Chise's great, Yume's great. Hope Chise gets to do more in Dyna Soldier, I got excited when she summoned Soldier. So much energy! Obviously she's not up to it at first like everyone, but love to see more.
Ah, Yomogi's issue with Yume takes me back. Only I got turned down lmao. But I love the interactions with these two, and definitely hoping it goes somewhere. I'm also interested in what's Koyomi's deal. Obviously he's not gonna get with Yomogi's co-worker, but I hope he gets somewhere with someone or takes the ladder steps to society lol. Wonder when they'll realize they don't have to go to Dyna Rex everytime to destroy an opponent. Maybe an episode where they're locked out of it somehow. |
So Chise is getting solid practice in with Dyna Soldier and seems to be getting the hang of it. I wonder how much piloting she'll be able to get in when Yomogi can't do it?
We get to see the combination of Dyna Soldier and Dyna Striker that reminds me a lot of Max Gridman, but it's biggest difficulty is the weight...but it also has some seriously powerful range attacks. So Yume's sister looked like her with a bob cut, but all this investigation into her sister has apparently uncovered that her death might have been a suicide, although I wonder if Yume already knew that on some level? What does Yomogi's boss want with Koyomi? She says she's married, but she's not sure why she even got married, and then she takes him to dinner...and what did she show him in middle school? Thank you Chise for getting our cast into the pool, especially to see her and Yume in swimsuits. Not to mention Mujina in a bikini to boot! All she wanted to do was enjoy the pool. Is there a reason Chise kept her glove on? Maybe something to do with why she won't go to school? Gauma is still best wingman, getting Yomogi and Yume to fake date to fool Sizumu, and the pair actually seemed to have a genuinely good time together...at least until Yume had a flashback to her sisters death. Was that supposed to be jealousy on Yume's face when she heard Chise was with Yomogi in Dyna Soldier? Nice combinations from the crew to take down Sizumu's Kaiju in this episode! |
This was honestly a fun episode, just Gauma's antics of turning a pool day into attempting to capture Sizumu alongside everyone just relaxing. Mujina is also a mood because if I was part of a villain group that just got to the pool I'd be very disappointed in us having to leave immediately even if it's for work stuff.
Dyna Soldier and Dyna Striker's combination was cool, I knew in the OP it looked like a Max Gridman style formation. But the difference between Gridman and Dyna Soldier is that Gridman has the necessary weight and heft to be able to utilize Max's gigantic arms he grants. So far it seems like Dyna Wing is the only optimal combat combination aside from Soldier riding on Diver. But I gotta say, I kinda found it cute with them all just diving into the river at the end, even if their pool day basically got ruined by what I'll admit was an interesting Kaiju. But damn, what a way to end this... And for my final thoughts... so at first I thought Yomogi's boss was like, a minor character we'd see every now and again, but given how weird the vibes are with the flashbacks of her and Koyomi in middle school... I feel like there's something more to her than I originally figured. |
The Gridman shows always have a way of hooking me in. I find the story so interesting even if at times it just feels like a slice of life juxtaposed with mecha and kaijus (and I'm starting to feel like that is my ideal level of "Realism"- that mystical realism that studios like Ghibli and authors like Murakami capture so well).
The show is starting to unravel and I get the feeling the theme is about the grey areas of the decisions we make and how they impact others around us. Friendships, marriage, suicide, and even the act of doing nothing (like Koyomi's unemployment) have lasting effects on people all around us. Also I'm just a sucker for young love. Honestly Yomogi could use a little more development beyond being attracted to the odd girl, but who knows how that could change; I felt that way about Hibiki from Gridman throughout the series until the story came into full near the end. Now I'm okay with his one dimensionality. |

