I understand that Bandai basically mandated this crossover to promote their DX Robo Universe, so it would be unfair for me to blame the Boonboomger staff. Honestly, I can't even call it the worst episode (still 20). The part with Genba and Sakito is pretty good, with Sakito bringing up his lonely childhood to scold Genba for throwing away his bonds instead of cherishing them. While I'd been a little concerned that the increased focus on Genba would subtract from Sakito, I appreciate how the plot is making smart use of both of them.
This would've been a good episode, if the rest of it wasn't so infuriating to me. I felt like I had a safe bet on Shison staying away from this due to his popularity, but somehow even that was a loss. Toei must've spent a ridiculous amount of money on getting him back. I seldom speak in defense of Taiya, but even I think comparing him to Right is going too far. He's more like a mix of Ukiyo Ace and Lucky. Now I just want to rewatch the Go-On Red crossover.

Honestly, this episode felt like a step-down from the Gokaiger one. If they’d kept the ToQger focus on Akira, or somehow negotiated to give Shison some interaction with the others out of suit, it would feel less random. Hat first option seems especially plausible, since ToQRokugou’s usual suit actor was portraying Ichigou in this episode.

From what I'm hearing he only had a couple hours to record for suit only lines but really wanted to try and make an out of suit appearance since he loved the role that much.
So they managed to make it happen in one take after they filmed all his ADR. Which you know what? I find that admiring so I'm glad they were able to get that one scene in at the end. |
