so i don't know if someone has made this type of thread before but i thought it would be a neat idea to talk about toku anime and toku inspired anime.
with the ultraman series having animated series and movies, official and unofficial, (if you know, you know) Garo having animes and the kamen rider series having a few animated series gamera had the rebirth series, heck Even the big G godzilla had animated series and even been in a crossover movie it seems the only one of the Big 5 toku series to not have a anime is super sentai. back in 2005 Tatsunoko had there own toku inspired OVA series in Karas (if you haven't seen that go find it and watch it) so in closing what toku anime and toku inspired animes did you like and what toku series would you like to see as animes. editor notes: i would like to mention that french animation studio ZAG Entertainment was working with Saban to make a Power rangers movie called power rangers origins but it was cancelled. I watched Fuuto PI, the comedy short Kamen Rider SD 1993, The Ultraman 1979 and Ultra Kids 30 Million Light Years in Search of Mother. To one degree or another, I liked everything.

Seeing Fuuto PI these days really has me wishing Kamen Rider Spirits becomes a thing.

There's Gorenger for starters, and throughout the 80s and 90s some shows would get a one-shot manga as part of a magazine and stuff iirc. The Dekaranger and Magiranger summer movies were adapted into manga, that I remember.

I watched the Kamen Rider SD manga and Samurai Flamenco for the more obvious ones. I think it's more common for anime to have toku references than be entirely toku, for example Dragon Ball Z with the Ginyu Force and Great Saiyaman

It appears that Ryusoulger adapted the story of its Final Stage Show as a Toei Tokusatsu Fan Club exclusive manga because the show was canceled at the time due to COVID.

No one mention titles like The Guyver, Devilman, Boah, and Zetman yet?

As for my picks, aside from the well-known ones like Saint Seiya and Samurai Trooper, I would have to go with these for now.
Astro Fighter Sunred: Need I say more? ![]() Bad guys who try to defeat the red ranger of a disbanded sentai team attempt to attack only to get beat up and scolded every time. Honestly, the real title should be Ganbare Florshiem at this point. Most notable toku alumni would be the voice behind Florshiem's leader Vamp, the guy with the orange helmet and purple gown, Louis Yamada LIII of comedy duo Hige Danshaku who played Shuichiro Amachi, Nozomu's dad, in Goseiger. Sonic Soldier Borgman: Three cyborg henshin heroes, Ryo, Chuck, and Anise, who work as elementary school teachers as a front fighting monsters, with character designs by Kia Asamiya of Silent Moebius fame. (Also did some X-Men issues back in the 2000s, I believe.) Ganbarugar: The second of the Eldran series which is the most toku-inspired. This one in particular though is unique in that there are three only and they have to wear sentai-ish costumes because for some reason the bad guys cursed them and if their identities are out they will turn into dogs because of said curse. ![]() The way their robots are deployed is very Thunderbirds-ish too, which is cool. Shinesman: A sentai-inspired henshin hero team composed of white-collar workers with an interesting color palette, Red, Moss Green, Gray, Sepia, and Salmon Pink. I love how they throw their business cards like shurikens. ![]() Guyver 1989: This version I think is the best one, though I have no hate for the 2005 adaptation. Brave Command Dagwon: The 7th Brave Robo show that HEAVILY is inspired by tokusatsu throughout its run. You have henshin heroes, giant robots, alien invaders, and the episode titles are a direct nod to Ultraman. Reideen: The Superior: As the 90s reimagining of the 70s robot anime Reideen, it is about a 5-member pop boy band that transform and fight monsters, and aired the same year as Dagwon. Here, Reideen is more of their transformed state and the reimagining of the titular robot from the 70s is a Daijinryu-like entity called God Reideen for a lack of comparison. Their rivals are another group of Reideens who are a 5-member rock boy band. They start off as a one-side sentai-ish team at first but later go into Heisei Kamen Rider shenanigans when the rival Reideens pop up years before it was ever a thing. The story is nothing special, but the henshin hero aspect was interesting. * I originally had a reference video clip here just like the rest, but felt some of the scenes with rapid flashing lights were too much so got rid of it.
