Kamen Rider Black Sun
A Showa Remake is the next major project reveal for Rider Week

T-The child of the sun is too powerful!
|
I hope it takes some ques from the manga. My ideal version of Black is an inbetween of the live-action show and the manga.
I also wonder if it'll be a movie or a mini-series? |

So this will be to Black what Amazons was for Kamen Rider Amazon?
I wonder if they can fit in a cameo from Tetsuo Kurata. Or Rikiya Koyama. |
Well well wellly well well....
Not what I expected which I like! |

I'm absolutely sure Kurata will show up in some form, even if it's like Ban Daisuke's cameo in Kikaider Reboot. Koyama maybe not since he's tied in with Black RX. |
Now THIS I didn't see coming, and with all of the Black stuff that's been dropping this year, I can't see HOW I missed this!?
Anyway, this is very exciting! I'm guessing (from what people are talking about here) it'll be more akin to Garo than Amazons, but I like the sound of this. In fact, I'd be down for a Stronger reboot, to be perfectly honest. |
*heart stops*

This is EXTREMELY appreciated; I'm perhaps more interested in this than Futo Detective! Well worth staying up for, I'm hyped
|
I just hope it actually pertains to Black, and isn't just some spinoff that just uses design cues.

If it follows the precedent of The First/The Next and Amazons, the plot will be edgy nonsense filled with laughably bad gore, but the suits will be gorgeous and it'll ultimately be more entertaining than not, so I'm excited
|
|
I am completely here for this.

High-pitched squealing.
|
I'm not *immediately* sure of this for some reason, but considering I legitimately like both seasons of Amazons, it'd probably be pretty narrow-minded of me to brush off an "adult" reboot of a Showa series immediately, huh?
I have a feeling this is something that will get more exciting for me the more I see of it. Either way, the mere existence of this as a project is definitely quite cool for how it shows Toei willing to do more random ideas. BLACK was a show that was like, internationally popular, so I'm sure everyone who grew up with it especially is going wild right now. |
Nice! This weeks keeps on getting better and better.

Is it too optimistic to hope that this ends up on Netflix or one of the other streaming services in the US? |
I’m going to be a bit of a wet blanket here and just say reboots don’t fill me with confidence. At least something like Amazons is so radically divorced from what it is inspired by that it is basically completely unrelated to it, but the idea of someone redoing the basic premise of Black just doesn’t interest me as much as something original. I hope it works out though!
Part of me is a little tempted by the idea of it turning out as goofy as The First / The Nexf, not gonna lie... |
Perhaps I should watch Black after this announcement.
|
The world is not ready nor prepared for a Black reboot. He's too strong! I'm gladly accept the destruction that follows. XD
|
Is the director known for anything of note toku-wise or otherwise?

My (probably) 2 favourite Riders are getting new shows? That's pretty cool!
The obvious route to go with Black Sun is make it a closer adaptation of the Manga. But I'm excited to see what they do with it anyway! |

Ugh, I hope they don't make it overly edgy like Amazons. I kind of just want the original series again but more modernized and with tighter storytelling.

This should be interesting |
Now this is interesting. A full on remake of one of my favorite Showa Rider-series. It's probably a more adult 10-15 episodes kinda deal, which I'm fine with, if you cut the "Fish is disappearing? Golgom must be behind this" and "Some random kid is in trouble, I have to help"-type of episodes and only focus on the Century Kings you can basically tell the whole thing with a much lower episode count.
What I'm most excited for is that we're getting another Rider-show that isn’t controlled by toy advertisements. Just something a creative vision can go wild on without having to shoehorn in a new gimmick every other week. That doesn’t necessarily have to be a good thing, Amazons Season 2 was still rather terrible, but the first season was cool so if we're getting something like that then sig m e up. The tone doesn’t need to be gruesome, but Kamen Rider Black was kinda graphic at points so I wouldn’t be surprised if they do it. Kotaro's transformation into the Batta Man and the transition to Black Sun alone could be pretty creepy if they choose to portray it that way. |

I don't know how I feel about this. I mean, it doesn't matter too much, I guess, because whatever happens the original series remains, and I am relieved that they're not going the Amazons route, but I think I would have been enthusiastic about something set in the same timeline as the original rather than a remake. |
Looking at Shiraishi's body of work I expect a decent scoop of grimy.

You just know if this does well it will be the perfect set up for RX - the greatest Showa rider ever ;)

I also hope they keep the theme song, updated/remastered/remade/whatever, just keep that awesome theme. |

I guess I'm curious. I fear it'll be a bit too much like Amazons, a show I really wanted to love but couldn't maintain interest in. That I'm not familiar with the original Kamen Rider Black may actually be helpful. I'm also kind of hoping for a cooler version of the suit; I just didn't care for the original or RX.
Even Amazons couldn't avoid getting shackled by toys, albeit not to the degree the main Kamen Rider seasons have been for the past however-many years. One of the things that threw me out of that show was the suits, belts, and weapons - both hero and villain - just didn't match either the overall tone of the show or each other. Given how little we know, it could turn out to be anything at all, and another try at an adult-oriented Kamen Rider show could produce something I might really love. We won't know until it airs, I suppose. |
It could end up being streaming short to anime or manga special or Ichigo first next movie . Live action though .
|
So say that they bring back toku alumni for this project and faithfully adapt the manga(so not going the route of Amazons and just faithfully stick to the source), I think one of these alumni would be a decent Kotaro:
Atomu Mizuishi aka Shiguru/Kiramai Blue from Kiramager Fumiya Takahashi aka Aruto/Zero-One from Kamen Rider Zero-One Kosei Yuuki aka Keiichiro/Patren 1 from LuPat Takaya Yamaguchi aka Rintaro/Blades from Kamen Rider Saber Masaki Nakao aka Yamato/Zyuoh Eagle/Gorilla/Whale from Zyuohger |
I wasn't sure where to put this, but can anyone confirm or deny if this thing Tetsuo Kurata supposedly said is true?
