I use those two because those are adaptions of Japanese franchises and have become their own IP. Not to mention, they combine unrelated shows with each other long before MMPR did.

We haven't heard anything new happening with the show for over a year now. Not during Power Ranger Month last year, not after Cosmic Fury ended, nothing. Hasbro is no longer making any new merch with them licensing to other companies instead and Playmates now holding the master license. And with all the other licenses they've had that they shelved, they never made any official announcement, just let it die, like with Overwatch.
Is it impossible that the show comes back under Hasbro one day? No, but it's very, very unlikely. Based on that, I see five separate possibilities: Option 1): Continue to adapt Sentai to maintain life in the franchise, regardless of the opinion of Sentai purists. Option 2): Produce an animated show based on established canon, which could serve to answer long-standing questions and retcon continuity errors. This could be an anthology show or a completely new team with Sentai-like inspirations. Option 3): Produce a movie franchise, be it based on established show canon or the 2017 Lionsgate Movie or a completely separate continuity. Option 4): Produce a separate live-action reboot show that isn't connected to the Entwistle Reboot. Option 5): Make the difficult decision to sell the franchise to a prospective buyer. Also part-and-parcel with someone who makes Hasbro an offer when they aren't actively looking to sell, but they opt to commit cause it makes "good business sense". Playmates now owns the master toy license, but the rights to the show itself still belong to Hasbro under eOne.
In other words, the show is officially over, and Sentai purists everywhere are sure to rejoice. Last edited by KaiserBlue; 04-22-2024 at 10:53 PM.. |

Well MMPR doesn't really scream reboot tbh, it's just familiarity.
MMPR was the height of 90's popularity and mainstream, there's a reason it's gotten so much push. It's because of the current climate of business. You've got to make higher and higher amounts of money. So to people in the toy business they assume only MMPR can do that because that was the brand at it's most mainstream. Which basically runs counter to the argument earlier of "Well Hasbro should just do their own thing to move on and not rely on the Sentai". How do you expect them to move on when the big money maker is MMPR which is tied to Zyuranger? Will say this is an interesting move and I'm curiously optimistic on the future. But it very much is telling that well... Hasbro really had no idea on what to do with the brand. They've only really had two series to their name which were handled oddly in some aspects, have been spinning their wheels on that one rumored reboot, and the toys have been lacking in a couple of aspects despite some fun parts. |

Not that it's bad or good, but this has me further convinced Hasbro might potentially move away from actually designing and producing things themselves and reshape itself to being a major licensor of IPs leaving the main work to other companies who would like to do it instead. With that said, if they are able to license stuff to skilled companies it actually might not be such a bad thing. Heck, maybe we will get that S.H.Figuarts of Titanium Ranger or Proplica MMPR Communicator after all. And capsule toys of MMPR keychains which includes the Bulkwich.
I wouldn't even mind if they re-release the old Shinkenger figuarts but with the optional head sculpts of the PR Samurai actors and later release figures of the megazord suits that they wear in the show.

I am definitely of the opinion that this means that, at the least, Sentai adaptations are over.
I think Hasbro wants to associate as little as possible with the Sentai for some reason (it could be business partner conflicts or them just wanting to try and do their own thing, which I think Cosmic Fury points towards), which is a problem because the entire reason Power Rangers works is that the half of the show is already done for you. If the reboot has been put on hold or abandoned, it’s likely (in my opinion) because they’ve realized it would cost too much for the likely financial returns on a brand that has been waning in popularity for over two decades. I didn’t really watch Power Rangers much anymore, but I always really loved seeing how they adapted the stories and used the costumes (and obviously the terrible names they gave the monsters), so this happening is kind of depressing even if I saw it coming a mile away. Something like Cosmic Fury isn’t interesting to me because it’s not really an adaptation, it’s just something new with mech fights from Kyuranger and worse production values, so a full reboot isn’t going to get the interest of someone like me either. |

And now it's been announced that the upcoming last issue of the "Darkest Hour" event in the comics will be "the end of the 8 year saga."

http://ukiyaseed.weebly.com/ukiyasee...-after-8-years May not be Playmates-related news, but it is funny how we're getting so many question-raising announcements after a particularly arduous dry spell. Oh, well. At least Playmates will have at least eight years of comic material to work with cause despite the efforts of the Lightning Collection, neither Bandai of America nor Hasbro really took full advantage of the comic-related designs. Solar Megazord? "Shattered Grid" Mega Megazord? Then again, Saban and Bandai never did much in the way of cross-promotion with the comics of the '90s either! At least not enough for me to remember anyway, save for a Turbo Movie comic I lost years ago. |
