Should Hasbro adapt Kamen Rider, if so how do you all see it work out?
Since Masked Rider failed and Kamen Rider Dragon Knight failed, Hasbro oughta be the best ones to do the job good somehow as they’ve taken Power Rangers.
Could you imagine Hasbro making Kamen Rider like the Arrowverse somehow? Instead of Decade and Zi-O having their own shows, let them appear in crossover events in a way like Crisis on Earth-X & Infinite Earths. |
I used to be in the camp of us getting adaptations of it, and I still wish that either Masked Rider or Dragon Knight had taken off, despite my distaste for both shows.
But now that we're getting official subs and more and more merch is coming stateside, I don't really see the need for it anymore. Would've been fun to have, but now I say leave everything Rider to Team Kamen Rider and Shout Factory. |
The only way I would tolerate hasbro adapting kamen rider is if they dub the show, america cannot make a decent kids show 85% of the time, so its best if they keep their grubby paws off it.

if it makes you shut up about adaptions for 2 seconds then sure

Adapt Fourze. Power Rangers loves setting it's characters in high school, so Fourze already has that plot set and ready to go.

I would only say yes if it meant getting figures of certain characters/monsters since Power Rangers as a toyline has been very plentiful when it comes to figures compared to Japan.
It's why I always push or call out for certain seasons of Sentai to be adapted. I know PR does Villain Figures so I want certain villains from them. Or there's a Sentai Suit I like and I really want a standard figure of them and not what we get from Japan which are usually the smaller candy toy or model based ones. I'm a simple man, what can I say? |
No.
Despite that, I wonder what life would be like if Power Rider (the supposed Fourze adaptation) actually happened. |

I don't mind if they make an adaption but hands off the anniversary series! We don't need another pile of trash like Super Megaforce.
|
I'd much rather just have an English dub than an adaptation. No need to reinvent something that's already good
|
I'd definitely like to see it.
Dragon Knight was already miles better than Ryuki in my opinion, so it clearly can be done. And I'd like to see a different take on a few seasons. Adaptions like Sentai to PR are rare, but super interesting. |

