Kamen Rider Saber Episode 34- "The Immortal Swordsman Awakens!" Discussion
Master Logos uses the Book of Ruin to bring forth a warrior to stop the Kamen Riders.
Watch SuperHeroTime Via Livestream!! Check out episodes as they air on Saturday by heading over to Taima TV. They play other miscellaneous programs up until the live broadcast starts. Live Streams of the Superhero Time block now start at 8PM EST on Saturdays! |
Taniguchi really going hammy on his performance once again. Really cool. Neat to see a scene of Yuri actually wielding both swords, too, tho it's weird that Saikou is bandaged.
Yuri's not dead, 'course not. He's just locked inside the sword for now. |
I hope Yuri's freed soon.
Looks like with Luna now escaped.... I just hope she doesn't sucked into that vortex again as the sacrifice. It's only a matter of time until Kamen Rider Solomon shows up! And who knows what bad things will come. Logos! You've gone too far!!!! Don't worry about the love story thing in my mind, I'm getting over it. |
I think Saikou is bandaged mostly because they're using the prop for Saikou and don't want to spend money on an "OG Version" since it's clear that the Saikou we see nowadays is a modified version of the original.
But hey, interesting episode... but also... wow we're just going straight into world ending territory next week huh? |
durandel just instant disappear during fight after break. they keep reusing the factory storage set in studio and under bridge scene for fughting. suddenly, saikou can get faded with a single finisher. caliber saber blade falchion yuri are all in same level now if story dictate it so. They could definitely do an flashback episode on Yuri and it will bang sincrs it more interesting dealing himself away , so 11 swords can unites together. Master logo just whip out his game of thrones out in the sun . Sophia is probably the hack he’s planning to replaced Luna with his to cheat his way , but will def backfire next week.

Luna's back. Not quite sure what's next for her aside from next week's mcguffin for Touma to save again.
Again, Bacht is nice to watch here! Taniguchi did good on his performance, but his laughing and the motions of the didn't quite match well. Some neat backstory between him, Yuri and another dude, though it seems that both Bacht and Yuri used normal swords while the dude had Saikou. It was only the aftermath of the whole ordeal that Yuri had both swords. A Falchion SHF would be neat. Reika continues to try her best to make onii-sama proud, probably to no effect next week, that means her redemption is in the corner somewhere. I have a small issue, though, particularly with Kento. During episode 26, he was portrayed more as a tragic hero, someone who feels hopeless in his situation, forced to do what the sword tells him to. More recent episodes now has Kento seem more like a... jerk? Like, it's less "Sorry, bro, I have to do this." and more "NOoOoO! The future said it like this!". But it's small issue, I guess. Still like him as Calibur and I'll be truly satisfied when he finally joins Touma again. Edit: Tho, I guess it is in Kento's character to... do this. Not exactly the brightest swordsman despite his element, lol. Next week, the return of Emotional Dragon! Which... Means it's stronger than Elemental? Oh well. Also, does this count as an extra super form now instead of a special movie form? Whatever, it's a cool suit. The ritual that Kento saw, and Logos sitting on his throne that's somehow propped outside, what a boss. The things I'm expecting to happen here next week are the unsealing of Gekido, Suzune, and Saikou, Bacht ded again, and the ritual possibly giving birth to the sword instead of world destruction. Edit again: You know the thingy with Touma's eyes? Seems like it's some sort of Flower Of Life. Accordingo this anon on /m/. |

Oh, it was just a normal sword prop as well? Dang.

