Sad news for those hoping to see the return of Rocky, who played the second Red Ranger in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers and the Blue Ranger in Power Rangers Zeo.
On his personal Facebook, Steve Cardenas posted the following: The offer was too low and there's not a lot of character development. Just basically going to be in the background as an extra. I would've loved to do it but I could possibly take that amount of time away from my business for that little amount of money. I'm sorry but I believe that it's them that's letting the fans down because they want to get away with paying too little. I hope you understand. The message was posted here. What do you guys think? Is Steve Cardenas in the right for rejecting to appear for a cameo appearance? Or is he letting the fans down by wanting more money than Saban Brands was willing to offer? Let us know! Thanks to raz for the heads up!

Well, it's unfortunate that we won't see him, but he does state that he was gonna have a nothing role, so...I guess he's in the right.

I am disappointed to be honest. He missed out on the 10th Anniversary and has now chosen not to be included in the 20th Anniversary. You have people like Jason David Frank, stating he'd do Super Megaforce for a $1 because he wants to make his fans happy, yet Steve Cardenas believes that he's being paid too little to appear as an extra for an episode.
I don't know. I just don't feel it. I'm sorry. I think Steve is cheating the fans on this one.

Honestly? I see this as no big loss. Would him being in SMF really have made the show better? He couldn't make the shows he was actually in better.

I'm sad he won't be returning. And I'm sad to know it's because of money. I mean, if Saban is willing to foot the bill to fly you out and put you up and pay your meals as well as pay you for showing up then pay you to fly home ... how is it that it's still not enough money? Especially if you're just as a cameo, what do you want, like full-on guest-star credits and money? I dunno.

I don't know. I just don't feel it. I'm sorry. I think Steve is cheating the fans on this one. He had impossible shoes to fill when he became the Red MMPR. But during Zeo his character became likable, though he was re-written in to a comedy-relief role. I'm sad he won't be returning. And I'm sad to know it's because of money. He's given a chance to at least reprise the character that let people know who he was in the acting industry- even if his appearance is a small cameo that borderlines the concept of an extra, so what? That's camera time right there, and added publicity. Seeing as how he runs a martial arts place like JDF, which should have a numerous amount of child students, he should go for the job. Would benefit his business, and give his fans a chance to see him again, even if it doesn't have the monetary gain he desires.

Steve has a business he runs primarily on his own, while JDF's can run it self for most likely short periods at a time. If the costs were equal and he was making the same money (and it doesn't sound like he would be) then I myself wouldn't put it as a priority.

It does open the question of what exactly was Saban offering to pay, and what expenses was he willing to pay. I mean ... if Saban is footing the bill for travel, lodging, and expenses, and then giving money for an appearance on top of it, is Steve being a dick by saying "I deserve more" or is he making a legit business decision of "I will lose money by not being at my school"?
I say we give him a pass on this one. |

It's a shame to see Steve Cardenas not returning for the anniversary, but I respect his decision. There are numerous variables about his business and financial situation that we don't (and shouldn't) know about. Any decisions made on that basis are sound to me.
Actors who say that they would work for free or little pay are out of their minds. They have bills to pay too. Last edited by Rider Strike; 05-03-2013 at 01:11 AM.. |
