i hated double, too many comic relief characters, not enough storylines that go past the two ep. thing.

ya i think i need to rewatch decade, i think i was just really happy with average stories because i had just gotten off kabuto, that writing team made me go slightly insane
|
and there were a lot of overarcing stories (am i using that word right?) in decade. narutaki, kuuga, kuugas girl, and the last two episodes
|
Aw, shoot, I missed all the Kiva discussion. Suffice it to say, it's got my favorite designs, and music, and it's probably my favorite series. though I think I may have actually enjoyed Den-O a teensy bit more.
I'm watching through Kabuto right now, and I'm more on the side of Tendou being a troll, rather than an asshole. But I'm also only 10 or so episodes in, so maybe he gets worse. Like him well enough so far. |
ya den-o and kiva have always teeter tottered in my mind which is better. and about tendou..... ughhhhhh. thats all i can say about the character.
(p.s. my name is also ryan :) ) |

Narutaki didn't have a story. He was never explained. Last two episodes? Double's last 10. I'm not a part of the bandwagon that blows Double every time it's brought up. But from a story telling and characterization standpoint, it's just a superior series. Decade isn't a bad series, either. It's just not as good as it initially was, IMO, now that I have prior series knowledge. |

But Kiva and Den-O aren't far behind it. Tendou is a special kind of Rider. He's the titular character, but he's not the main character. It's obviously Kagami that's the character we're supposed to be following. |
well i dont blow decade either, its just i have to defend it cause well no one else does (except for the user named decade), but u gotta admit u could quite literally mix around the 2 ep. chunks in any order and would connect in story just as much

It's not an issue unique to Double. |
mmmmmmm maybe not kiva. wat i want to see is a series everyone can agree on as good, i say its ooo, wat do u guys think
|
Yeah, OOO is very enjoyable. I'm not really good at ranking the Kamen Rider series I've seen, I've really liked all of them, for different enough reasons that I can't compare them very well.
I rank Kiva and Den-O at the top, followed by Double/OOO, followed by Kuuga. Not sure where Ryuki, Kabuto and Fourze will end up on the list, not being finished with them, but right now I'd say Ryuki is up there with Double/OO and Kabuto with Kuuga. I really need to catch up on Fourze, so far behind. |
all im thinking is... how's wizard gonna end up. with all the kiddyfying ive been seeing, i hope they back to the seriousness of kiva, or at least the equal balance of ooo
|
OOO is definitely a great series. It's easily my favorite ^^
As for Wizard, I'm not sure. I wouldn't call anything that's been going on "Kiddyfying" just because a series is goofy nor would I call a goofy series a kiddy series. For example, Den-O is wedged between Kabuto and Kiva, two relatively serious series, and, while eccentric, neither OOO or Double could fall into a "Kiddy" series. Fourze isn't a serious show. But there really hasn't been much of a "Kiddy" trend, seeing as Den-O is really the only show to match Fourze in tone of late (And that was 4 years ago). |
u got to admit, the seriousness has been dumbed down. ooo is my favorite series too ^v^ then its decade, kiva and den-o for third. then double is second to last and kabuto is last
|
But you're acting as if there's been a trend of the seriousness of the series declining, which isn't true. Fourze isn't a series series, but Double and OOO were. Until Wizard airs, this is just a one time thing.

All the series takes a little break, especially if it's just after (Or sometimes, before) the game changer episodes of the late 30's/early 40's.

Really, Kuuga vs W is a strange thing. I started Kuuga soon after finishing W and it's almost a completely different kind of show, which is what I needed at the time. W was so good that current Riders just aren't as good when I tried watching them. They were only made 10 years apart, and yet Kuuga feels like it was aimed at an older audience than W. I'm not sure if it was a time slot change or just how much Japanese censorship has changed in 10 years, but they are two very different beasts. I'm use to seeing this from the Showa era (which I've seen little of), but not in the Heisei era. PS For the record, I currently rank W as #1 and Kuuga as #2 on my best list. W only wins by a hair and I haven't finished Kuuga just yet. |
I know exactly what you're talking about Blade Raider. Den-O is a series that I hold near and dear. Seeing it, and then having watched Ryuki this month there is a huge difference. There's only a 5 year difference between the two. Ryuki is sad, depressing, dark, adult, and powerful. Den-O is comedic, fun, and a bit more kid oriented. It's crazy to think that those 2 shows are even closer together than Kuuga and W and the difference feels more staggering to me.
|
To me it has always seemed as if the tone of rider shows became less dark and a little more kid oriented after kabuto.
|
i know! the only way this can be redeemed is if wizard is a high school teacher and wen a kid fails he says "YOU SHALL NOT PASS!!!!!" (hehe lord of the rings cause he a wizard that has power rings)
|
Just finished rewatching All Riders vs. Daishocker. The rider fights are fun, but its still a terrible film.
Time to round off Decade with the Movie War, which I haven't seen the director's cut version of yet. |
i watched one episode of blade and was alredy so confused i stopped watching, should i try again or is it useless

also, slow start? in one ep. we meet 2 riders, see undead get sealed meet a family and a guy obsessed with milk, a guy with the chalice card hyperventilating, and then garren going rogue. seriously, slow start?
|
"Slow start" doesn't mean literally.
That just means the beginning of the series is just really poor compared to the rest :P <-Doesn't understand sarcasm :lol |
Yeah I'll agree about Blade. I watched the first 8-10 episodes then left it for a LONG time. Glad I picked it back up though. The last bit of the series is so good.
|
I need to watch Blade. I love those designs.
But apparently after the Faiz bait and switch* (Beautiful designs muddied by a horrible series), I've been afraid. *I haven't watched Faiz just because of all the horror stories concerning it :lol |
With Fourze being my introductory Rider and with OOO's and Den-O having roughly the same tone and balance of action / humor as Fourze. I am almost reluctant to try and Heisei show prior to Den-O. The humor has become a huge reason why i fell in love with Kamen Rider.

I have 3 move Den-O movies left to watch and i am going full force into W. Thanks for the suggestion. |

Yeah most everything pre Den-O is dark as hell with substantially less humor. Its there but we dont have anything like 4 monsters running around a train fighting about coffee like Den-O, or Santa-Chan running around all year like in W, or magic hand like Fourze :lol

And i didn't realize my life was missing 4 monsters on a train fighting about coffee until a few months ago , but life feels fuller thanks to them. |

Finished Kuuga. *sigh* Looks like one of the specials had the begining of the final story arc and it's in the only one of specials I can't find. Eitherway episode 47 drops into the middle of the final story and it's very jarring. My thought on the finale itself is disappointment. It's not bad or anything, it just doesn't feel like a high note. The final battle is short and kind of mundane. The epilogue starts an episode and a half before the final battle and then basically repeats it in the final episode (with different characters). I'm not trying to be hard on it, but when the Rider can destory the world with his Rider Kick (Btw, source requested. I never saw anything in the show about that) you kind of expect a finale that ends with bang, but it ends up being a whimper. Anyways, I would still reccommend Kuuga, if only because I think all fans should know the awesome that is Ichijou. As far as Rider characters go, Godai joins my ranks of favorites (and I refuse to call him Yuusuke so no one will think he's that Decade knock off). In general I enjoyed the full cast and found myself caring what they were doing in their subplots. The show is rather good until about the last third of the show, which seems to be a common problem in Kamen Rider. Anyways, I might be taking a break before going into Agito. |
Really? The last 3rd of the series tends to be amazing.
Except in the case of Decade. |

PS I've also been spoiled by Garo, Garo MS, and Gokaiger's epic endings. |
What series have you seen?