I have yet to watch RealTime and Book of Ruin, so this is my first experience with Bacht and maybe that's a good thing, since I get to learn his tragic backstory before seeing whatever he's going to do in that movie. I think there's a parallel between Touma and Kento in the present and Yuri and Bacht in the distant past. Kento and Bacht are both people who have fallen in to terrible despair. Bacht, who Yuri couldn't help, might represent the regret that Touma will feel if he can't save Kento from himself. Yuri doesn't want the current generation of swordsmen to have to endure that.
But now Yuri has been swordnapped! That seems to be only thing Reika is actually good at. As one of the first two Seiken Swords to be created, Saikou's loss is going to be a serious problem for Team Saber. It's a good thing that Touma and Rintarou learned how use their Seiken Swords to separate people from Megids, but the number of people who fight back against the corrupt Master Logos is dwindling. |
Have I mentioned how much I freakin' love Yuri lately? Yeah, not exactly fresh news, I know, but this episode put such a spotlight on him that I can't help but say it all again. There's just such a mystique to the guy, isn't there? A lot of that is in the weird nuances Tomohiro Ichikawa provides to the role, but just as much of it is in this sense that there's always something more going on with him than we know. As though there's this grand tapestry of a life all those years ago, filled with every bit as much adventure and drama as Touma goes through, and we only occasionally get these small glimpses into it, because that was his story, which is in the past, and the show is called Kamen Rider Saber. I think the casual way it was established he used to wield both Saikou and Kurayami pretty much epitomizes this. Yuri was like this chosen champion who brought together the powers of light and dark, which is as about as main protagonist-y as you can get, and yet this fact hasn't even warranted a spoken mention so far.
So like, yeah, you can absolutely just say out of nowhere he used to be friends with that crazy dude from the short film who was also really old and had a foreign name, and I'll believe that without hesitation. You can totally draw a parallel between his failure to stop that friend from going down a dark path and the situation with Kento. You can most assuredly suggest Yuri's desire to support Touma's eternal optimism is his way of atoning for his own disillusionment that led him to step away from humanity for so long. It all works! It's all totally supported by all the great narrative beats Yuri has had on the show up to this point! This is a really good episode for him, which is exactly what you'd hope for when it ends with him being put on the bench for the time being. They're laying it on a little thick that you should think Yuri is cool to make it even more of a bummer that he's gone, but like, it is kind of a bummer! And I mean that in a good way, of course, because this episode was anything but a bummer. I'm very happy with the way Falchion was worked into the show. It's in that sweet spot where it's rewarding if you've seen the movie, but you also definitely don't need to worry about knowing the plot from the movie, because the plot of the movie... was nothing! Pretty fitting for Bacht, huh? So little time is needed to recap what we know about Falchion that he might as well just be some new character, and I honestly think that's sort of genius. I mean, he had a personality in that first appearance. He left an impression, and a lot of his dialogue nicely implied that something drove him to his current madness; it's just that since he was in a deliberately unsubstantial short film and not a big summer movie, he didn't get that backstory there. Falchion is a cool character with a pretty killer Rider design, so even though we were told well in advance something like this would happen eventually, it's pretty exciting seeing it come to fruition. (Waiting for the home video release was also much appreciated!) I did say this show was called Kamen Rider Saber, though, huh? Touma is hardly the sole focus of this episode, but there are still some neat things going on with him. It's nice to see him checking another Rider off the list of his friends he's had an epic friendly sword duel with, a list that I think is down to just Ren and Kento now? Unless he wants to like, throw Mei a sword too or something, anyway. Regardless, that's a specific sub-genre of Saber scene that I'm always happy to see because of how unique it is to this being a Rider show revolving around swordsmen. I'd complain about the lack of Brave Dragon in that scene, but considering the teases the show keeps dropping, there might end up being a very specific point to Touma relying on his most powerful form so much lately. Like, I know for a fact this show can do better about getting tons of suits in there if it wants to, so I'm hoping there's something to this beyond shilling the most current toys. Not that I want to give the impression I don't love Elemental or want to see it, but, you know, it's one of many Saber suits I love. It sure would cool to see more of them than we have been lately... ~entirely hypothetically~, of course. |

https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachmen...448/image0.png This thing we saw a while back, but it could be related to a flower of life too (though I’m uncertain what that is exactly) Edit: Image isn’t loading let me fix that. |
the show is just offing all the heroic riders except the trio at this point. xD
|
It's funny how many factions there is in the show right now. There's Touma and co. Master Logos and his followers, Storious, Kento, Ren and Dezast and now Bacht. It's like a free for all.

Well now we have some context as to who the heck is Bacht, and it was pretty solid to be honest. Also, I was wrong about the similarities between Elemental and Falchion, now that I see them together, so I was wrong, but he still resembles Saber's base form.
Yuuri has always been one of the best characters here, like his curiosity towards the modern day, I always found him endearing. And now we have some backstory on him, and correct me if I'm wrong, but is this the first time he actually loses? Because I remember he's had draws or the enemy just flees, it's been a while. Either way, his defeat here felt impactful, like you've just lost your mentor, or the one guy who knew what was going on, or something, and I liked that, though I will miss him until his inevitable return. Luna's back sooner than I thought, I was expecting her to be closer to the endgame, but it looks like she'll be playing her role next week. Of course, there's also Sophia, who appears to play a bigger role in opening the omnipotent tome, and Kento's future drawing closer, and whatever Storius is doing. And hey, Ren's back in action next week, too, wonder how thing's with Legiel will fare. |