Ah yes, the obligatory swimsuit episode, and an opportunity to sell swimsuit waifus for the weeaboos, and for more people to only like this series for that reason over everything else here being near a gosh darn masterpiece, just like Gridman. *sigh* It's fine. It's fine! (Please don't take this man seriously)
Anyway, if Roundabout started playing at the end of the episode, this would have been the perfect cliffhanger. But overall, this was a fun episode, seeing our best boy, Gauma's shenanigans, and everyone else having fun. While in the background, things are about to go down. "Oh yes, it will go DOWN." Yomogi's boss always had this odd aura about her, maybe because I'm reminded of Rikka's mother in SSSS Gridman, though granted she didn't have much going on like in this case. Also, her having doubts on why she's married, for some reason, makes me think there's probably a Gridman situation or something going on here, like maybe these people are "fakes" with their own roles to play here. And Yume's sister might have committed suicide, well that escalated quickly, I was thinking someone might have straight up murdered her. But since they have yet to go into detail, what with the episode ending and all, we might not have the whole picture here. And I gotta say, I love the Kaiju Eugenicists, especially Ogiri, who nearly dies every episode now, it's just fun to see these characters, who despite being the current villains (I expect there's something more going on here), lead rather normal lives, aside from wreaking havoc whenever a Kaiju appears. And by the way, I love how these Kaiju remind me of something the Ultra Series would definitely do. Sorry this has gone on for so long, but since we're getting more info in this series, there's a lot to process, so I'll leave this off with some easter eggs: The joint Koyomi and (I forget her name, but you know who I mean), Cho Jin might be a reference to the original Denkou Choujin Gridma, choujin meaning super human. And Musashibou, probably an homage to the episode whare Khan Digifer sent Musashibou Benkei to protect Takeshi. |
With each episode I grow increasingly worried about Chose and this one REALLY did not help with the focus on her keeping the glove on.
|
Lots of unpacking for what I was assuming was my typical fanservice-y beach episode. Chise keeping the glove on and the suicide word at the end hoo boy. One can just say Chise keeping the glove on is just her being chuuni, but her bubbly personality, her shots in the opening, SSSS standing for "Scarred Souls Shine like Stars", it all feels like it leads to some form of inflicted self-harm.
Also, damn, I need Koyomi and Yomogi to get with it already hahah. Not quite feeling the three stock footage transformations here, especially with the first one being interrupted and then replayed for the full transformation. Oh well, the music helped it. Also, Mujina in a swimsuit and basically not giving a damn about what they're job is... https://media.tenor.com/images/d517a...f18f/tenor.gif |
This might've been my favorite episode yet.
First of all, the scenes were Yume is reminded of seeing her sisters falling / her dead body in the water was genius. That's the kind of "show, don't tell" aspect I love about both Gridman and Dynazenon. And at the end it is once again handled perfectly, as Yume is unsure to jump into the water with her friends but looking at them fills her with ease. Since the panned shot included the entire team I want to say it was friendship, but since it ended on Yomogi it made me feel like she does return his feelings. Or a mix of both. Another small hint at this I feel like was seeing her being a bit annoyed / jealous at Chise piloting the Dyna Soldier together with Yomogi. Talking "show, don't tell" and Chise - another great aspect of this episode. The focus on her arm bandage. Now we know it's not fashion but she's hiding something, I think it’s safe to assume its scars. Maybe burn marks even. This will no doubt play into a much darker aspect of her character and the suspected turn towards evil that the opening hints at. Then there's Koyomi who I'm rather worried about honestly. I can't imagine what Yomogi's co-worker "showed" him back then, but it does appear she had issues. I mean, you don’t really smash windows out of boredom. And her current state - I feel like she isn't even married anymore, or at the stage in her relationship were she knows a divorce would be the better option but can't bring herself to do it. And I don’t know how Koyomi plays into this, he obviously had feelings for her but I’m afraid he was and is about to once again be used as an emotional punching-bag. A toy for someone who is broken. Lastly there's Yomogi himself being a bit of a clumsy, love-struck fool and Gauma becoming an object of straight up comedic genius for an entire episode. And that’s why I liked this episode the best so far, everyone had something great going on. Even the bad guys. I really appreciate the running gag of Onija being almost killed via debris at the end of every fight. And this episode also had the best monster so far IMO, a really fun design. The action scene was great too, I love that they went against expectations and didn't make Dyna Soldier Striker a melee brawler form like Max Gridman. Instead it’s a ranged powerhouse with stability issues which is hilarious. My only gripe is that Dyna Rex is once again only brought out for seconds and only allowed to land the finishing blow. I want more action scenes with this form but I'm certain we will get them. So yeah, this episode had everything. A simple yet fun setting, great character moments, well-done comedy and a top actions sequence. Also a really dark twist at the end, Jesus. But that's what makes this show so good, it never goes stale or becomes too predictable, you really need to be prepared for the gut punches. All around fantastic episode for a show that keeps on delivering. In many aspects. Including this facial expression of Gauma :lol https://i.imgur.com/OuUotzo.png |
So do we have the name of that song that was playing during the battle? I recall it also being in the trailers.
Cause I was really enjoying it a lot. |
The lifeguard at the water park in this weeks' episode is voiced by Masaya Obi, the actor who portrayed Naoto in the original Gridman series.

