So I saw Genm's God Maximum Mighty henshin and I thought that pose looked a bit familiar. So I did some poking around on the internet and realised that his henshin pose is supposed to be a reference to the Abhayamudrā, or the 'gesture of fearlessness' prominent in Eastern religions signifying reassurance of safety and divine protection. Please excuse the poor quality images.
https://i.imgur.com/9XO6ZWd.png https://i.imgur.com/0qCp9JZ.png As for the pose in question: https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/18...g?v=1572134754 Interestingly enough, Genm's pose is reversed and his arm outstretched rather than crossed. Whatever this means is beyond me, maybe signifying that his 'goodhood' isn't genuine or something? To be honest I'm not even sure if the pose is to reflect the Abhayamudrā due to my lack of knowledge on the mudras (ritualistic gestures) but considering the meaning behind the pose, along with Kuroto's arrogant nature and god complex, I can't help but think this isn't a coincidence. |
For a second while he's holding the Gashat (just before putting it in), it's between his two palms in a praying pose as well. Just... a lot going on here
|
I realized that the Three Duke Orgs from Gaoranger have been influenced by 3 Buddha monkeys, but are the opposites. Shuten is the opposite of "See No Evil", with lot's of eyes on his body. Ura (regular form) is the opposite of "Hear No Evil", with his big ears, and Rasetsu is the opposite of "Speak No Evil", with mouths on his body.

Just as the Hyper Key for Ultraman Trigger Power Type is U-01, the Trigger Dark Hyper Key is 10-U.

Cute lol

Not me, but someone on Reddit pointed out that the symbol on the TwoSidriver is supposed to be Kamen Rider Live and Evil's helms back to back. Mind blown. I always thought it was some sort of bat-thing upside down with its wings folded.
But then someone else commented that people have been pointing that out since scans of thing dropped and if that's true then I feel like an idiot lol. https://i.redd.it/fdrrxlxbw2y71.jpg |
OOOOH that's super interesting!! I never even realised. Fantastic designwork
|
So, I'm only half-convinced I'm onto something here (although for all I know this is something everyone figured out before me), but hearing Kamen Rider Live's whole "daiji ni kimeyou ka?" catchphrase punning off Daiji's name made me think that's what his transformation jingle is doing too?
Because then you'd have Live's jingle with "Precious" in it, and Evil's with "Darkness", which is ~maybe~ in reference to Kagerou, even though that one is a bit less direct? (And a less inexplicable word choice to begin with.) But it'd make sense if the phrases were mirroring each other given their whole gimmick. I don't know; I'd just like to think this is all deliberate because it'd honestly be a pretty cute touch. |

I just realized the non-main Revice riders are a spider, bat, and snake, the classic 3 kaijin motifs.

Been doing some reading up on Ninninger and just found out after years that the cool team logo with the shuriken and the whooshy spinny lines is actually a heavily stylized version of the kanji for "shinobi" (忍). Which is so immensely clever it makes me love the design way more than I already did, but might also make this an objectively terrible emblem for the series, because it's a shinobi that's actually hiding. :p |
So I just found out that the text on the Kamen Rider Saber Eyecatch aren't just the description of the Wonder RideBook's. Most of them are modified to tell a story of the episode. That so amazing.

It might help to focus less on the actual shapes and more on the number of lines? The swoosh in the upper right and the two lines of the shuriken make the 刃, and the four swooshes going along the bottom, with the one bigger than the rest, are the 心. If you think of the logo in terms of the stroke order it'd be "written" with, like any kanji, the intent becomes super clear. For me, it was one of those things where I didn't believe it at first, but now that I've seen it, I can't unsee it. Really neat design! |
Somehow, I not only failed to notice that MegaRed was part of the montage of space/rescue themed heroes at the end of Gavan vs Dekaranger, but I’d convinced myself that SolBraver and Fire from Winspector were there.

Still waiting on that cliffhanger being resolved. |
So, today I noticed that the Kudakk's mouths are designed to resemble keyboards. You can even see the enter key and space bar. How did I miss this!?

So I realized this while reading some slice of life manga and honestly it's pretty clever.
So basically, the Moe Moe Z-Cune (the Akibarangers' henshin device) is actually a stealth pun (well, maybe not a stealth pun as this is most likely common otaku knowledge in Japan, but whatever): 'moe' means 'cute' or the feeling of cuteness/adoration for something cute. 'Z-Cune' is a pun on 'zukyuun', which is a sound effect for a gun being fired or, in some contexts, a heart being pierced through (metaphorically speaking of course) (an analogy of Cupid's arrow piercing one's heart might help). Basically, 'Moe Moe' refers to Aoi-tan's cuteness while 'Z-Cune' is a playing on the fact that the anime figurine turns into a gun. But that's not even the clever part! The real pun is that 'Moe More Z-Cune' is derived from 'moe moe kyun', a sort of 'magic spell' often chanted in maid cafes by its employees to made the food 'tastier'. The word 'kyun' basically refers to a blushing emotion. 'Moe moe kyun' is especially chanted in Akibahara's maid cafes, further tying in to Akibaranger's Akibahara setting. This has got to be the most clever wordplay I've seen for a henshin device, and I'll be even more mind blown if I ever find out that the Munya Munya Zubaan is another clever wordplay on something. |
For Revice, even when Demons now ends up in Olteca's hands, it still has Spider-Man resemblance, taking Otto Octavius in Superior Spider-Man. Both him and Olteca are cephalopod-themed villains who assumes the mantle of a spider-themed hero, as well as being superior to the previous user of it. Though at the end Otto turned good.

