How and why did you choose your Username?
Pretty simple. And this is a universal question. Den-O, OOO, Sentai and I may have rather obvious reasons to picking ours, but different core reasons why.
I love the Lavender Gladiator Condor that is the Gosei Wonder, but I also have rather nostalgic love of the word "wonder" itself. This, interestingly enough, most likely stems from the Burning Bush scene from "The Prince of Egypt" and God's inflection on the word "wonders" within that scene. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z-k8GzwK6n4 Also, this bumper from some Bible Story VHS tapes I watched as a tyke. http://images.wikia.com/logopedia/im...ony_Wonder.jpg And oddly enough, Goseiger has an Angel motif. So how about you guys? What your story? |
I chose mine because I like the Yakuza games…only months after joining this site that I discovered there's a Kaiju with this name…so it kinda works out LOL
|
Well see, OOO is my favorite series. Not wanting to keep my old TFW identity of dyingwill3rd having given up Transformers collecting, I came to Tokunation due to growing up in Japan and loving Super Sentai and Kamen Rider. Conflicted on what to name myself, I decided on choosing the name due to loving the series and the fact that I was gonna receive an OOO Driver a couple days after the site first opened.
That, and I think it was easy to remember :lol. Sometime after, another user joined and called himself "OOO" but he hasn't been as active as I am. So I'm kinda glad I got the username I wanted, cause all my buddies on here know me now ^_^ |
It stemmed from a forum I used to frequent a decade ago called Game Talk.
Matrix stemming from the obvious Transformers artifact, and I honestly have no idea why I tacked "Beast" on the end beyond all my other "Matrix[Noun]" usernames I had tried to use were already taken. I usually use it for most sites I register at, but over the years, I guess some others just found it awesome and took it for themselves, so I've used the deviations "Matrixtime" or "Princess Matrix" in such situations, but that's pretty much where my username came from. I'm carrying over my TFW name. I don't really know where the name came from to begin with; the word feels kinda rhythmic, I guess. I go by Junior Octopus practically everywhere else though. That name is the bomb.

way back on tfans I of course wanted to be Starscream...but that name was taken .2 seconds after that site went live...but I remembered that the Seekers would also just call him 'Screamer...and so...now we have Starscreamer

I forget when I began using mine, but I've always been a Pokémon fan. I remember in the older games, the option to switch pokémon read "pkmn" all diagonal and stuff. Among me and my friends, I was always the most knowledgeable about Pokémon, so I took a liking to "Pokémon Master" I remembered the abbreviation and just decided to take the vowels out of Master also. Now on some sites, people have taken it already, in which case I add 90(year of birth) to the end.

Mine comes from childhood. Friends use to make up super heroes and we tended to stick with certain names for our characters. I can't remember where I got "Blade" from, but I do remember adding "Raider" after watching an episode of Spider-Man where Blade appeared because I wasn't about to mistaken for a ****ing vampire. I totally hated vampires before it was cool! :p Why Raider? It had a nice ring to it.
...of course, years later I realized it's easy to mistake "Blade Raider" for "Blade Runner." Oh well, at least I have nothing to do with vampires! |

I used 'theblueman' as a name on IRC for years, based on a character I created as a kid. Then The Blue Man Group became huge and everybody asked if it was based on that and I got sick of it. So I just started substituting different words for 'man', like 'bluecifer', 'bluemanchurian', and 'bluesparrow'(I like the word 'sparrow'). Then I had to sign up on a message board and used the latter, then carried it over to other boards I signed up for. Cut to several years later and Pirates of the Caribbean comes out and people ask me if it's named after Jack Sparrow. I stopped caring by that point though.
Most boringest origin story ever. |

Blade's comment reminded me of the normal name I go with when playing a game with only a few slots for a name.
"Snaks" :p I honestly have no idea where that came from, but it stuck. |
I'm Matrix Soul over at TFW2005, so here the Matrix got changed to Sentai because it's a Toku site, and soul in Japanese is Tamashii, hence Sentai Tamashii :D

I went over this on Rangerboard recently, but I'll explain again...
Back in 99 when I started playing online first person shooters on my own without an rl friend, I got into Team Fortress Classic, a mod for Half-life. One day, I was playing on a random server, and came to find out that it was owned by a group of people in a clan called Joe Satriani that competed in leagues online seriously. I took to it, and tried out. They let me in, and I found out everyone's name was after a Joe Satriani song, a badass guitar player. The leader was [JS]Ice9 after the song Ice 9. I took [JS]TheSnake after that song. After a bit, I listened to more of his songs and became a fan of the song Raspberry Jam Delta-V instead. I talked to the leader and changed my name to [JS]RaspberryJamDelta-V. He nicknamed me Raz because of the long name. A girl in the clan called me Jam. Another guy called me Rasp all the time. I just kept the name raz after the clan fell apart, and have kept it for the last 14 years online. Most of the time, it's taken and I have to use raz1337 or on Twitter razzle1337 since people have called me razzle in the past. Working with that clan taught me a lot about teamwork, friendship, sportsmanship, fun, and just dealing with people in general. I like looking back on those memories a lot. |

