Light, Speed, Go!
More Power Rangers Super Megaforce toys are making their way slowly but surely to retail. The latest of these figures is the Lightspeed Rescue Cycle! ** Note - This set is nearly identical to the previously released Lost Galaxy Cycle. So much of the review aspect will be the same. This vehicle is inspired by the original Lightspeed Cycle from Power Rangers Lightspeed Rescue. The Super Megaforce version is a bit more simplistic in design though. The cycle mysteriously features a removable head. Much like the lion's head from the Lost Galaxy Cycle it pops right off on a couple tabs but it can't be combined with any other Zords in any discernible way. The exception being one of the other 2 bikes released (Galaxy/Time Force). You can actually swap these head components out between any of the bikes though the point of this has yet to be revealed. Speculation is that the 4" & 5" Super Mega Rangers may be able to use them as weapons. The Lightspeed Rescue Cycle shares some minor design cues with the original and even though that's the vehicle it's based on, that's where the similarities end. Included with this release are a Red Lightspeed ranger Key and a Super Mega Green Ranger mini-figure. The mini-figure is posed in the permanent cycle riding stance seen here, so it can't do too much on it's own. The Cycle features an interactive Ranger Key gimmick like all the other Zords & Vehicles as well. In this case you pull back the bike on it's rear wheels which builds up tension. Insert the Ranger Key, turn it to the right, and the bike launches forward on the built up tension. It's actually pretty fun and creative and adds some needed play value to the set. Unfortunately the combined modes with this vehicle leave a bit to be desired. Intended to be used in conjunction with either the Time Force Cycle or Lost Galaxy Cycle, this one won't do you much good on it's own. Because there are no moving parts in the cycle it can't become a standard leg. So without two of them, the leg combo is a no go. When you do have two like what we have here, you get a vaguely centaur like mode that's rather short. When you use a pair of them as arms you get a wide stance lanky bruiser type mode. As with Mystic Dragon, Delta Runner, & Zeo Racer, no official name is given for the combinations created when using the various Legendary Cycles. Seeing as these will likely only be toy combinations there isn't much possibility of these actually being named. Just an FYI to people. My Lightspeed came with the Lost Galaxy Cycle's instructions.

Strangely, the green looks better than Red does.
Wait, do you have Red and Green twerkin each other? Or at least bumpin butts?

Yikes. The only redeeming features to these bikes are the keys and the key gimmick (which, I admit is pretty bad ass. Kinda reminds me of Penny Racers.)
Their Zord integration is painful. And that "balancing" pic.... tee hee hee. |

Whoa, that's how the bikes become legs? Didn't the Samurai ones at least fold down or something?

In some case if your just getting the keys there no need to get the bike for said key due to the ranger key packs

The Disc Cycles did. They folded down slightly to give it more height, were thicker, had paint apps (I almost said better ones but these things don't have any, do they), and actually made the Megazord look better not worse.

Thanks for the arm pics Den-O!
Somehow, I think the Time Force/Lightspeed Rescue combo will be funnier. If only because hey, the colors'll match!

If the front wheel rotated back into the bike and the front part (lion head/lasers/whatever) was moved down, then this would make a much better arm. The leg mode is horrendous though...why can't they make these things fold into a standard leg shape?
Other than that, I think the bike looks quite nice on its own. I'm kinda tempted to buy one to paint and fix up. |