Ive noticed some things about DonBrothers already. For starters, Taro/Don Momotaro's first name is written in katakana, Shinichi/Saru Brother and Tsubasa/Inu Brother's names are written in Kanji, and Haruka/Oni Sister and Tsuyoshi/Kiji Brother's names are written in hiragana.
Another thing I noticed is that Don, Oni, and Saru are live-action while Kiji and Inu are rendered in CGI. The reason I point this out is that Dai Sentai Goggle V, the team that DonBrothers borrows their color palette from, only had Goggle Red, Blue, and Yellow pilot vehicles that formed Goggle Robo. |
Here's something fun I just realized, ignoring Kamen Rider Taisen, the titles of the Super Hero Taisen sequels closely match up with the Dragon Ball anime series.
Dragon Ball Z & Super Hero Taisen Z: Pretty obvious. Dragon Ball GT & Super Hero Taisen GP: GT and GP both start with G and rhyme. Dragon Ball Super & Chou Super Hero Taisen: Both contain the character 超, just read out differently. I know it's a stretch with GP and GT, and I doubt it has any significance, but I think it's a cool detail. |

Okay, I have to admit, this took me way too long to realize. Especially with how rare scythes are as weapons in Kamen Rider.
Very clever parts re-usage though. https://i.imgur.com/GE4MGf1.pnghttps://i.imgur.com/UaloYKW.png |
Watching Ultimate Revice's debut today made me realize that besides magnets, it's also modeled after a space suit, with the see-through cover over the helmet and the small chest hole showing their original suits underneath.
Given the origins of a certain someone, that is a nice detail. |

You know writing a Symphogear and Saber crossover kinda gets the gears turning on certain aspects of Saber. Especially when you get some silly thoughts the further I get into the crossover aspect.
Like they never explicitly say why Slash's personality changes when it comes to using Bremen no Rock Band from what I recall. And I know we've seen Daishinji get loud outside of suit but like... stay with me here. The reason why normal Slash and even when he used 3 Little Pigs, why his personality stayed normal when transformed... is because the books he's using aren't Sound/Music based books. Slash is the Swordsman of Sound, and it totally makes sense that something like Bremen no Rock Band ends up affecting his personality because Sound/Music. Like that just makes so much sense when I think about it. Anyway that was my little brain burst for like today. |

Hibiki - Espada (yellow) Tsubasa - Blades (blue) Chris - Saber (red) Maria - Buster (gray/silver) Shirabe - Slash (pink) Kirika - Kenzan (green) Miku - Calibur (purple) Happy coincidence, that. |

And also gets a purple upgrade after a mind break arc. It's an alternate version, but you know what I mean. I realized these connections during my watch of Symphogear, a time where Saber was very much fresh in my mind. Which is why I have my prof pic as Touma in the style of the Zesshoushinai shorts |

Also, side tangent, I always did wonder what the Symphogears might look like of they fused with the Seiken ala XDU. Too lazy to draw and haven't found any potential fanart of it. Mainly want to see Miku thoigh as the idea of an evil-purging relic fused with an evil sword amuses me to no end. |

Wonder if it's a shameless plug, but ah, I've... Done one. Not Miku, though and the next one I'm planning on doing is Chris'. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/FQvo3wZa...name=4096x4096 |

So this is something I noticed a few weeks ago that's kinda been bugging me, but the final shot in Revice's opening, right? Revi and Vice surrounded by the 10 main Vistamps? ...Except there's only nine Stamps there, because Brachio is nowhere to be found, that I see anyway, and I have no idea why that particular Stamp is excluded. I know it came out last or whatever, but like, it's right there on the Vistamp Bar in the sponsor segment as early as the premiere! So why is it not in this shot!? It just seems like a weirdly specific choice to make! |
Long sense obvious to me that while Shaddam and Gorma of Dairanger are likely derived from Sodom and Gomorrah, it's now clear that the name choice of "Shaddam" also echoes the Emperor character...of Dune!
*Cue Face Palm* |
20 years ago we got Ryuki. This year we're getting Geats. Interesting how Geats based on what we know so far has similar things going for it.
|
It's only been two days since the name was revealed, so it's not been that long, but I only just now realized that Dapan is just the last two letters of panda put in front of the first three and it's just so incredibly obvious that I'm dumbfounded that I didn't notice it sooner.
