Keep up the good work. I feel like my eyesight is restored seeing these.
Seriously, the touch-ups on that Grand Zi-O chibi figure is just great seeing the before and after shots. |
So my cousin got a 3D printer and I had him make me some Wizard Ring pieces to fit bigger fingers. Then he asked me... anything else you want?
So I looked. https://i.imgur.com/XXeCjZA.jpg https://i.imgur.com/dNK4jLz.jpg This is a 3D printed progrise key. It is not to scale. Closer to 8.5mm across, so smaller; but still a fun little desk toy to flip over and over. Bonus! Because I printed the graphics on clear sticker paper and didn't want to waste the full sheet, I printed a little buckle for my ToQ Ichigo! https://i.imgur.com/Xa1nGVS.jpg I was planning to paint the progrise key but I actually like the look of the raw grey plastic. Here's a link to the printable file https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4074330 |
Those actually look really good.

Yesterday I was able to check out the entry grade Zero One kit.
Here it is with a little silver paint and black details: https://i.imgur.com/6fX3Hkx.jpg The Zero One suit is beautifully simple and it translates well to a model kit with few stickers. The kit comes with grey/silver stickers for the arms. It's not an easy paint job because the area is recessed and its a large swath. Compared to the Figuarts: https://i.imgur.com/hHksXMP.jpg https://i.imgur.com/h7JXMBz.jpg The entry grade kit is "bigger" and more in scale with the Figure-rise standard line. It actually looks very accurate to the show suit, insofar as SHF are very action figure-y and thinned out. So why did I pick up the entry grade kit when I already have the SHF? To put it inside my computer of course! It's hard to get a picture, but ever since the Zero One suit was revealed to be fluorescent yellow, I've wanted to do a UV display. https://i.imgur.com/VFygOjt.jpg My next mod will be to add an LED into the head to give those eyes some glow. I'll post an update with the results. |
Do you have any tips for people who wanna starter painting their toys? Been thinking about getting into it myself.

You can pump a small amount of the marker paint onto a small metal tray (or aluminum foil) and then dip the brush in the paint and go at it. The paint is pretty durable, but if you mess up, you can scratch it off with a sharp blade or wipe it off with alcohol. Don't worry about staying in lines, you can scratch off any paint that goes where it wasn't supposed to. < This is actually the big trick of good painting. Don't try too hard to be accurate. Paint around the area, then remove the excess. The viscosity is very good, not too runny and not too thick to leave unsightly brush strokes. I'll try to make a picture guide soon. It's something I've been meaning to do for a while. I have the Astro Megazord Mini-pla kit on order so I might use that as the basis for a guide depending on how much paint it needs. |
Wait you actually put Zero-One inside your desktop? That's so awesome! :lol

UPDATE:
So putting an LED inside the head was a lot harder than I thought it would be. First, the LED I bought was bigger than I expected so I had to drill out way more space in the head. Second, the eye pieces were not at all transparent, so I had to make my own eye lenses out of left over clear red gundam runner. Lots of sanding later and some glue and the final result is: https://i.imgur.com/V3un0yL.jpghttps://i.imgur.com/O9IjVoT.jpg The LED is wired to the motherboard's power LED so it functions as the power indicator. The lights in eyes add so much to the figure and I wish more Kamen Rider figures had something like it. There's a company that sells SHF upgrades, and they make a replacement head for the Zero One SHF with LEDs inside that you can activate with a progrise key! Get on it Bandai! |
