I loved Gaoranger...I didn't feel like it got really boring at all.
I'm watching Changeman now. I'm 8 episodes in, and I instantly recognized the fact that the score was written by the same composer who did Liveman haha. I'm glad this show's completely subbed now (one way or another). |

I am on ep 27 of Gekiranger and whoever recommended it sure wasn't kidding. I can't believe I'm getting ready to say this out loud but I may prefer Gekiranger over Shinkenger, Blasphemy I know but damn! Gekiranger has been consistently awesome from the get go. ALL go NO slow!
|
I felt like that at first but yeah, I thought Gekiranger was better than Shinkenger too.
|
I just watched episode 5 of Choujin Sentai Jetman. Even though Kaori is such an airhead, the chemistry between the cast members works perfectly. And Gai Yuki is a total badass.

No, seriously though, yes, they are raw because they are from my Region 2 DVDs. I import the DVDs from Japan becase as great as it is to download them, some series I love enough to give my money to the legitimate releases. I have all of Zyu, Dai, Kaku, Car, Ginga, GoGoV, Time, Gao, Aba, and Magi, along with a few volumes to Oh, Flash, and then the BDs that are out so far of Gokaiger and of course the BD of the movie set. Same goes with several Kamen Rider series and the live action Sailor Moon, plus Garo. Quote:

Back on topic, I'm about halfway through Liveman. I'm still really enjoying the heroes and villains, but its lost a little steam for me since the space geniuses turned up. I'm expecting it to pick up again in a few episodes when the other 2 members are introduced. Oh, and this series has the most tacked-on mecha fights I've ever seen in a Sentai show. I really like LiveRobo but wow are they dull. |
Yeah, the last few episodes before Green and Black show up are kind of bland. The new rangers seem great at first, but the last 10 episodes feel hindered by their presence. Nevertheless, Liveman is my favorite series out of the 80s, but that is only because I have not seen all of Flashman or Changeman yet, and unless I find it to be really bad (Dynaman, Goseiger, Go-Onger), I try to watch every series from start to finish. Anyway, one of the other things that helps Liveman is my favorite Sentai actor is in it (Hirose, who played Jin in DaiRanger and is Dr Kempu in Liveman).

I gave up on Changeman after four episodes due to the main characters being flat and the pacing being very horrid.
|
Still watching (and seriously digging) Boukenger.
I do want to solicit opinions on what to watch after that, though. I just watched Jungle Fury so I am not sure if Gekiranger is the right choice. I was thinking maybe Go-onger, Magiranger, Goseiger... something modern. Anyone have any thoughts? |
Id recommend Goseiger even though most others wouldn't :lol

Personally I'd go Magiranger, my second favourite after Gokaiger.
Go-onger is a fun series though, and while I didn't think Goseiger was great (more like wasted potential) there is good in there and quite a few people here enjoy it. Dekaranger is another one I'd highly recommend. |
Gekiranger is definitely on my "to watch" list, but since I literally finished watching Jungle Fury like a week ago, my thought was to finish Boukenger and then another series before watching it. Sort of like a buffer, or a palate cleanser if you will. I very much enjoyed Jungle Fury and have a feeling I will enjoy Gekiranger as well.
Go-onger looks neat to me because of the mix of vehicles and animals in the meka. And I like robotic bad guys. I have seen the first few eps of Magiranger and dug that. So everyone's suggestions are greatly appreciated. Of course I am also watching Gokaiger and shortly I imagine we will all be walking Gobuster... |

GekiRanger is a must watch, as is AbaRanger and Gokaiger. You can skip everything else from 2001-on, but those three must be watched. Oh, and you definitely do not want to watch Go-Onger, Goseiger, or DekaRanger. If you want to see what is wrong with Sentai these days, then you watch them. If you are a completist, watch then. If you want to be bored out of your mind, watch them. If you want to be annoyed with full retard comedy, watch them. If you like Seth Rogen movies, watch them. If you want to see children playing the entire ranger cast, watch Goseiger. If you want to see Sentai series with an actual plot, gimmicks that work within the story, and incredible battle scenes with unexpected plot twists, watch Geki, Aba, and Gokaiger. I pray that Gobuster is good, I really do. But given Toei's track record, it is going to teeter between total suckage and average. |
Gokaiger 46-49
Dairanger 46 |

FWIW, I am watching Gokaiger already. I have a while to go to get caught up on that as well as finish Boukenger so I have time to decide. By that time it might have been long enough of a break to watch Gekiranger. ;) |
Having finished up Metalder and catching up on Transformers Prime, I've decided to start trying out some of the older Sentai shows next. I watched a video review of the MMPR season 2 Zords a couple weeks back and that inspired me to start with DaiRanger. I've had a spotty record of trying to watch Sentai (prior to Gokaiger), but I've heard a lot of good things about this one and am determined to give it a good, concerted effort. I'm hoping to pull it off, but we'll have to see if I can stick with it (TVN's subs aren't helping, as they're hands down the kisama-tachiest subs I've ever seen from them). Only two episodes in so far, but I'm kinda digging it so far, although I do find the characters pretty flat so far.

