That was... pretty embarrassing to watch. It's consistent with Ninja Steel's generally bad writing but it still made me groan every two seconds. The themes are all over the place and the degree to which they knocked off from Shattered Grid is blatantly unsubtle. Weird continuity notes are dropped with no regard for how it works with the story or the characters we've followed and the script never manages to match up with the visuals. 'Lord Drayven' has apparently got enough footsoldiers to invade every universe, but a team of 16 Ranges is able to take care of it no problem. They make a robot Tommy and then go nowhere with it other than a very odd Dino Thunder Black vs. Tommy fight which had a lot of confused messages and conflicting themes to the point you can't decipher even any basic meaning from it. As always it's extraordinarily empty and hollow.
I will admit that it was pretty nice to see they apparently have the budget now to do their own CGI Zords and giant fights, and I'm pretty sure I noticed no Ninninger footage in the episode. That alone is an impressive feat, but it's not used for anything worthwhile. Power Rangers has used stock footage before to tell much better stories; if this sort of episode is all new footage amounts to, then it's ultimately pointless. I really hope Hasbro gets in some decent writers because this is getting really, really unbearable. RPM was almost 10 years ago and we've had nothing good since.

Has it gotten better? In certain ways. But yeah. Edit, never mind. Just found/watched. Wow....it's called what happens when the Wesley Crusher of PR comes back and makes everyone look like they're asleep. Because someone really REALLY likes JDF in the writers pit. Solid 3/10 just due to the fact that it was way too quick. But hey, new toy on the horizon with a master morpher. Really makes me wistful that they would release a complete selection type of morpher with all the clips.

The cringe-worthiness from the last four years or so is definitely there, but comparing this episode to something like say...Super Megaforce it's like trying to compare apples and oranges.
If nothing else, you can tell that they actually put effort into this episode. And when they actually put effort into something. |

Given what a nightmare it must've been to put this together with all of the hasbro/saban transitional stuff, I'm really glad with what they put together. I really liked Lord Draven as a villain too.
The best part, however, was making the comic books canonical to the TV shows too. |

They're fighting against time and want to incorporate the ninja steel team as the center heroes and heroines make things worst. For a prime time release, you expect a one hour special that cater to the older fans, but we're getting speed up one liners one after another along with all those annoying catchphrases. It's still an A compares to the rest of recent neo Saban era episodes I've seen. I don't know if jdf improv some of his lines, but it makes him egoistic as heck.

If nothing else, you can tell that they actually put effort into this episode. And when they actually put effort into something. Was this episode better at "tickling the nostalgia funny bone better than Super Megaforce"? Yes! Are there continuity discrepancies similar to "Forever Red"? Yes! Should any discrepancies be frowned upon or viewed as potential story material in the future? You decide! Does Neo-Saban have writing issues? Yes! Does "Robo-Tommy" get a little cringe-worthy with his "evilness"? Yes! Did Lord Draven make a lot of sense in his planning? Best Answer in the form of question: Does any villain ever make any sense? Were the production values and visuals a key part of why this worked? Yes! Does the concept of a "Master Morpher" make for a good addition to P.R. Arsenal Concepts and a good toy concept worth exploring in the future? Most definitely! Was the battle against the "Robo-Ranger Clones" slightly more fulfilling than "Legendary Battle"? Best Answer in the form of a question: Why would you even ask that? Should the Sudarso Brothers have had more time together? Yes! Should this have been longer in length so that wouldn't have to shove too much in a short amount of time? Yes, and that might a good reason for most of the complaints! Do I think they used Ninninger Movie footage since they used the Ninninger Movie villain? Yes! Am I upset that Dinomaru was not adapted? Kinda! Do I think that the Falconzord was a good callback? YYYEEESSS!!!!!!!! Is this the second-time that the Falconzord has appeared in CGI since the OG Movie? Yeah, I think so! Despite its participation in the battle against Hate Master and Hydro Hog, is this the first time, in 23 years (since Season 3), that the Falconzord, with additional Ranger but no additional Zord assistance, directly destroyed a monster/villain onscreen? Yeah, I think so! Was Tommy a very central character to this event? Yes, but you kinda should've expected that! Is J.J. the same as the son at the end of the Zeo Holiday Episode? Only time will tell! Why were Draven and "Robo-Tommy" at his house with no sign of J.J.? No good answers! If Tommy has a "Master Morpher", do other Rangers who have used multiple powers have something similar? Good question for future stories! Was I as giddy as a clam when this first aired and getting loud enough to attract attention from other people? Yep!!! Do I agree with Brody about it being "epic"? Yep!!! Do I want T.J.'s line about being familiar with Lord Draven to be explored in the future, possibly involving a necessary ret-con? Yep!!! Have I made this commentary unnecessarily long? Also yep!!! |

Do I view the Tommy vs. "Robo-Tommy" as a nod to Gavan vs. Gavan Bootleg from the Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger vs. Uchuu Keiji Gavan Movie? Yep!!! |

“Return of the Green Ranger” was season two, not three.
