release of Drive around the corner, we only have 2 more Heisei riders to complete the set, both of which I'm extremely excited for.

Finally tracked down the SO-DO Revice Rider Machine. It's ugly, big, and I hate it but I'm committed to collecting these bikes. They usually go for pretty cheap once the season they are in ends.
I painted a bunch of parts and then just ended up using the stickers anyway. The Ptera Genome bike in the show actually looks like it's stickered/decaled so it works out. Still waiting on the Geats bike... and one more shot of all the Reiwa riders because I recently acquired Vice and it seems like depictions of Revice will be of both of them going forward. Vice is weirdly large. Next up I'll be doing SO-DO Fourze.

Switch on youth 'cause space is here!
SO-DO Kamen Rider Fourze Well my SO-DO Fourze had quite a number of QC issues. The new SO-DO Chronicle waist articulation is a ball joint and mine was very very crooked. It wasn't fixable without breaking the joint and re-gluing it. Additionally, the left antennae on Fourze's helmet was very belt. It was bent at almost a right angle. I fixed it with hot water the best I could. It kind of looks like Fourze is unsure about something  Anyway, lots of tiny paint details for all the colors on his belt. I used a pencil for panel lining all the lines on his body. Overall nice figure, though his head seems a little on the small side. I didn't pick up the accessory pack but now I wish I did for the true rider kick. Has Fourze ever been depicting doing a rider kick without the drill and rocket?

I'm caught up on SO-DO Chronicle releases so here's a picture of all them together with Grand Zi-O.
Technically Decade is not a Chronicle figure, he's from the Zi-O Ride plus line. There are huge differences between the early figure and the newer ones. You can slowly see them get better and better, but I kind of like the leg articulation from the older figures like Kuuga and OOOs. Also worth noting that my SO-DO stickers have finally begun peeling. I store them in mostly airtight resealable bags but while posing Grand Zi-O some of his stickers fell off and the adhesive has completely dried up.

I have asked before for painting over black plastic and make some try on a runner from a model kit (pla-act 03 : oda) on a black runner.
I tried to sand a bit, either it need to be sanded for a quite a long time but the yellow I tried didn't seem to apply that well even after that. To be true, it would need perhaps 3 or 4 layers to may be look acceptable (but not even sure really) I am still thinking about getting a primer but I am lost on what I should take (HLJ has a water primer either white or grey available) but I don't know for sure if will compatible with the gundam marker applied by brush. On another hand I wonder if the parts has to be washed when you want to apply a gundam marker I think I read everything about it, what do you recommend ? Thanks in advance for any help on my problems |