As for their translation, it is because Nihon wants to make it as accurate as possible. Yeah, it is distracting at times, but that is just how DaiRanger is. I watched the show raw probably about 17 times in the last 9 years, so it is nice getting to finally see it subbed, as it is nice to know everything that is happening (although, after the fourth or fifth viewing, I really do not need subs to tell me what is going on, but it is nice. Although, I will go back to the raws after this). |
Can we keep fansub politics and arguments out of all these threads. Please mods? We don't need bashing, calling out, or talk of how one group is better or worse than another on any side do we?

I'm up to episode four now and really starting to get into the show. Daigo is already shaping up to be my favorite character. Also, puppets with guns, you guys. Puppets with guns. |

Switchblade, Daigo is an awesome character who will get a great subplot storyline going for him in episode 9. |

Just finished Ep. 46 of Shinkenger, man, this series is awesome, I love all the character developments and their inner struggle.
|
Just finished Liveman. One of the best character-building Sentai series I've seen, but falls short because the latter two Livemen (Black Bison and Green Sai) seem rather superfluous to the plot when the other three are developled so nicely. The same goes for Guildos and Butchy of Volt, although I can let this slide since it makes more sense toward the end of the series. Bias is a great villain, shrouded in mystery even until the very end.
The mecha fights were another aspect that I felt let the show down a bit, as they felt even more bland than usual (this could just be because I'm not used to pre-2000 Sentai though). I really liked LiveRobo, but LiveBoxer was just a walking box :lol SuperLiveRobo was pretty cool though. All in all an almost perfect series, but for the first time I found myself watching it more for the civilian sequences rather than the action. |
Been watching on Dairanger some more. It's growingt on me, but the first few episodes were ruff. I'm through episode 14 now and I'm finding the fights without the rangers in it to be the best. Rin's "grandpa" is awesome (for sooooo many reasons). Hope he appears again.
So far I like Daigo best. He's the only ranger that seems to give a damn (as seen in episode 3). I keep asking why Shouji is a ranger. Red, Yellow, and Rin are all kind of bland for me so far(I can't even remember two of their names at the moment), though Red has some decent plot in 7&8. Overall, I'm liking it. Side note, I'd buy Dairanger SHFs. Maybe not all of them, but I like their designs and weapons enough that I think they would make for good toys. |

You just past two of my favorite episodes though. Father Magnet and the drunken tofu. |

The DaiRangers are the only SHF I would put my money towards. However, KirinRanger needs to be able have additional hands for the drunken style.
|
Currently working through Jetman, Dairanger, Dekaranger, and Boukenger.
I keep getting sidetracked, obviously. |

Because TV-N is down and I can't get more Dairanger at the moment, I tried out Liveman. Watched the first 2 episodes so far and it's...something... It goes straight into the epic stuff like I'm already suppose to care what's going on and give a damn who these people are.
Heck, there's two "major" deaths in the first episode, but those characters got less than a minute before dying. Reminds me of Transformers Prime (that's not a complement). 2nd episode fairs better in letting a character shine before they died, but still. I also don't even know anyone's name. I don't know if they were even mentioned. The theme is great, but it feels rushed into. I'm going to give it a few more episodes. Sometimes it just takes a little bit for the show to click. Live Robo is pretty cool and I like Land Lion, that's for sure. PS (might be 2nd episode spoiler) How did that pregnant women in episode 2 delivery her own baby, cut the umbilical cord, clean the baby, escape from under that rubble safe and sound, AND teleport from the rubble to the lighthouse (That last one is bad editing). All while the Rangers are fighting a short mecha battle to. I think she should be a ranger. She clearly has beyond the physical abilities to be one. |

Decided to not watch anymore Liveman. I might try again after Dairanger. For now, I really want to finish Dairanger. A friend had told me HON & H-S did a complete sub of Dairanger so I gave them a shot (besides, I was wanting a second opinion anyways).
So yeah, I just finished Dairanger 26. I'm glad the show finally remembered there was other characters than Kou. Not that those episodes were bad, just that I feel there's been uneven character focus throughout. Maybe I've just been spoiled by Gokaiger's fairly even pace. Enjoying it regardless. Good action (including surprisingly good demorphed action), good characters (except Kazu. Hope that changes), and decent plot (even if it borrows Star Wars stuff now a then). Fun stuff. PS Is it bad that I was happy to see Akomaru die? Never been so happy to see a kid die and that kind of disturbs me a little. |