I think either OOO/Fourze/Wizard/Saber will be adapted if anything I don't think W/Revice will be adapted at least right away because of the 2 in one/one becomes 2 gimmicks, I don't think Gaim will be adapted because of how hard you'd have to change EVERYTHING (Wizard too but that's much more doable IMO than Gaim since you'd just have to change how the MOTW's are created same deal with Fourze tbf) Drive I hate going here but prior to May 2020 this would have been my pick for the show to be adapted but because police has since then kinda become a hot button issue in America I don't think Hasbro would stir the pot, Build see Gaim (although it's again MUCH More doable than Gaim since you could just make the plot about an alien invasion yawn), Zi-O because of it relying on past knowledge I don't think Hasbro would EVER want another "I aM AmAzOn" debaccle/Zero-One because Shout Factory is already releasing it subbed so it's like why would you do this when you can do this instead
there are 2 shows I'd like to talk about I've saved for last Ghost would be PERFECT to bring to America except for one thing the MOTW in episode 5's plan is to literally shoot a school tbf it's evacuated by the fact still remains. This wouldn't be an issue in theory but there's one teensy tiny little problem, that's Specter's debut episode so it can't be glossed over (If it were a non action character it could have been) Ex-Aid ok if you cut out the medical drama elements it's perfect to bring to America tbh (although after 2020 I don't think adapting a show about a lethal disease would be in good taste for a while) I just realized they can just more or less make Gaim about an alien invasion (YAWN) where A bunch of KPop stans/boy bands get powers to stop it and I'm horrified by this thought(At least we still get Kachidoki's debut in ALL It's glory shows that have a guy beating the crap out of armed men on a tower with nothing but flags that are on fire>Shows that don't) |
I have always been a big proponent of adaptation! It allows you to push something with an entirely different perspective and story, while still honoring the original. It allows you to push the original in a manner which might be more accessible to those who might not be aware of the original or to those who weren't moved or enticed by the original.
That said, an adaptation can falter if done incorrectly. Also, the need for adaptation is dwindling, but I still believe it serves a purpose. Starters, accept that what was done previously didn't work and don't hesitate to acknowledge that to all sentient life on this planet! Second, make friends with the concept of "retcons"! It might seem odd in the beginning, but it will payoff in the long run. Third, don't worry about squeezing every last drop of juice from the fruit! You can't fit it all in nor should you. It might suck, but that's just part of it. My thinking for Masked Rider (Black RX Adaptation which bombed) is that Hasbro produce a sequel movie to "A Friend In Need", the Mighty Morphin' Season 3 Opener which introduced Masked Rider. A sequel movie will predominately take place during the Mighty Morphin' Era, not long after the Rangers make friends with Ninjor. It relies more on new footage and more on the action than on unmorphed actors. The way we address the M.R. series is that we firmly suggest that the series is NOT canon to the P.R. continuity we know of! All that you know from that series is knowledge of an "alternate timeline" or "alternate dimension". We have the Mighty Morphin' Team of Six Rangers, with the Tommy Green Ranger Clone and Ninjor appearing later in the battle for a total of eight. We then have the Rider side in which we have Dex, "RoboRider", "BioRider", "ZO", "J", and "Black". If you remember the RX special when all of Minami Kotaro's forms appeared on-screen to fight revived/time-displaced Crisis Kaijin, then this will seem familiar. In addition, two very familiar Riders will appear later in the battle for a total of eight Riders. The latter Riders are implied to be "dimension hoppers" who aren't native to Mighty Morphin' or any dimension/universe in the P.R. Multiverse. From a villain side, we have Zedd joining forces with Count Dregon (Jark Shogun) who summons "Chaps" (RX), "Doras" (ZO), "Cobra Man" (J), and even "Shadow Moon" (Black). Zedd will be predominately supported by an array of Zyu2 Monsters to really hit home the fact that this isn't Sentai or Kamen Rider in the conventional sense and to really push some surreal imagery that nobody ever thought they would see (also because Zyu2 Monsters are largely exclusive to P.R. anyway)! To round out the fact that this is a "Long Before" story which we haven't seen before, add/revive a more modern character like Sledge or Scrozzle or Mucus in a time-displaced capacity to examine the battle and do something important in the middle of it. Realistically speaking, no modern villain had been created back when Mighty Morphin' was new, so this could serve as audience rationalization as to why we haven't seen this battle before. As for Kuuga, I had to think about this one awhile and the only conclusion one can come to is: Don't adapt the series! Leave it be! The "Kuuga" story needs to be wholly original and unique. Basically, the villain is "Kuuga" and the hero is "Kuuga", which helps with the overall themes Kamen Rider has explored in the past. The Grongi aren't involved, and they would only serve to glut the story anyway. Basically, an explorer found an artifact amidst some ruins years ago. It is now being examined by Bio-Lab and defended by the Silver Guardians (Time Force reference to help people accept the story as routed within the P.R. Multiverse, but doesn't center on Rangers). The artifact is but one of many, and is now activating after ages of dormancy. It chooses a host who transforms into "Growing Kuuga" and who is aided by others who echo the other alternate forms of Kuuga. The enemy is "Rising Ultimate Kuuga" from All Riders VS. Dai-Shocker. This explores the idea of a villainous Rider and a heroic Rider while showcasing the idea of a team that isn't really a team in the conventional P.R. sense. A key factor is that "Kuuga Mighty" isn't seen at all! To really respect Kuuga and to keep Kuuga unique and protected, the "base form" is excised. Most of the Rising Forms are also excised, but largely because they would be too much too soon, as would Amazing Mighty. In short, the "Growing Kuuga" hero has to either come to terms with the power or succumb to it. Zordon's three Ranger rules definitely come into play, and "Growing" becomes "Ultimate" to stop "Rising Ultimate"! In many ways, it's a coming-of-age character piece in the form of Rider VS. Rider! The absolute surrealism of seeing "Ultimate Kuuga" punching "Rising Ultimate Kuuga" might be stunning to some long-time Rider fans. Oh, and the explorer from earlier is Ryan from Lightspeed Rescue! The idea is that he found something while researching the tomb where the Lightspeed Demons were released from. Kuuga originally aired around 2000, which was when Lightspeed and Timeranger were airing. To really drive the point home, Eric of Time Force also makes a cameo appearance. Neither morphs into Titanium or Quantum cause this isn't a Ranger story, but it will add that element of familiarity to it. From then on, my thinking is to focus more on movies than on series. Add too much of a series, and you add too much information too soon for anyone to keep track of, to say nothing of glutting the market with figures nobody can find on shelves! Ryuki will likely get glossed over as it has already been dealt with, and that leads into my other idea of canonizing Dragon Knight into the P.R. Multiverse! It might be controversial and expensive, but it shouldn't be ignored. It's easy to ignore Masked Rider cause we have the P.R. crossover which preceded it. Dragon Knight didn't get that and it's an important detail. Anyway, I'm starting to ramble and this is already a long entry. It's my initial thoughts on a Kamen Rider Adaptation which I think could be made to work. P.S.: The two "dimension hoppers" I mentioned earlier are the OG Double Riders! Haven't decided if they should be the '71 Originals or Decade-style A.R. Riders. Wouldn't it be so damned wild to see those two suits give a "Rider Double Kick" to a revived Pumpkin Rapper!? |
Like Arrowverse's Crisis on Infinite Earths & Earth-X, have the Masked Rider series and the Dragon Knight series be their own Earths.
While in the adaptation series made by Hasbro, it'll be different if adapting Build or Zero-One as the first series. There will also be timelines involved as Build will come from a future after Pandora's Box was opened, bringing out a WWIII. But after using Evolto's energy to restore Earth anew, a new future for Zero-One will be made taking place in a new future, but Build's memories remain somehow. Saber will come from our time as well as Revice, if they can explain how the Vistamps were made later on as the series progresses. If the US won't do well, it's time Canada gets respect and tries it out for themselves. |
I want a original American Kamen Rider show with no Japanese footage. I don't want another PR style adaption.
|
I doubt Hasbro will do any Kamen Rider Adaptions. Since they stop doing Future PR Adaptions.

