Rider Time: Zio vs Decade - The 7 Sougos
Episode 1: The Drifting Classroom
The episode starts out with 2 Invesses making out. Kidding, it starts out with groups of students being attacked by the Invesses. Badass Sougo - 1 comes in and starts fighting them. Cue another group of students also being attacked and Brainy Sougo -2 comes in and fights them. Both henshin and defeat the Invess, and they introduce themselves to the students. Curiously, they come from different schools. Badass Sougo is from Hanazono Academy and Brainy Sougo is from Misawa High School. We then go to Hikarigamori High School where we find Uhr majorly crushing on (our?) Prime Sougo - 3 . Hora splashes water to bring him back to earth and both go to Sougo and Geiz to give them love letters. Geiz, acting like a jerk, tears up Hora's love letter and Sougo actually appreciates Uhr's. Geiz drags Sougo off saying that Uhr's a guy. We then cut to a boarded up classroom where 3 students try to make a break for it outside, they get caught by Invess and rather graphically get eaten in front of the students (including Sougo, Geiz and Schwartz etc). Sougo wants to help, but Geiz stops him saying that they won't make it in time. Schwartz places papers with X's on the desks of the students that died. He says that there is no room for pity because they broke the school rules. It turns out that they have been trapped there for a month and the world outside is a wasteland filled with monsters. Schwartz goes on a rather unhinged rant about escaping from reality and having the students enjoy their student life. Uhr gets excited and hugs Prime Sougo saying that if this keeps up, they would be able to live together while Prime Sougo laughs sheepishly. Schwartz declares that romance is a perfect escape from reality and founds the Romance Club with Hora declaring herself as a master of love. That night, Prime Sougo and Geiz were having their dinner and their talk turn to their shrinking food supplies, being a savior, helping the students and Tsukuyomi. Turns out Tsukuyomi wasn't in the school when this started. Sougo then teases Geiz about Tsukuyomi. The dwindling food supply is getting worse and 3 students threaten another with a knife due to starvation. Schwartz beats up the 2 students and the third one is so upset, he jumps out the window and becomes Invess chow. Morning comes and we see Tsukuyomi in the forest. She then gets jumped by Invess and henshins into KR Tsukuyomi. She fights the Invess and we don't see what happens to her afterward. Hope she didn't get eaten. We then go to Badass Sougo's school where he gets on his motorbike to get help. His girlfriend Misa goes with him and they chop down Invess on the way. The Romance club starts their first meeting and Schwartz says some really cringey stuff about women. Hora then comes in and teaches Uhr how to grab a man's heart. Really weird interaction with Schwartz and Hora here, LOL. Prime Sougo on the other hand, started a mini festival in one of the classrooms with goldfish catching etc. Badass Sougo comes to Prime Sougo's school, asks for some sugar from Misa and henshins into Zio. Prime Sougo hears the commotion and also henshins in to Zio. Misa notices that there are 2 Sougos and Geiz comes in to help. The two Sougos beat the Invess and finally notices that there are two of them. Brainy Sougo then comes in and we get the Spiderman pointing meme. We then see a truck being driven by Tsukasa Kadoya. Preview for the next ep shows the other Sougos, an election for Class President, Zios fighting each other, Tsukuyomi being found in the forest by a kid(?) and Woz! |
Given we're only seeing six Sougo's (Badass, Brainy, Prime, Bancho, Cute, and Wig)... and I'm not sure if the basketball one is coming into play in this one...
How much you wanna bet the kid that finds Tsukuyomi is like, a young Sougo? |

I know that Uhr crushing on Sougo is played for laughs but it is nice that Sougo wasn't a jerk to Uhr about that. |
Well, that was weird. Not good; definitely not good. Maybe bad. Definitely weird.
Violence got extremely graphic in places. It feels really weird and honestly out of place to have gouts of blood, severed limbs, and obviously hollow rubber hands mixed in with the normally kid-friendly Zi-O cast. Are these new versions of the Geiz and Zi-O suits? Because either this is higher definition than I'm used to or these versions look really cheap. I'm not used to the undersuits being so obviously made out of fabric patches. Biggest sign that it's been a long time since I've seen or thought about Zi-O? I spent the entire episode wondering what was up with the random students we were focusing on (boy with the crush on Sougo and girl acting deeply inappropriately towards teacher) and why the actor playing the teacher looked kinda familiar. Didn't realize they were the Time Jackers until reading through the first post in this thread. That makes sense but doesn't make Hora's actions any less inappropriate. |

