I felt that Shada was the right way to end Series XVII and would
have lead to the 5th Doctor's regeneration.

Seeing it uncut rather than as Parts 1- 6 took me 3 days.

Over all I actually liked Shada.

The swap from live to anime back and forth took some
getting used to. I get why that happened.

It was still good to finally see a lost mini
series.

I'm watching the 3rd Doctor on Tubi.

What was the real reason Tom Baker refused to return for "The Five Doctors"?

One account I saw suggests that it was a personal decision cause it was too soon after the change from his "Fourth Doctor" to Pete Davidson's "Fifth Doctor", but that feels a little too easy; an oversimplified cop-out.

It should be noted that publicity photos for the serial exist, but Tom Baker's refusal meant that they had to rely on a life-size wax mockup of Tom Baker's "Fourth" from Madame Tussaud's!

I think there was some dissatisfaction with his proposed role in the story. There was at least one draft where he was working with the villain. Also, and by his own admission, he was just really difficult to work with at the time.

I was able to get an NTSC R1 set on order for the 12 new episodes of Doctor Who.

Usually as it's a Disney + series we don't see a DVD release.

What happened with Doctor Who to allow this?

Interested in listening to some of the Big Finish Audio Dramas, but I'm a little indecisive when it comes to finding one to start with.

Recommendations are appreciated.

So a quick disclaimer - because of how the fandom has grown, a lot of the canon of Big Finish classics are from the early days, generally before 2010, when there was less classic who media (and less Big Finishes in general) and reputation was easier to spread. Fortunately, since the first 50 Main Range audios are free on Spotify, its also easy to listen to them!

The usual best ones to check out for each Doctor are

- Spare Parts, starring the Fifth Doctor and Nyssa stumbling upon the dying planet Mondas, which went on to inspire 2 different Cyberman stories

- Jubilee, a prototype/different take on TV story "Dalek", where the Sixth Doctor and original companion Evelyn Smythe stumble into a British Empire overtaken by Dalekmania

- The Chimes of Midnight, generally held up as one the best Eighth Doctor story starring Paul McGann, as he and companion Charley Pollard stumble into a murder mystery in a haunted house.

- Colditz, where the Seventh Doctor and Ace are trapped in a POW camp, racing against time to stop Nazis reverse engineerig their technology and winning WW2.

Other personal recommendations I can make if you want are "The Church and the Crown", "Seasons of Fear", "Singularity", "The Holy Terror", "The Fearmonger", "The Council of Niceae", and "Arrangements for War.

If you want something more modern, I have heard very strong things about their recent Eleventh Doctor Chronicles range, starring impressonist Jacob Dudman as The Eleventh Doctor with original companion Val Lockwood. Failing that, I can recommend the 10th Doctor Dalek Universe series, which is a fun throwback of Tennant into the world of 60s Dalek stories.