I was thinking of making this thread a few days back, but I figured it wasn't a good idea or my place to do so.
Anyway, my name came from the Matrix. Sorta. When the Matrix first came out and then the games thereafter, we all picked names based on characters. Everyone picked a name already taken and as a fan of originality, I chose Cache (because I have great memory) and Syntax (the definition of being a specific structure of the subject at hand) and when combined, it was CacheSyntax or, the specific structure of short term memory. Unfortunately, not long after that my email was hacked with that user name, so I gave up on it and switched to MnemonicSyntax instead, being the specific structure of memory triggers, because again I apparently have an excellent memory. I'm also that name everywhere. Email, forums, Steam, the Facebook, etc. etc. Quote:

Some broad wrote it on my birth certificate. It just sort of stuck since then.

Here's a breakdown of my name:
Mega- Taken from Megatron. Just snipped off the "tron". Bat- Taken from Batman. Just snipped off the "man". Timus- Taken from Optimus. Just snipped off the "Op". I basically came up with my username because I wanted something that showed that I wasn't just a Transformers fan, that I was also a Comics fan. Not to mention it rolls off the tongue and is easy to pronounce. |
I'm takara_destron over on tfw2005, but I didn't really fancy keeping that for a toku site. So I decided to take my name after my favourite ranger from my favourite PR series. And I chose V over 5 because roman numerals are cool :p
Helps I had the pick of the litter too since I was one of the first guys over here :lol |
I kind of wish mine a better story. But Sentai came from the fact I couldn't think of anything better, and didn't know Gosei Knight existed at the time.

Mine: because SidewipePrime is my username on TFW2005...why SideswipePrime? Because Sideswipe is my favorite Transformer, and I added Prime to the end of it, because I'm terrible when it comes to naming things.

I was watching Fourze at the time I was lurking here before I decided to join. Meteor isn't even my favorite Rider! But I already saw that the board had an OOO & Den-O already. So I opted for my 3rd favorite. I was a forum virgin before I signed up here , so I didn't have a name from anywhere else to go off of. And apparently I have a terrible imagination... In retrospect I wish I would have chosen something different , but its cool.

About a decade or more ago, I was called HaruGlory89 on my first forum due to my obsession with Groove Adventure Rave (Rave Master).
I was rather anime-obsessed at that time, but my interest in Rave waned a bit, so I opted for a more general name and settled with AnimeGamer89. Then, I realized I didn't game as much anymore so I went with the even more generic AnimeGuy89. Finally, when even my interest in anime waned, I thought of the most generic thing I could think of while still keeping a geeky identity, and that was ComicGuy89. Contrary to popular belief, I did not name myself after Comic Book Guy of the Simpsons. :) Quote:

I remember making up Night-Skyward for a pokemon Forum I used to frequent, no idea where it came from though. Was just a lightbulb moment I think, that and Night sounded pretty badass as a first name =p
It stuck with me when I joined TFW, and moving over to here I figured I'd give it more of a toku flair. RiderNight didn't sound too good (its also too close to Knight Rider) so I went for RiderSkyward =] |
My username was issued to me when I was a freshman at Clemson University in 1998 and has been my main handle online since. It is made up of my first initial and the first few letters of my last name.
I also like that it sounds like a South American dictator. El Jacone! |
I'm not clever with usernames so I just named myself after a car.
|
Well, mine's not that interesting. I made a fanfic. Now I'm the rider in the fanfic. Woohoo.... :lol
|
I was watching Dairanger at the time I joined the forum and Dairenoh happens to be my favourite sentai Mecha.
Do I win most boring reason for a user name now?. |

I chose my Username mainly because I couldn't find any other Riders available, and had a deep seeded want of trolling OOO.

Switchblade was a character I'd thought up for some fantasy novels I wanted to write back when I was in high school. I eventually decided that wasn't really a genre I wanted to work in, but it was still my plan back in 2001 when I created my first message board account on the now-abandoned Final Fantasy website ffonline. I've kept the name ever since, even if I think it's kind of silly now.
|
I first came up with mine about 5+ years ago when I signed up for a figurerealm account. I don't have a clue as to why I picked 'conundrum'. I've proceeded to use it here, on tfw, and rangerboard.
I've come to dislike it and would like to come up with something more creative but think I've missed the boat on changing it. |