I wasn't expecting the Inves to go all Amazon like that!
Also, I know the gore and fake blood was meant to make the scene look incredibly distressing and shocking, but you can't expect me to take it seriously with the obvious rubber gloves and mannequins. |

Like out of all the standard Phase 2 monsters they do make the most sense to just go that hard. I mean after all, I doubt all those missing posters at the end of Gaim were cause people ate the fruit, pretty sure those were some Inves kills in there. It's just now we get to see em do it. |

Not that it matters in this special, but just saying. |
So it's obvious that in Zi-O's mini-series they're utilizing the AU concept from Decade, which I'm surprised to see come back with these considering it hasn't been used with Decade since after Movie War 2010. Though you can say it did return in some form with Another Decade's arrival in Zi-O.
Part of me would have loved it if instead of Inves, they used some of the Amazons suits. Sougou and his 7 AU counterparts all dropped in a survival game set in a Decade-style AU Amazons world where they ravaged humanity as the new primary species? I'd be totally behind that. I liked the first episode overall. These Zi-O ridertime specials aren't afraid to be different, which I respect regardless of if the final product is good or not. |
So... I feel like this is an important question given recent events.
What do you think Inves taste like? |

Episode 2. - Night before War
We see the 3 Sougos (Badass, Brainy and Prime) in a classroom. Heure and Hora are looking in and Heure is excited at the prospect of 3 Sougos. Schwartz names the 3 Sougos, Sougo A, B and C. Badass Sougo asks if there is a class president in the school in which Schwartz says since Tsukoyomi disappeared, the position is now vacant. Badass Sougo proclaims that he will be the class president while Brainy Sougo objects. Schwartz says that there will be an election for class president. Heure cannot choose which Sougo which earns him another bonk on the head from Hora. We then see Tsukuyomi lying unconscious in the forest. Good thing she didn't get eaten by the Invess. A young boy approaches her and wakes her up. The boy asks for her name and vice versa. The boy cannot remember his name and how he got there. The election is now in full swing. Brainy Sougo (C) is giving away chocolates to the kids for votes. Badass Sougo (B) is having a rave with Misa to get votes. Prime Sougo (A) is still in his sad festival space with the guy who couldn't catch a goldfish in the last episode. Geiz barges in and tells him that Sougo B and C are way ahead of him. Prime Sougo tells Geiz that's its ok that a lot of people want to be king which confuses Geiz and he storms off. We then see Tsukasa (Decade) going Sougo hunting. He's after the Wig Sougo which is running from him. Decade says that Wig Sougo is guilty of being Tokiwa Sougo, beats him up and kills him with a Final Attack Ride. Wig Sougo vanishes in a puff of shining light. That night, Prime Sougo wakes up and hears squishy and slurping sounds. He finds Schwartz chopping up Invess parts as food for the students. Although creeped out, Prime Sougo agrees to help as a shadow peeks thru the door behind him. The shadow then opens one of the locks in the doors. After helping Schwartz, Prime Sougo gets attacked by one of the Invess that entered thru the unlocked door. Displaying unusual strength, Prime Sougo kicks the Invess out the window (The One references? ). He then sees Brainy Sougo talking to someone unseen about taking care of someone with his own hands. The next morning, we see students happily eating Invess meat. Prime Sougo tries to talk to Brainy Sougo about last night but Brainy Sougo is evasive. We then see Tsukuyomi in the forest still with the kid. The kid wants to go home and points the way to Tsukuyomi. We see the Romance Club is again in session although the only people in the room are Heure and Hora. Huere is putting on makeup and asks Hora is it weird for a boy to like another boy. Hora says no and gender has nothing to do with love (Pretty progressive thinking from Hora). Heure says that he isn't attractive but Hora says he can be cute and applies lipstick on Heure. Prime Sougo comes in asking that they wanted something from him. It turns out it was a setup by Hora and Heure really makes Sougo nervous by talking about marriage and children, leading him to run out the door with Heure in pursuit and Hora LMAO. Prime Sougo then meets Brainy Sougo and tells him that he's bad at romance. Brainy Sougo tells him that he understands and takes Heure as a hostage to be Invess chow. Prime Sougo saves Heure and starts fighting Brainy Sougo while Hora goes to Heure and saves him with her Timejacker(?) powers. She then sees Schwartz watching from the 2nd floor. He then mentions that Hora finally remembers her powers. Prime Sougo and Brainy Sougo are still fighting just as Tsukasa rolls up in his jeep. Brainy Sougo takes down Prime Sougo and he dies(?) while Heure watches. Heure asks Brainy why he did that and Brainy replies that the weak get killed. Tsukasa does a sort of smeer (smile/sneer) and goes back to his vehicle. Badass and Misa arrive and ask what happened while Bancho and Kawaii Sougo arrive at the school next. Misa says there's more of them now while Tsukasa muses about having so many Tokiwa Sougos (to kill probably :D) To be continued.... After credit scenes show the Invess invading the school and Schwartz and Geiz fighting them, Tsukasa challenging all the Sougos to find the one true Sougo (the one who can become Oma Zi-O), Decade's new suit, Oma Zi-O fighting Decade and Zi-O, Prime Sougo somehow coming back, Heure possibly getting hurt bad/dying and the Saber Brave Dragon armor(?). Gonna be an interesting 3rd episode. :D |