Also, I'm guessing Chise's hiding something in her glove. You can see in some scenes with Gauma where he as burns and scars on him, so it wouldn't surprise me if she has something underneath that could lead to something big. And wait... You're telling me the original Gridman protagonist was in this episode AND somewhere in SSSS Gridman!? Dang, that is neat. |
So it turns out Kano was dating the popular vice-president of the choir, and she may have been bullied for it, but she put on a brave and cheerful face against the bullying. Is that why she committed suicide?
There's dissension among the Kaiju Eugenisists. Gunja wants to negotiate with Gauma, Onija wants to destroy them all, Mujina doesn't really care (at least until the end when she gets as enthusiastic about fighting as Onija), and Sizumu wants to just carry forward as is and keep releasing Kaiju. Chise sure talks like she knows how it is with bullying... Just when Koyomi thinks something might come of his interaction with Yomogi's boss...she brings her husband over. And he gets Koyomi's name wrong. And he looked kind of like Tony Stark. Is this what Koyomi gets for running away when she showed him a potential love nest when they were classmates? But then by fate he runs into Mujina in the rain and ends up dining with her, complete with her thighs crossed while she classily sips wine. And it turns out they're not that different in terms of not having much that is driving them. Could something come from this between the two of them? Or was that broken when Mujina stole Dyna Striker and got really into destroying Dynazenon at the end? That prank video was rough. Both for how realistic it is and for how you can just see how her female classmates were treating Kano and then acting like it was all in fun. Poor girl. Yume was jealous of Yomogi's female friends being close with him? Is that why she acted so cold to him? Well, Koyomi got to tackle and get kicked by Mujina. That's not too bad. Nothing shows a team dynamic is thrown off quite like not getting the combination phrase in synch. The team's emotional problems finally get in the way of them saving the day. And just when it seems like the end of Dynazenon...Wait, is that...Gridman!? No, is that Gridknight? Is that Anti!? |
Okay this episode was pretty great as always, like a good continuing build on issues and stuff already present. I was surprised like for the climax fight, how much just got ramped up from 0 to 100 in like 2 seconds after the Kaiju grew. Like holy shit was that a lot of destructive power.
But it's hard to get any coherent thoughts out because HOLY. HELL. Those last 25 to 30 seconds of the episode! I literally just yelled and cheered as I saw that happen! Edit: I keep replaying those last 30 seconds constantly because yes. |
Yep still suuuuper worried about Chise.
Also Anti hyyyyyype!! |
As we come up on the halfway point to the series, I wondered when we'd get a connection to Gridman. This episode felt like it played out very fast, or maybe I was just excited to move the story along. Next episode should be a doosey!
|
Wait we are already halfway? Man, it's really going fast. I like the scenes with Yume, and Chise brings up a point about it, too. If it's bullying, there won't be much evidence of said bullying, except for the aftermath condition of the victim. So, it makes it really hard if that victim is already dead. Let's just say I have a family member in a similar spot where Yume's sister was, minus the suicide part.
But, it is odd that it'd be Chise to talk about it. Would she know something about it? Perhaps being bullied herself? And ah, Koyomi, maaaaan. He gotta get a grip. And maybe get with Mujina, heh. But I guess his whole schtick is some sort of fear of commitment? No job, no girlfriend, no career, and pretty much stays in all day unless it's practicing or fighting in Dyna Striker. The scene at the diner or restaurant where it just skips and Koyomi not doing anything, stirs me up a bit. i know what it feels lol it hurt deep Wish we got more scenes with Mujina and Koyomi, though. That was good with what little, and nice to see Mujina puttin her foot down and be more active. She sounds like a typical MOTW now. I was not huge on Anti becoming Gridknight, I prefer his kaiju form still, but when he came down and it took me half a second to notice it's Anti, I went " OOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH SHIIIITTTT!!!" I should pick up his Figma... But this does raise two questions I have. 1. Does this mean we're still in the digital world? And the buildings are only not being restored cuz Gridman nor Akane isn't here? Also, damn that's a lot of casualties, hope they bring that up. 2. Wouldn't it be dangerous for Anti to be here? He is a Kaiju after all. |