I'm afraid I think that outside the US there may be people that would take a US adaptation less seriously whereas even things like the DiC Sailor Moon dub didn't change the actual overall content in quite the same way, I realise that some people could also have the opposite opinion but there doesn't seem to be a perfect solution!

Hasbro would have some trouble getting Toei to license them Rider, seeing as Shirakura mockingly said they'll get "payback" for Masked Rider being a flop
https://variety.com/2021/film/global...er-1235009716/ For the sake of argument, I could see Hasbro going safe and choosing a series that isn't abundant with collectible gimmicks. I feel Hasbro is more interested in doing figures and role play gear than gimmicky items. The way they approached the RyuSouls feels like an afterthought by not making them flippable or even bothering to make the power-up keys I think you can make a solid figure line out of W, OOO, and maybe even Build by focusing on the mix-and-match aspect of the suits as a selling point. Pack the Memories or Medals with the figures the way the Dino Fury sets come with the keys. W even has a couple different vehicles which Hasbro likes to do from time to time. Can't really imagine Hasbro touching Phase 1 because of the outdated video quality, unless they really want to go through the trouble of making everything from scratch |

Build would be more suitable as the first rider series in US/Canada. As for Revice, since the Vistamp are based on legacy riders mixed with animals & Dinos, don't see any point in making shows for Decade, W/Double, Den-O, Faiz, Kuuga, Ex-Aid, Fourze, Gaim & Zi-O. Except Decade & Zi-O would be good for crossover events, when the multiverse is in trouble as well as the timeline in crisis. |

https://www.kamen-rider-official.com...4/main_image/1 But yeah no even with that Drive aesthetic doesn't tell you the show has cops in it. Since you can just easily make a Drive adaptation focus exclusively just about cars instead. And that one of the cars for his powers is based off a police car. |
I mean, if drive weren't a cop what would he be? his entire identity is the fact he's a cop and it's referenced a lot via his fighting style, personality, and mannerisms.
drive being a cop was one of the coolest and unique things about his series. I'm sure you could fuck around with that if you really wanted to but you take away all of the appeal of drive. you might as well fuck with another series if you're going to go that far. |

I would rather the US left Rider alone.
Power Rangers has blown it with Mega Force and taking 2 years for a series is dumb all thanks to Nick so given those 2 factors leave the Rider line alone please. I don't want any US company to even touch the Rider line. Including Hasbro. |