Like all meat though it'll taste pretty crap if you don't season them right. |
I really curious....
What happened to Sougo's Grand Zi-O Ridewatch..... Why he currently didn't use upgraded Ridewatches? |
Hmm, I know that writing characters out-of-character is kind of the schtick here, but I really would have liked to have seen a lot more of the actual characters in this.
Also, after this and Rider Time Ryuki, I'd really like Inoue to actually talk to some LGBTQIA+ folks before he puts pen to paper again. |
So far I think I'm overall liking this, but at the same time it feels like a punishment for a crime I didn't know I'd committed
|
So having seen part 3 raw...
You know it'll be a shame if we don't get another V-Cinema or something related to Zi-O soon because uh... this leaves things more open ended than anything else really. This was uh, a wild ride. |
What... Happened? I don't get what happened. I need subs.
Edit: You know it's inoue writing when Tsukasa just has Complete 21 out of nowhere and Ohma lost because "muh feelings for Tsukuyomi". |

I mean with that also I need subs, I need to know if like, was that our Oma? Or was that just an AU Sougo that became Oma and orchestrated this thing?
|
I sure hope this isn't canon. I'd be pissed if it is.
|
LOL Yeah.....this was just STUPID AF
|
This was a waste of effort and time. Inoue trolling with the small budget again.
|
I wouldn't be as dissapointed and unsatsify if there's consistencies. It's depressing to put this out during the 50th. I reckon if they're not going make sense out of the sub title murder house as well as 7 zio fighting, then they should just do an hour long ohma zio return fight that we never actually get for the finale. Also, Schwartz is going to scheme again. Tsukiyomi and geiz were just there.
|
Yeah so Oma Zi-O, the most powerful Rider in existence, was beaten by a lone Ridewatch. Who knew Saber was stronger than every single Rider in existence.
|
Well you must understand that Saber "Decides how this story ends"
The power of the author is truly greater than the power of a character with great power. |
So basically I'm getting a "if you didn't get super invested in the first episode, don't bother; also maybe don't bother even if you did" vibe.
|
So, you know how Masahiro Inoue mentioned that this might be Decade's last journey?
Well~ according to Inoue (the writer) in this interview, I think, (I grabbed it from /m/ so, you can take me with a grain of salt. - He thought Decade is totally done after Zi-O, but turns out they can still go for it in Reiwa. Kimito: This is never going to end lol - Masahiro: Is it OK for us to appear even in the Reiwa? Kimito: If Tsukasa is appearing, I'll probably get to appear too |

