Godzilla vs. Kong Discussion
Godzilla vs. Kong is now out in theathers and HBO Max. What did you guys think of the movie. I had a lot of fun watching it in IMAX and it was nice to watch a Monsterverse movie with fight scenes that are not in the rain or during nighttime.

I enjoyed it. I got the level of fights I wanted so that was good. It had a couple of flaws, mainly on the human side of things, but I'm glad I saw it.

The Hong Kong battle was gorgeous and I absolutely loved it. It's pure spectacle from beginning to end, but does it well, and a complete blast to watch.

I have some minor issues with the story that annoyed me. Bernie Hayes and the two other teenagers can sneak inside the secret facility at the Apex base so easily. Where are the security guards if people can easily walk into an elevator right next to them? Stuff like this in movies always make my head hurt. I know it is fictional, but I have a hard time believing that they would want to keep it so secret and yet have people easily find it.

Okay, after going through my options, the theater trip didn't work out, so my family decided to get HBO Max and stream it. Not that I had a problem with it or anything, but I don't think that would have affected my opinion of the movie.
Well... It looks like I'm going to be the wet sandwich in this discussion thread... Okay, look, I love the Monsterverse, I really do, and they've been doing a great job. But Godzilla vs. Kong... is kind of a letdown. I know what you're thinking: "How can a Godzilla nutcase like you have something against a Godzilla movie?" Well I'll tell you. To be fair, I didn't hate the movie, nor do I have anything against the Monsterverse people, but this movie was a little bit of a disappointment, of course I've seen worse. So let me get this out of the way, without spoiling. I don't like how the daughter from King of the Monsters has grown, like really don't like, I would have rather had the undercover podcast guy be the main character (I know there was the sign-language duo, who were, admittedly, the best characters). I think the technology level went a little too far, making it feel a little over-the-top. Now of course, I did enjoy the fights, despite how rather short they were, and I got those little references to the '62 film, well played. And the CG looked great, meaning delaying the movie allowed them to polish it into what we see here. There are other problems, mostly from the human side, that I won't spoil to anyone who hasn't seen it yet (and because I don't know how to filter spoilers in these threads) so I'll just leave this off with a little ranking for each Monsterverse film: 1st-Godzilla King of the Monsters (2019) 2nd-Godzilla (2014) 3rd-Kong: Skull Island (2017) 4th-Godzilla vs. Kong (2021) At least Godzilla: Singular Point has been great so far. But I admit, even if the Monsterverse ends after all, I will be fine with that, regardless if I liked GvK or not. But if it continues, I'll still hope to look forward and enjoy what they have for us in the future, since I've really enjoyed their previous movies. |