Now one could say he'd be able to resist easily since none of the Kaiju so far seem to have fully developed sentience and it'd at least take maybe two or more to control him. But also the interesting opportunity it presents is that a struggle like this could fully cement and further Anti's arc and character. What with how I said, he's definitely more than the average Kaiju. That being said, who knows what exactly he is here for, why he showed up, and what he knows. And it's interesting to see how he lands, his back faced to the Kaiju summoned and facing Dynazenon. Now it could be just so the heroes could see his face, but who knows, what with how they've been subtle about reusing certain shot and angles. |
I know it's been a few years, but man I am still real surprised by the number of comments I saw on Reddit of people saying they totally watched Gridman and yet have no idea who nor can recognize Anti at all. Did... Did you really watch it?? He's a pretty damn big character!
I won't be surprised if we see all 4 eugenicists try and possibly temporarily succeed in taking him over. Thule Kaiju in this episode really serves to introduce the idea they can work together to take over stronger monsters, so I find it almost inevitable. But first I'd very much like to know how he got here. |
Remember kids. Don't leave your toys out in the open. especially when one of the bad guys is there.
Looks like we're heading into the inner conflict with the team, along with developments in the enemy camp. Mujina's decided to get serious, and her mentioning not knowing what she's supposed to do, makes me think she was either recruited into their party against her will like the Dynazenon team, or she's been assigned this role from some higher power. Sizumu's lines sound like their invaders in some way with how they describe Kaiju and this world, meaning they know more about this world than we thought. And sure enough, that's going to play a role moving forward. Not much to say about the struggles for our heroes, since what I might have to say has already been said, but this is going to make for quite the resolution for Dynazenon. After all, Scarred Souls Shine like Stars. This Kaiju absolutely went from 10 to 20 in an instant ("That's a lot of damage!" -Phil Swift), with the Kaiju Eugenicists using two to control one, a 4 V 4 is inevitable. And here comes Gridknight, how exactly he fits into this is certainly going to be something. Though I wonder if this is THE Anti or another version of him... |
I wonder if Gridknight can combine with Dynazenon like Gridman did with Dyna Dragon. Will that be Dynazenon's upgrade like Full Powered Gridman?

I would say this is "another" digital world and Gridknight switched servers or something, or it is the same digital world from Gridman but rebuild by someone else. Maybe Chise? Or they're trolling and it’s the real world and Gridknight materialized himself, and the Kaiju are being sent out from the digital world, Digimon-style. Quote:

So, there's been these audio dramas for a while, that last few have been about the Eugenicists, but this one seems to be the skipped "conversation" with Yomogi, Yamamoto, and her husband.
They, uh, laugh at Koyomi for a while, with Koyomi only nervously laughing back. Oof. I don't exactly understand much of the conversation, but the awkward silence in some parts and Koyomi being Koyomi is so hard to listen to. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JPkWpvfpXZ0 |
Here's a subtitled version and yes, it's super awkward. This and the new episode made me feel really bad for Koyomi; I've felt some of those feels.
Then learning that Yume's sister probably killed herself from the bullying she got at school is a bummer. But man, did the end of that episode hype me up! That was a genuine "OH SHIT" cliffhanger. Will we see a King Gridknight? |
Hope is on the horizon for him though. They're clearly setting up something with Mujina here.

I think Gridknight being here plays into the idea that was brought up a few episodes back when Sizumu says "kaiju are born from a human's desire to be free from some burden". Might Anti be created from one of the main character's burden? The idea certainly fits into how Akane was creating Kaiju to serve her purposes in Gridman. It would be wonderful for Gridman to find new meaning after a semi-sequel 2 years later. |

Theory: Gridknight might have something to do with Chise. After all, she's not stowing away aboard Dynazenon, and there's still so much yet to be revealed about her. Not holding my breath, and I don't want to lean too much into SSSS. Gridman characters, since Tsuburaya said this wasn't a Season 2, not that I'm against that mind you, but it would be interesting if Gridknight's taking the mantle of protector in this version of the world. |
Quote:
I wonder if those red eyes behind her in the Opening are going to end up being Anti/Gridknight? |
This was a real good episode, the main Dynazenon team continues to grow, I really enjoyed Koyomi and Gauma's little moment and Koyomi seems to be getting somewhere. It's also nice to see Yomogi and Yume bond a bit more after everything last week. Curious to see what Chise's deal is what with that bead continuing to grow.
I was expecting Anti, but I was not expecting Anosillus the 2nd, nice to see that they're working as a team now under the name Gridknight Alliance. And they're older as well! Looks like some time has passed since the events of SSSS.Gridman. Though I suppose with a name like Gridknight Alliance that Gridman's branching out then with his allies, or at least I assume anyway. It also seems like the two only just recently showed up as well. Their presence and the way they talk too definitely seems to hint that this isn't the same world as the original SSSS series either. What with their talk about worlds, and such, as if they've been hopping from place to place fighting Kaiju on the regular. Of course Anti's (Or I suppose I should call him Knight now) as rough around the edges as ever and it's funny seeing him and Gauma butt heads. But hey when there's a Kaiju on the scene, I suppose that's enough for them to come to a brief understanding. Speaking of though, that final fight of Gridknight and Dynazenon fighting together, with Anti's character song blaring in the background as they beat down on the toughest Kaiju yet? That brought a big old smile to my face. |