They didn't bring Narutaki back for a "new meme resurrection", so not sure what you on about that |
Okay so the explanation for this Oma Zi-O is... he created and destroyed worlds so many times he just regressed into being a kid and just started drawing worlds together to find a new Sougo to fuse with and regain his power.
And even with this explanation this doesn't really explain who this Oma Zi-O is. Is this the actual Sougo who made the School AU and he just became extremely mental trying to do so? Edit: Or and I just thought of this, because this series love AU's and this is technically just another Oma Zi-O that decided not to sit still in his 2068, tried to remake his world tons of time but kept getting it wrong each time. Then saw the School AU that Sougo made but there was a bunch of them so he decided to just smash em all to find the actual good one. Needless to say this special sort of just leaves the door open super wide for anything to happen. Swartz tells Ora that "We'll probably meet Uhr again in the gap between spaces" or something along those lines. Woz talks about how time is a whirlpool and we'll likely see Oma Zi-O and Tsukasa again despite well... they both being dead. I will say one absolute thing though that this special absolutely nailed. More Tsukuyomi content, if there's one thing that she thrives in it's the after series specials/movies. We got two nice fight scenes with Tsukuyomi and I really appreciate that. |
So.... there now just two Tokiwa Sougo now right? Cool that was very weird. It obviously very low-budget so I can't really complain outside of Complete 21 getting wasted that quickly. Hopefully that form comes back and get a much better outling like how Post Show Grand ZI-O has been treated.
|
This was. A special kind of bad. Jesus.
I don't really know what to say, that just sucked. |
Okay, I wasn't super keen on Decade's weird murder mystery, so how do I feel about what is clearly the main event of these twin mini-series judging by length?
Well, uh, *heh-heh*, remember when I said Decade VS Zi-O wasn't soul-crushingly awful~? Because man, I have to say, Zi-O VS Decade just keeps falling apart the longer it goes on until it became downright unbearable to me. It's like some cruel twist of fate. I complain about Inoue using Zi-O to do an off-putting Ryuki sequel, and then a few years later he does the same thing to Zi-O itself, with a ton of the same exact problems, as if to spite me. At least Geiz didn't kill anyone? If there's one thing I can say for Inoue's writing here, it's that I think he actually writes a pretty decent Sougo. Not a great one, but he's weird and offbeat and quirky and eternally positive, even in scenarios where being positive makes him weird, offbeat, and/or quirky. It was fun seeing him again, and I enjoyed seeing Sou Okuno play all the odd alternate versions of himself too, for what it's worth. But everything around that, I mean... how did we even get to the point where there's a Kamen Rider thing where the main villain of Zi-O cooks up Inves ribs to feed his starving students? I know that's ultimately a minor gag, more than anything, but it really seems emblematic of Inoue's attitude towards the script to both of these series. It doesn't feel like Inoue was writing this to tell a story with actual substance or some kind of deeper theme or message, even though he's great at that when he wants to be, nor does it feel like he was just trying to create a fun romp loaded with outrageous gags and over-the-top characterization, even though he's great at that when he wants to be. This is Inoue, as far as I can tell, writing whatever mostly to see if anyone will stop him, and I really wish someone had, to be honest! Zi-O left on such a great note, with a solid enough finale that packed in a nice sendoff for Decade, and an excellent V-Cinema that moved the story forward in a way that felt natural, and then this comes along and it's just weak. It's a story that has neither emotion nor logic, and it squanders the chance to do something more with a cast of characters I really love, not to mention a lead Rider who's become as iconic as Tsukasa has. What maybe most frustrates me is the thoughtless integration of both Decade and Zi-O's new forms. Give this project to Shimoyama or Mouri, and I guarantee you they would've built the story thematically to build up to the idea of these Heisei Riders fighting after their era is over taking on the powers of Reiwa. We'd have Narutaki getting super angry after finding out Decade now has the powers of two decades, only for Tsukasa to shut him up by taking it to an even more ridiculous extreme in the end or something. But instead, a suit as legitimately brilliant as Complete Form 21 (no matter what anyone says!) is just wasted, with no introduction, and not even any real time to show off before getting knocked aside. This is a rambling, angry post, and I'm kind of sorry about that, but it's hard to even know where to pick this thing apart when so much is wrong, and so little of it feels cohesive. I'm serious when I say I didn't like this. It only needed the barest little spark for me to cling to and say it was harmless fun, but this is a bad mini-series with a bad plot and lame action, that only exists to sucker people into signing up for TELASA. At least Kenshi Retsuden had some heart. The best thing I have to say about this, on the other hand, is that it's nice everyone got a second chance to buy a Neo DecaDriver. |
I'm surprised you managed to write that up.
I just got... nothing, man. All I know is that Masahiro seems willing to come back for another shot at Decade, and him and some other people worked on this are hoping Complete 21 gets to do something good for the 50th. |
