Like the issue for me (and from others, on this website and other ones) is when it's not done subtly and treats people like idiots by hammering it in. It always feels artificial and can be pretty condescending at times. Which isn't what Dino Fury's done; it's basically treated like any other romance in Power Rangers; the most they do it just hold hands or hug. Like I don't ever recall Power Rangers ever showing characters kiss onscreen. It's the type of representation I think needs to be done in kids media; show that loving someone of the same gender is completely normal. |
I'm incredibly moved by the fact that only one person in this thread has busted out homophobic rhetoric, and that the entire community here moved to shut it down.
Thank you, Tokunation. :cry |
The problem is, someone having an opinion that isn't the same is now seen as " phobic wrong-think" now (the blank is for ya'll to fill it in), just cause someone is personally not okay with this stuff bding in a show for younger people doesn't mean it's hateful till it's seen so by any amount of people, so many words lose meaning the more broadly & loosley they get used, and in my OPINION, it should'vs ended without anyone jumping down anyones throats cause this whole thread got political, and no I personally care of you like who you like, that's ya'll's business, not mine, but anime has been doing this for god knows how long, and shows from NA, EU, and AUS have just been doing this recently as proper, non-gag representation, so for the love of all that is holy can we end the arguing, yes some will be happy, some won't, but opinions are just that, a person's PERSONAL view, I personally am neutral due to me watching Sentai & Kamen Rider more than Power Rangers these days.

Well, yes; I would quite like if we could just discuss or talk normally about something without someone yelling that loving who I love is in some way 'political' and going on about Modern Day Politics, whatever that's supposed to mean. Pretty much everyone here is interested in and has engaged multiple times in civil, polite discussion; but I think you've gotta understand that sometimes people really lose their patience for that when there's people yelling about the gays ruining media or whatever the moment a character isn't straight for five seconds. It gets really tiring.

It's become more common, but the fact it is still made a big deal of is telling it isn't common enough. |

The movie did it previously. In what way is this newsworthy when it is accepted by people? You seem to fail to understand what I’m truly saying... Is it because it’s a US Show and that people in the US are closed minded about this subject? Again, people do what they want, why should we care about anyone’s sexuality or choices in life? To me and to some countries in Europe, it’s accepted as normal. You still have some that don’t like differences but you have that everywhere. So yeah, this scene was normal and not newsworthy. It’s because of people making it exceptional that makes it not normal. |

We don't isolate minorities for making their progress in society visible. We isolate them by ignoring them. |
I agree with Kiwami's post above me.
This franchise has LGBTQ+ fans, but it has not given them representation. There have been characters who were intended to be gay or those who some have considered as LGBTQ+ in some capacity, but never confirmed to be outright. 2017 Trini is important, but she wasn't shown with anyone in the same manner as Izzy, just given a line or two. Also, 2017 Trini didn't appear in the show, which has always been the most important element (no offense to the BOOM! continuity intended, especially since they also have an LGBTQ+ Ranger couple)! This also isn't anything which should give someone offense, either. They don't have Izzy say outright that she is LGBTQ+, it's just obvious from context, and nobody is looking at the couple with hate in their eyes. That's why this is important! Little moments which showcase a franchise that is willing to move forward and treat what should be considered normal as normal! One day they'll show more overt elements, and those of us who support this move will praise those moments as well. Izzy has broken new ground, and that's worth saying something, even if it is just a little moment. A user a page or two ago said that kids don't want "progressive politics", but I can't agree with this! Despite the criticisms this franchise has had to endure, I believe that many kids are aware that masquerading as a Ranger for Halloween won't necessarily make them a monster-fighting Ranger in real life, but I also believe in the momentary potential that seeing a person expressing love to another person without condemnation could give them renewed hope for this world as that is something real people can experience in real life! Is a small moment of representation "progressive politics" in the mind of a kid as it is in the mind of some misguided adults, or is it just an example of doing the right thing for once? |

... It's hand holding, one of the most basic ways of showing and establishing affection without going too explicit. A show of affection that's been used multiple times in past PR seasons when there's a romance, just that this time it's with a same gender couple instead.
Like I feel like this is the sort of reaction you'd have to seeing kid show characters straight out FRENCHING another person. Just SLOBBERING over each other. Like I'd at least understand that. Hell, I'd be upset if they did it with a hetero couple because that's just too much for a kid's show. But this is just hand holding, why can't LGBT+ people at least have that? Again, I'm all for not wanting cheap tokenism that's done distastefully, but this is like, one of the most cookiecutter ways to show affection in a kid's show, just now they're the same gender. |

Fans: We want more representation and mature instances and themes in our kids show. Other fans: Wait, not like that. Again, and this bears repeating. Having LGTBQ representation in Power Rangers is not an agenda, it's not political. It doesn't matter what you think about it, because the people in charge signed off on it after nearly 30 years. In addition, kids who watch Power Rangers are starting to feel a certain way about others. That's what a "crush" is. It doesn't necessarily mean it's sexual in nature. And, Power Rangers has its adult LGBTQ fans and just people who aren't gay in the least and are happy to see representation. So, maybe y'all can stop making it political and let us have this moment. |

I'm trying to find the words to voice the frustration I have towards people who are trying to say that people like me showing up in media is a 'political stance', but it fails me for the moment. It's just... insulting to even suggest that. On the most basic level.

And don't suddenly change your tune by saying you agree with my point to dismiss the fact that you attempted to insult me three times already. If you have a problem with me otherwise, I suggest you add me to a block list. Beyond today, you weren't even on my radar and certainly not memorable enough to concern myself with. |
Everyone, may I remind you all of site rule 3
3. No Discussion On Politics, Religion or Abortion This includes signatures, user titles and avatars. The purpose of this thread is to highlight a momentous occasion for PR fans of all ages within the LGBT community, not to discuss one’s dislike of the relationship due to political beliefs. This is a fair warning to all. Also Sengal and MnemonicSyntax. I don’t know what history you two have but please keep it to DMs. No need to fight in here and start something. |
It's nice to see LGBTQ stuff in a kids show even though it's normally a throw away line or a small supporting character. You never see an major LGBTQ stuff for kids outside of Steven Universe (I could be wrong. I don't watch many shows for kids).

Then this scene comes along, they see it and ask "Are these girls in love?", then the parent says "Yes", then the kid again asks "Can two girls be in love too?" and mommy or daddy say "Sure" and... that's it. There doesn't need to be drama attached, a child will ask questions and an adult answers them. It is always the adult in this situation that creates the issues here, not the child. The child is willing to learn and accept. But when a parent is like "No this is wrong" or screams at the TV or franticly acts like something’s wrong, that's then the kid gets the impression that something is amiss. And even if the household is accepting, the problems arise when the child that already had its questions answered is confronted with other kids who have been drilled to see two girls in love as something bad, or other adults who march through the streets shunning gay people. Waiting until they are teens is saying that this kind of stuff is somehow more complicated or challenging for children to see and understand when it really isn't. They already know a man and a woman that hold hands like each other; they are ready to expand that knowledge to the point that two men or two women can do the same. |
Wish this forum had a like button, dang.

If it's okay to show Calvin and Haley or Jen and Wes hold hands or discuss their feelings, it's okay for Izzy to hold this girls hand. Full stop.
Frankly I think it's absurd PR is so against couples in the series to share a kiss. |

I find it stupid that people get angry over having LGBTQ stuff in a kids show or movie, but having straight people being in love is totally okay.
