I absolutely loved Shinkenger & I've tired my best to avoid Samurai, but from what little I've seen of it. The show actually makes me angry. It's just horriable all around.
Now that might be cuz it's the first Sentai show I've seen to be converted to Power Rangers after I've watched it. It's making me learn really fast, that I may very well be a Sentai Snob. |

Normally, I'm not like that & when I say Sentai Snob. I don't mean the "ZOMG, this sucks & is ruining Shinkenger" I mean it as, maybe I'm just the type that should not watch PR shows anymore. Loved it as a Kid/Teen, not so much now. |

Well, I'm a bit of a Super Sentai purist, but I was hoping to find something good out of Power Rangers Samurai. The problem is that they are trying too hard to be faithful to a storyline that is just culturally impossible to adapt to a Western environment. The whole samurai chivalry element works in a Japanese show, but to have Americans act it out, it doesn't make sense. I have to ask again: why are these Americans Samurai in the first place?
Also, exactly what does Mentor Ji do in the show? He just isn't Hikoma Kusakabe, who was practically the backbone of the Shinkengers. Oh yeah, watering down the main characters also killed the show. Takeru is a bit stiff, but that's just him being the leader of the Shinkengers; Jayden just doesn't seem interested in the role. Chiaki is a dick, but that's what we love about him in Shinkenger; Mike, on the other hand, is just a dork. Kevin being a former Olympic swimmer killed the punchline of the bride kidnapping episode. Emily is just being too blonde. And Antonio... he just has no ambition like Genta does.

Cue modern day, and with the Nighloks on the loose again the origami animals wake up in the hands of the five current owners of symbols. Ji shows up claiming he's been waiting the arrival of the 'chosen Samurai' and THEN they team go off to learn to be samurai. Okay, its a little fan-fictiony. But I like it.

The toys are fine, well the megazord was a let down for me. And the show is really meh still not as bad as Goseiger at least. I'm just now watching it for Paul Schrier and that's really it.

I've wondered that myself. An idea I had was if the show started the way it did with the ancient Samurai using the ranger powers, but after Xandred's defeat the origami symbols become relics of the past, bouncing from museums and private collections over the years. During this time the symbols don't turn into the origami animals once.

I gota say Samurai is not bad it's just boring really really boring. My main problem is that I did already see Shinkenger and a lot of the main plot can be substituted easily for Shinkenger, though I do I like the changes made with dekker and daiuy between there Japan counterparts, I'm still watching PRS to support the show but god I hope it get better also just something I found entrusting my acting level is the same a blue and I've only done less than a year of highschool drama ya F blue.... and the yellow green romance subplot.

I am not a huge PR fan, but I have loved a few of the series. Lightspeed and timeforce are good shows. Samurai is just awful IMO. It is near a word for word copy of Shinkenger. Some PR in the past have been pretty close story wise to the sentai they are taken from, but Samurai is scene for scene in some cases.

From what I've seen of Samurai, it isn't bad. Sure, it has some cheesy moments and lines, but most PR series have those.