Crackpot thought, but I wonder if the woman Gauma is referring to is Akane. Unlikely, but just a thought when he said she was somewhere he can't reach. Man, also looks hurt here when he said "Cool, right?"
I like that Yomogi and Yume are now in the same page when it comes to their investigation and only furthers my investment on these two. Koyomi's somewhat resolved his thing with the manager woman, but albeit in a bittersweet way. He's the only character in this show who hasn't progressed his relationships with anyone. Even the Kaiju euginicists (I'm never gonna be able to spell that right), formed a bond with each other in Mujina and Onija. At least Chise's there, neat scene of them biting on the lollipop. Tho, seems like something is stirring inside Chise. Envy? Not good~ Anti and Anosillus! Glad to seem them back, and also the little wand thing that the magical girl used to bring the first Anosillus to her senses! Have little knowledge on the original Gridman since it's been a while. Anti's grown so much, wow. Like how Anosillus still kept her bright smile that somehow still looks unintentionally threatening, as seen when Gauma puts his hand on her shoulder and Anti reacts while she barely moved. One more time, I like Yomogi and Yume. |
Resolutions! Revelations! Redemption!? Oh my...
So Anti, or at least someone very similar or something, is back with Anosillus (thank you people who remembered her name!), who I had a feeling it might have been since she had the music not on her and the magical girl baton. Looks like their filling the role for the Gridman Alliance, which is a nice detail. Koyomi saving the guy is perhaps the most realistic reaction I could think of, where he considers leaving him, but then seeing how he's still alive and keeps thinking back to him and his wife, decides he doesn't want to regret leaving him to die, good stuff. The Kaiju Eugenicists building their bonds really solidifies they could be protagonists in their own way. Wonder what they're endgame's going to be. And Chise slowly looking more suspicious, means we might be getting close to some other revelation. And the opening changed, at least visually, but it still adds extra details like the shots where the main cast pulls out their Dynazenon pieces, which perfectly obscure someone standing in front of them. Really curious to see what's going to happen here on out. I have a feeling the guy Yume's sister was seeing might be more than a simple "bully." And of course, I'm not going to forget that magnificent battle either. Seeing Gridknight, complete with a rising animation, team up with Dynazenon, in mech form no less, absolutely wallop that Kaiju and have a handshake scene was an absolute joy to watch. This show absolutely kills it with the fights, and I am all for it. |
To coincide with Gridknight's debut in Dynazenon, we're getting a Gigan-techs figure of him!
Would be neat to see Tron-Model make a model kit of Gridknight, though. Would love to get the figma, but the proportions are still pretty odd to me. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/E1ZnulWV...pg&name=medium |
I'll never get the odd proportions that the Figma of Gridman and Gridknight have, I guess it's to make them look more anime stylized? But idk, the big shoulders are kind of like a turn off for me tbh since they're the most striking feature.
|
I am waiting for the big twist to happen because not gonna lie as the show is starting to really annoy me with how only a couple characters seems to care that giant monsters are destroying cities and killing people yet no one else bats an eye like this is some common thing that happens every week.
Like now I am expecting M. Bison just to respond with "But for me, it was a Tuesday". Seriously it is getting hard for me to enjoy when it seems like the kaiju and fights are a bit of an after thought. Please tell me I am missing something. Please let the twist reveal be soon. |
Anosillus the 2nd's baton twirl apparently is a nod to episode 6 of Gridman.

I think the fact that they avoid having the expected, over-the-top, really emotional reactions be a common thing unless absolutely necessary is a good way to differentiate things from typical toku tropes and acting. Quote:
